Prisco: Team-by-Team Overrated/Underrated lists

During the first 3/4 of the season in '06 I think Roy was having the best season of any player on defense. Saying he sucked means you weren't paying attention.

I think if anything Romo is underrated. All I hear is how much he sucks now and how he struggled down the stretch. But the truth is that even when he "struggled" down the stretch he was still a top 10 QB production-wise.

:hammer:
Some either have unrealistic expectations for players or don't know a whole lot about football.

Roy amd Romo played good football last year. Yea they made some mistakes but their big plays outweighed those mistakes imo.

We are a spoiled lot of fans. That's all.

Most franchises don't have nearly the embarassment of all-time great talent that we have had.

I will not listen to parental tales of the starving franchises in China who would be happy to have a 9-7 one and done season and be thankful for the two playoff appearances in ten years. Or take pride in a player making a Pro Bowl year after year. If it takes my "stars" rising from "very good" to "elite" so be it.

I am like Veruca Salt in terms of my football team. I won't apologize for it either.

I think we have a couple of potential HOF players. On offense TO is certainly up there; Witten could be if he keeps up current performance for another 5 years. On D there is of course D Ware; and while its not likely since he will not get a whole bunch of Pro Bowls (without that you have no hope) T New is a top 3 CB and has been for several years. Roy.... well.... if he keeps going to Pro Bowls yes. So we could end up with as many as 4 HOF players on this team in the end (TO, Witten, Ware, Roy).

To turn that around how many will the Pats have? Brady and Seymour. But who else?

:hammer: through 10 games, Roy led the NFL in takeaways w/ 7, everyone is harping on Roy getting burnt, but so was just about everyone in our secondary, except for Newman, at the time when ROy's coverage deficiencies were most glaring, when our whole D fell off in those last 6 games

i wont co sign to the rest of the post, but i will to this part. fans, at least, make alot of excuses for him. it never seems to be his fault, but he seems like a good guy and thats what fans do for team players like him.

as for the skins and randle el being 'nothing more than a good #3', yes. hes a pretty good PR as well. over paid? maybe. (lloyd makes about the same as him as is not nearly as good as of yet). not sure about over rated. he was one of the few bright spots last season for the skins. there are other players on this team you could make a better case for.

then Lloyd really sucks because Randle-El is just average

Thats good. But by name alone, he is supposed to be one of (if not) the best players in the league on defense for the whole, entire season. That he didn't accomplish, not at all.

You are looking at the trees without looking at the forest. When outsiders think of the Cowboys, Roy Williams is the face that was drafted here, seen as a lifetime Cowboy, and Ring of Honor candidate. By those standards, Roy Williams has a name that should be a candidate for Defensive player of the year, every year. Is he??

Umm no. And that is why he is overrated.

name me one player who is one of the best players in the league, who played stellar for all 16 games last year

and if you think Roy is supposed to be the best player in the league, then that's where your problem lies...too much expectations

My question is this. Williams played really well because he had the statistics to "prove it". Yet, Terence Newman didn't have the numbers but he did really really well also.

It sounds to me some people decide when statistics are important and when they are not.

noone really threw at Newman is why

Since when has it been bad to have high expectations. Would we rather expect mediocrity.

Well, I know its the offseason, when things are rosey, but I do expect alot out of Roy, and last year he was disappointing. Don't think that should upset Roy fans, just my opinion.

So lets say Terrell Owens under performed

it's not bad to have high expectations, it's only bad when they aren't fulfilled and you feel personally wronged because they weren't met

I'm a big fan of Romo, but I'm not offended by this. You can make an argument based on the number of games he played last year et cetera.... I have faith in him tho. I think he has the moxie and athletisism for the job.

On a different note, Terrence Newman did get robbed. We know how underrated he is. He has stepped up for this team since he first wore the star. Good going Terrence. You're our little pro bowler....

:laugh2:

I don't know if Jared Allen is underrated. If you have watched him play you know what he is.

A good player with a motor that never stops. I don't see how he can be underrated when hes the best DL the Chiefs have, even though over the last few years that hasn't said a whole lot.

It's because nobody pays him his dues; he is just as good as Aaron Shoebel in Buffallo but nobody cares.

I'm not basing my statement that Roy was playing well on the statistics, by the way.

I was responding to summer, if you notice and nor am I saying Williams sucks, by the way.
