Prisco Blasts Brooking Signing

Another slow one for the Cowboys?

A year ago, the Dallas Cowboys signed linebacker Zach Thomas as a free agent.

He looked old, slow and didn't make a lot of plays for the Cowboys. So what do the Cowboys do now? They sign Keith Brooking to a three-year deal. Brooking, who spent all 11 of his seasons with the Atlanta Falcons, doesn't run well enough anymore. That's why Atlanta let him go.

But here's Dallas willing to jump in and sign another aging, slowing linebacker. Jerry Jones didn't learn his lesson from last year.

I see no reason for Prisco or anyone to complain about this signing.

It's a modest contract and he's probably only here for 2 of those 3 years.

We'll still be looking for LB in the draft....at least we should be.

Brookings is depth. Nothing wrong with adding quality depth, especially when Bobby Carpenter's your only other option.

Falcons 4-3 requires a lot more coverage ability on there LB's. Brooking was playing out of place at SOLB & has lost a step I am told by longtime Falcon fans, but he can still run well enough and play inside LB, the team wanted to stay younger there.

Once again Prisco is completely wrong. Jerry has signed many players over 30 thru the years. He hasn't learned his lesson from the last several years. Lucky for us we have been drafting better lately so perhaps we can avoid this more in future years.

Prisco's is short-sighted and really an idiot for this article. As stated in this thread, we will be drafting an LB or two. Any LB coming in behind Brooking and James will learn a lot. Same thing when Roy came in under Darren, Scandrick/Jenkins under Newman and Henry, and Romo under Vinny/Drew. I like the signing. I guess we have to spend at least 100 mill to please him.
Prisco, *** off.

I just read that the Falcons wanted him to stay in Atlanta and tried to extend his contract, but Brooking decided to leave the Falcons and play for the Cowboys.

why would a writer blast a team for signing a part time player?

I dont get it. No one cares when the patriots keep bringing in Junior seau or when kc signs donnie edwards.

Brookings will be a short timer playing part time and hopefully just insurance for backer that gets drafted while he learns the game.

These guys see dallas cowboys on the wire and lose their mind.

It's almost like they believe that going to New England 10 out of 10 times is a better move for every player.

Over the top claims like that are ridiculous...

wow your hillarious.

I would go to new england over dallas 10 times out of 10, like I said in the springs thread.

Best coach in the league, no nonsense atmoshpere, best qb in the league, great fans and the coach if he signs you, will play you. As a veteran you will have a role.

With the talent that team has and brady coming back, coupled with their draft picks they have stockpiled, they to me are the best team in the league, for all the right reasons.

So yes feel free to throw some more insults around.

and what are you doing posting by the way, no is talking about you know who? Do you know anything else about this team?

Just commenting how it is a little over the top to say things like that, there's plenty of reasons for players to want to be here.

Look at Brooking, he also knows a little bit about the NFL and decided Dallas was where he wanted to be. I know you feel he is an idiot for it, but realistically, things aren't as bad here as some of you fans make it out to be.

And don't be bitter about being wrong a bout TO, just let it go.

BTW-Where did I throw around an insult?

WHat.

I have no problem with brooking here and never have said anything like that, in fact I got jumped for saying if zach was going to leave brooking would be a fit over a week ago.

and Brooking is here because this is probably the only place where he is going to get to start and play a bunch of snaps. I dont think that is true of anywhere else for him.

what does owens have to do with any of this? I am not even talking about him. You and your cronies that start crap on here all the times are the ones that bring him up and I never see you or them talk about anything else and I believe it is because you dont know anything else about the team.

Please ignore me. Your petty arguments are boring. Please just keep having them with other people.

and again, my talking about new england was in reference to Springs. So please get a clue.

Cool down.

You're flipping out over nothing. I made a statement that is was ridiculous to say that New England is such a better place that you would go there 10 out of 10 times and play for pennies on the dollar. And it is.

That's a backhanded slap at this team and disagree with your statement.

Falcons tried to create the perception they were letting him walk to drive down the interest, then tried to slide back in and sign him. Very solid move for us, decent price, 13 years of experience, and just came off a nice playoff run.

This is just insurance, I still expect us to draft LB early in the draft - but Brooking will make that transition a lot easier, and even at his age, I'm certain he's more durable than KB.

Zach was hardly much of a problem last year. And in the second half of the season he was fine once the D-Line started to do their job (sans Ratliff who was always doing his job). And saying Zach looked slow is ridiculous. And how exactly is Dallas supposed to get quicker at the positiion? Get an aging Ray Lewis? (who I would like to have, but more for leadership reasons)

You're best off getting a quality, veteran like Brooking who has played for Wade and then drafting a young player to learn.

So Springs should ignore the chance to play for his childhood heroes, to play wearing the star like his father and to be close to his ailing father? And on top of that -To join a team with every bit of a chance to be successful as New England or any other in '09?
