are you guys kidding ? Chip kelly has gone to playoffs in his first season and almost made it last season even though he has scrubs like Foles and Sanchez playing QB.i understand homerism but that is ridiculous.Garrett needed a new OC so to make the playoffs in 4 years,he is just a bad playcaller.to me his only good attribute is he is a good cheerleader and atleast understand that the teams is built inside out ,i will give him credit for that.

In 4 years as Cowboys head coach, Jason Garrett has one winning season, one division championship, and 3 years of mediocrity.

In two years as Eagles head coach, Chip Kelly has two winning seasons and one division championship as well.

That, among other reasons, is why Chip is ranked 6 slots higher than Garrett on this list.

So you, as a fan, were happy with 3 straight 8-8 seasons?

No.

But I was happy with the 5-3 he started with and was positively thrilled with the 12-4 of last season.

I'm not sure how/why anyone would just focus on the three middle seasons.

So paraphrase here "let's praise the good times and completely forget the bad times."

But it's not like I'm doing the opposite. Last year was great, no one denys that. But we just lost a big part success of that in Murray, more than most fans are willng to admit. If we don't find a suitable replacement, well have to go back to the run-pass-pass-punt philosophy of the 8-8 years. Doesn't mean he can't/wont be replaced, just means we have work to do. Unless you really think run DMC or Ryan Williams is really the answer.

The three middle seasons would have been much worse with bad coaching. Those teams had some serious holes. The defense was positively horrible. With even an average defense during those years, the record would have been much better.

But there haven't been any "bad times".

8-8 is average. It's not bad.

So to correct your paraphrase "Let's praise the good times and completely forget the average times."

I'm not forgetting them.

I have not posted that I thought Garrett was a top-10 coach.

I just think it's goofy to have a guy who's been coaching for 4 1/2 seasons, and who's never had a losing record, be ranked 18th out of 32 teams.

Agreed.

I'm not sure why some do not see that... Agenda I guess.

You certainly like talking for other fans. How about you talk for yourself and we will talk about ourselves. Leave the other out of it. You don't get that authority, chachi.

It's funny. Fans think he should be hire but just a year ago the majority of fans wanted Garrett fired. His position is fine to me. He's a better coach than being given for but he needs to build on last season.

I guess I jumped the gun when I read you didn't want to focus on the middle seasons.

And you're right, 8-8 is average. But what do you call 3 straight 8-8 seasons where you controlled your own destiny each time and lost? Granted, one was with Kyle Orton, but it's not like he plated horrible that game.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad we resigned him this offseason, but around the NFL average is about right for him, give or take 2 spots

1 winning season out of 4 years doesn't deserve a higher ranking.

8-8 is bad.

This is the Dallas Cowboys. Don't let anyone lower that bar for you.

Yeah but none of that other stuff means anything. You either win or lose. I couldn't give a crap how much players like playing for the head coach.

It is really more like respect. Players like playing for Wade Phillips because life was easy then. Life isn't easy with Garrett, but the players know if you don't do things his way, you're gone. His message gets through to the team, and that is huge.

Ultimately, winning is all that matters, as you say. However, nobody would try to say that team chemistry, respect for the head coach and him getting his message across isn't important in putting together a winning team.
