Prescott vs NFL - Intermediate Throws

The Cowboys won't make much of a living sending someone like Cole Beasley on go routes. He's 5'8" with a small catch radius. The further he gets down the field, the smaller a target he becomes. It becomes an even lower percentage pass play with him in the deep route.

I completely agree, Plankton. I've said as much earlier in this thread. If he's to produce on deep plays, he's got to sneak out there, or get the YAC and beat the deep cover.

It's not surprising. Dak was super efficient in college. He had high QBR, td/int, and comp percentage in college. I am not sure if he'll be as good as Tony, but he has the qualities you want in a rookie.

Gotcha... it's such a small sample size at this point that it is pretty much irrelevant. It will be interesting to see where his numbers go as the competition gets stiffer and there is more film on him available for defenses to break down.
I agree 100% with the second part, but I think the numbers at this distance are quite relevant, especially for the throws in the middle of the field.

I will clarify... I meant that the stat line of 1-8 on throws more than 20 yards is irrelevant at this point...

Garrett's offense is predicated on exploiting the intermediate passing game... Romo does not throw deep that often either.

Garrett loves to get chunks of yards, yet avoid the lower percentage deep passing game.

Dak is doing what is being asked of him within this offense. He will get even more effective with experience.

And the league is all about big plays and Dallas hates them.

Don't get me wrong Dooms. I agree with your take. But I also see the risks in a rookie QB (or any QB for that matter) routinely sustaining long drives without any mistakes. The fact that Dak hasn't thrown an INT is incredible. I also think D's crowding the line because they don't fear the deep ball with catch up to us sooner or later. Again, maybe all this is by design and the design is working because Dak is not turning the ball over. But I don't think he can make a living on being a bus driver, especially with our D.
I think it's the other way around, as Dak gets more comfortable in this offense, he will start making defenses pay "big league"

Garrett wants a throw back offense. Dominant OL and ground game, efficient passing attack-- move the chains, chew up the clock. May not be sexy, but it worked like a charm in 2014.

protects the defense too

I think you can still make big plays while doing this. Especially since our ground game commands so much attention.

Sure-- in theory there can be some big plays in this offense. Communism works in theory too...:)

This offense is designed to get chunks of yards in the passing game and grind teams down in the running game. We are executing pretty well overall.

In truth-- Dak should have already had 4-5 other passing TDs had the WR or TE made the catch or finished the natural flow of the play.

Zeke is due for some breakaway runs as well... This offense has plenty of horsepower, we just haven't seen the explosiveness on display.

And yet we are still seeing a high percentage of completion. This offense has not had problems moving the ball heck we have only punted 9 times in 3 games. Dak just needs to continue making his reads and not try to force things. If the deep ball is there then take it but if not then he needs to go to his other reads.
yes dak has moved the ball and usually drives downfield, and only penaltys and drops have stopped the drives.
