Prescott's Drive

I don't have disdain for Risen's or anyone's admiration of Wentz as a prospect. I realize he's an Eagle and we are supposed to hate him, but that doesn't negate the fact that he is a fantastic prospect despite a ho-hum rookie season.

What I don't understand is grasping to an 8-month-old analysis of Dak when his NFL film is ripping apart his scouting report. I feel like for Risen and a select few others, they'd still say Dak is a marginal selection as a fourth-round pick if the draft were re-done today. It makes no sense to me.

I agree that Dak isn't an A-plus prospect in terms of size, arm strength, "pure" accuracy, etc. He's not the workout warrior guy who rises up draft boards because of the zip of his ball while wearing shorts. But he's shown he has MORE than functional NFL talent in all of those respects, to go along with off-the-charts intangibles -- the latter of which Risen seems to agree exist.

I've always been of the belief that I would take the guy with just-good-enough physical skills if he possesses the work ethic, the competitiveness, the leadership, the pocket presence, situational awareness, etc. I think we've landed that very prospect in Dak.

Give me that every day of the week over the guy with the rocket arm who you're constantly waiting on breaking through.

super post bro.

Why are we still talking about Wentz? **** Wentz and I hope he's a scrub for life. I hope he gets his thumb bitten off by a bear at the zoo. I hope he has a religious awakening and decides to pursue priest-hood in Bangladesh.
I hope he is chosen to go on a Mars excursion, the craft gets stuck in Mars for a decade before being rescued. I hope that he wakes up one morning and suddenly forgets who he is and that he plays football.

One drive? There are single plays that mean so much they have names.

That's right, there are amazing single plays in history like...

"The Immaculate Reception"

"The Catch".

"The coverage breakdown that let Dez catch a 53 yard pass without a DB within 5 yards, which was the only pass of the game over 18 yards".

I get chills just thinking about them....

I'm sure as Dak kneels the ball securing his first playoff win leading us to a place we haven't been in 20 years you won't get chills then either. agendas always prevail on cowboyszone

Wentze was never going to be a Cowboy, people need to get over it...

Romo was a game manager that year. Perhaps you missed that. Everyone talked about how less Romo meant more winning. We were more Romo friendly. Remember? It's the same formula now. Prescott is being asked to manage games and allow the real strengths win the game. This is good. He's a rookie. He shouldn't be expected to do more but that doesn't mean he's an MVP candidate. That's laughable nonsense coming from Cowboys fans and/or people who don't know the game.

The man threw for just over 300 yards combined the last two games and won them both. Against a very good Commanders team and the still playoff contending Vikings. Nothing more needs to be said than that.

I agree I don't think he's an MVP candidate.

Dak drew up that play, and got it put in playbook, then he picked the right time to call it,
and then threw it on target so dez could run under it.
he and dez knew the db would bite on the fake.

This upcoming 2017 draft would be so different if we had not hit the lottery with Dak. We would be more than likely selling the farm like Philly did to catch Wentz. I think the QB talent pool has less depth than last year. We won the lottery again. Getting a DE that applies pressure is 20,000 leagues easier than getting a starting QB, much less one that leads the conference in QBR after 12 games.
Now we can go get a real WR and a DE.

This 2017 draft is full of #2 WR's, are they better than TWill? They will be cheaper.
DE's are also in abundance with some names like Solomon Thomas from Stanford to put on you radar. Impacting in 2017 is doubtful no matter our selection as rookies often do not provide returns for several seasons.
Free Agency will be our friend in 2017 to provide a bandaid for the defensive pressure player. Important that we free up as much money as possible to pay the piper(bye Tony).

"The Immaculate Reception"

"The Catch".
The "Heart of a Tiger" scramble on 3rd and 13 from our own 13, especially if it's one of the plays that makes the difference in us getting HFA.

The run and threat of the run opens all kinds of doors.
Absolutely, and that includes QB runs and the threat of them.

Just because the OP pointed out that most of our success on that drive happened when Elliott was on the sideline, don't think it was anti-Elliott. You could argue that the Vikings defense was so focused on stopping Zeke, they lost focus when he was out of the game.

Late to the debate about Dak, but for those calling him a game manager...dude is third in the league in yards per attempt (8.31 YPA only behind Matt Ryan and Brady). You don't need volume and raw stats if efficiency is nearly league-leading.

I believe they are trying to protect Zeke from hitting that rookie wall that seems to happen to rookies not used to the number and intensity of the games in the NFL. I am pretty certain that once the playoffs start, they will ride that horse all the way till the end.
Well Zeke said it best and I concur: "I don't believe in a rookie wall"

I thought Dak did admirably in really adverse conditions.
For an appreciation of how difficult it's been for quarterbacks in their six games at Minnesota this year.

Passer rating at Minnesota
Prescott 108.3 W
Stafford 87.6 W
Rodgers 70.7 L
Palmer 63.3 L
Manning 63.3 L
Osweiler 56.1 L

TQBR
Stafford 79.1 W
Prescott 57.2 W
Rodgers 51.6 L
Palmer 24.8 L
Manning 20.3 L
Osweiler 12.2 L

This last one is just ANY/A with QB runs and lost fumbles thrown in.
pass yd + rush yd - sack yards + (20 x td) - (45 x turnover) / dropbacks + runs

Stafford 5.65 W
Prescott 5.04 W
Manning 4.80 L
Rodgers 3.16 L
Osweiler 2.83 L
Palmer 2.70 L

Those last two jibe pretty well with what I saw.

a. at least 4 st8 100 yd games as a rookie something TD and ES never did

b. broke T Dorsett's rookie rushing record

c. only RBs in NFL history to rush for 1000yds in their ninth game are A Peterson, E Dickerson and EE

d. has an incredible 4.9 YPC avg

e. leads NFL in rushing

f. has chance to break E Dickerson's record and an outside chance of gaining 2000 yds this season

g. blocks well

h. receives well including screens

i. incredible speed thru the line which is especially predictive of success in the NFL; another measurement of burst
Also his YPC would be something like 5.5, which is beyond absurd, without two BS penalties negating runs of 65 and 50

:lmao::lmao::lmao:

This is epic.

What has Zeke done that is so special?

And I don't mean running thru mac truck size holes. Has he wowed anybody? Yeah He's hurdled a couple guys, but has done more than 'got what's there'?

His production seems to be treated as if he's reinventing the position, while Dak is viewed as 'anybody could do that with that talent'

Funny thing is, when Murray was plowing his way to an 1,800+ plus season, the general consensus was anybody could run behind that line. Even out of shape Barry Sanders(last I seen him) said he could get 40+ behind them. McFadden, who hadn't had 1,000 yard season in years, and most thought he was washed up when signed, would've had a 1,500 yard season behind this line.

Has everybody come down with amnesia?

Why is the perception that anybody can do what Dak is doing, when there is no history of any QB(other than Romo) winning with this team? But we have a history and a general opinion that any runner can produce behind this line, but somehow Zeke(season)is looked upon as more special than Dak.
Lol. McFadden "got what was there". Murray "got what was there" (left meat on the bones). If you think Zeke is simply "getting what is there" you are either not very smart or not watching the games.

Dak is on his way to becoming elite.
Kurt Warner, who loves Romo and has been very reluctant to praise Prescott, just called him the top QB under the age of 25 (He actually had Carr ahead of Dak, but Carr turned 25 in March).

We have no idea if Prescott will end up in the category of a Romo or those other guys, but I like the spirit of the post, as opposed to the nitpicking, double standards, or just plain silence by those who can't enjoy this while it's still happening -- whatever the outcome.
