NFLN played a Muse song (my favorite band ever) right before the Cowboys selection.

This was destiny.

Some don't realize how bad Dallas needed a FS. Fans like Wilcox but Jones is a superior talent at FS, the upgrade from there with Byron may find JJ on the bench.

Who covered TEs last year when they were burning the secondary? Byron Jones puts out those fires and shuts down most TEs in the NFL.

my problem is not with Jones, its with using more resources on CB. You can select 4 more in this draft and it wont mean a darn thing if the DL can't stop the run or pressure the QB. The current CBs on the roater are adequate, with a pass rush. You can have Charles, Darren and Rod Woodson, along with Deion in their prime, and without a pass rush or run stoppers, they will just be average.

and that is why they got Hardy that is why they drafted Lawrence. At some point Dallas had to deal with CB everyone and their brother have reported on this. You said using more resources on CB, 2012 we drafted Claiborne that has not been working out even when Ware was here. We signed Carr to a big deal and has put the team in a situation that they will likely move on from him in the near future and then you have Scandrick. This is not a rich area for this team. Our LB lead the team in ints we need more out of the CB position.

CB is one of the most important positions on defense, which is why they are one of the highest paid position groups across the league. And they can take some time to develop, so you bring them in at least a year in advance if you can.

I like the CBs on the roster better than most do already, but if you're planning on moving on on Carr after the season, it was time to bring somebody in, and this guy was an impact player. Nobody should not like the pick on the basis of fit or need. If you don't like the player in particular, that's another matter.

And yes, of course, pressure is the other part of the passing defense equation. We addressed that last season with Lawrence, and this season--expensively--with Greg Hardy. And we'll definitely address the defensive front with our other high picks here over the next few days. We're going about things the right way, and taking the highest rated players on our board at positions of relative need. It's more of what's been paying off for the last several years and part of a fairly obvious pattern in Dallas right now. For my part, I'm just enjoying it.

I agree I would also add yesterday some made comments on the CB having taking square pegs and trying to put them in a round hole. Mo and Carr not much into playing zone coverage’s, Jones is he is the round peg that fits into the round hole.

Yep. He's a good pick.

I was really wanting a front 7 player in the first myself, but was mostly hoping a player (like Dupree) might inexplicably drop to us. The guys who were there all fall into the same bucked for me, and I expect we'll get a player from that bucket at some point today. Of the guys who were there for the front 7, Malcolm Brown was the best option, but I liked Jones slightly better at that point. I think we'll end up pretty satisfied with the defensive haul from the first two picks if that's the direction we go here in the 2nd. There are a lot of good players who are going to still be there for us at 60.

I was told that Byron Jones is nothing but a workout warrior. One coach told me "I almost fell down laughing watching him do corner drills."

He has a point. I watched some of Jones and i dont like him at all. Seems like a second and even worse TNEW. Superb athlete but no football skills.

Lets wait 2 or 3 years maybe he is clever and able to overcome his disadvantages with smarts. Id be happy. But right now this is just a really bad pick for me. I wouldnt have picked this player even in the 4th round. This kid looks way too lost on the field.

I did as well. I like Brown, was not crazy about the idea of Gregory as some where, I saw him as too small to be a DE. As we both have mentioned Dallas needed a pass rusher so they went out and got one in Hardy so they have addressed an area of need via FA they also drafted a kid whom they feel can be a very good pass rusher in Lawrence. If you feel you have made moves to address an area of need when do you move on to other areas that you know must be addressed? I think DT is an area I would like to see more added to and a DE who fits the 4-3

Don't say that. CB Byron Jones fans will tell you he is a CB and it'd be a waste to mention him as a safety

I'm a huge fan of Jones, but I think he would be good at either. For the Cowboy in 2015 I think he has more value as a CB, but if they have an injury at Safety he would be a good option.

True and the other things he will likely be here for the next 4 to 5 years on a rookie deal who is too say at some point Dallas moves him to FS? I think it is safe to say he will be lining up at CB this year but the draft is not all about this season.

What's funny is that Prisco had Byron Jones going to the Ravens at 26 in his mock draft. So he thinks it's a great steal and nailed the draft position for the guy as well.

I had Byron Jones ranked 27th on my board.

Bow down.

Yep. Both.

It would be really nice to have just one more 2nd rounder this year. We could use the DL help, and we still want a RB. I think a good back is going to be there for us in the third, but it'd be really nice to have the luxury to get our guy instead of getting who's left to us and hoping it's a guy we're especially high on. Even an extra third that we could bundle with our own to move up if we wanted to would be helpful here. C'est la vie.

I do not get why so many are harping over this pick. Is it because their pet was not picked instead? The value is there. The talent is there. The athletic ability is there. The intelligence is there. The dedication to the game is there.

Jones was ranked on many boards much higher than where Dallas picked him. He fills a huge need. I'm personally excited with the pick and look forward to seeing him in the starting lineup.

Is this your first rodeo? It's like this every year in the draft with that first pick being the most scrutinized.

I think there's just a growing segment of this fan base that is just sick of this cornerback nonsense.

I feel it all comes down to who is on the board when we pick at 60. If there is a RB they like and is higher on their board take him same with other positions.

If Byron Jones is anything close to what TNew was for us then we got the steal of the draft by a mile. He is just as fast so it is a possibility.

Please show me the game and 2 plays where he was terrible. I've watched 4 complete games and I recall 1 play that I thought was terrible.
