I feel it all comes down to who is on the board when we pick at 60. If there is a RB they like and is higher on their board take him same with other positions.

Yeah, I can see them going RB at 60, too. I just think it's more likely a defender they have rated higher is going to be there and they think they can get the back in the 3rd, but it's obviously a function of how the board breaks. Lots of good defenders left, though, and I think we're serious about going defense-heavy this year.

I do not get why so many are harping over this pick. Is it because their pet was not picked instead? The value is there. The talent is there. The athletic ability is there. The intelligence is there. The dedication to the game is there.

Jones was ranked on many boards much higher than where Dallas picked him. He fills a huge need. I'm personally excited with the pick and look forward to seeing him in the starting lineup.

It's really a function of what goes on every year when we miss out on pet cats, plus the small group of professional complainers. I think the pick was generally well-received by fans and critics and the media, overall, right? He was a pretty good fit for us at that point and with that board.

Dude cannot even watch the tape himself? Instead says he was told and quotes a unknown coach.

What's more, there were numerous other coaches/scouts, etc. that did actually go on record as saying he was a very good pick. I tend to give more credence to named sources than "unnamed" sources.

I was for taking Brown, but I think Jones will end up being very good.
He still has some developing to do and I think he'll take to it well in the long term.
He was the 27th pick, not the 10th.

I tend to trust Marineli and McClay a bit more than some of our YouTube scouts. But hey, that's what forums are for.

Guess we'll know in a couple of years.

Wish I could give you a few more "likes" for this!

The only bad things ive seen from him were a bit tight in his hips in transition and doesn't get low enough in backpedal....

Both obviously correctable with coaching... From a physical perceptive he is a freak with great size and good ball skills...

I trust our scouting and am thrilled with the pick... It's not a SEXY pick but definitely a need.

I was told that Byron Jones is nothing but a workout warrior. One coach told me "I almost fell down laughing watching him do corner drills."

Fitzsimmons is the biggest know-nothing blowhard in Dallas. Brother is an asst coach in Detroit so he thinks he knows everything about football. No on-air talent at all, which makes it strange that he keeps a job. Must have naked pictures on somebody.

His skill set reminds me of Richard Sherman a bit. His lower body strength will be big in press coverage if he can develop more in that area. His leaping ability will make it difficult for QBs to throw over his head.

I think he'll excel early in bracket zone coverage with safety help - Cover 2. He'll take some time to develop more in man coverage as the NFL game is just not the same as the college game.

my problem is not with Jones, its with using more resources on CB. You can select 4 more in this draft and it wont mean a darn thing if the DL can't stop the run or pressure the QB. The current CBs on the roater are adequate, with a pass rush. You can have Charles, Darren and Rod Woodson, along with Deion in their prime, and without a pass rush or run stoppers, they will just be average.

There's merit to both sides of the debate (DL vs CB/S) on this, IMO. The problem is that they can only select one player with one pick. I know that we need to improve our pass rush...my hope is that D-Law comes on strong, that Hardy gets a shorter sentence, Crawford continues to improve, and that we get another player or two tonight/tomorrow. It is what it is. I can't fault the pick of Jones at all.

Haley will be there after 4 games; D-Law, Mincy, Brent, and our young depth will be better. There's also 6 more draft rounds.

My kids say "chillax".

Good timing on that comment.

I just heard on the radio that after the combine, they had a muti-week camp for defensive backs with several NFL level DB coaches there to help.

The specific comments on Byron Jones was that he had all the upside you could ever imagine, took to coaching very well, and was on another level athletically...but he came a bit raw in his technique.
They said that he took to coaching so well that it was night and day by the time the camp was over.

Sadly, even if Haley did play in week 5 he'd probably still upgrade this team's pass rush.

We added Jones. That means they can hold the coverage. There's your pass rush.

Now, give a Wade Phillips style fist pump.

The critics of this pick are all missing facts about Byron Jones and seemingly using a lot of selective reasoning. Here are a few points to ponder.1.)We drafted a player who played for a former defensive coach for the Cowboys,Paul Pasqualoni has ties here and his assessment of this 4 yr.heady scholar-athlete should carry a lot of wieght, moreso than a run-of-the-mill association with other major conference coaches he owes a lot to Parcells and Jerry Jones for reviving coaching his carreer. 2. Intagibles: 4 year starter, durable player except for labrum tear in second half of senior yr. 3.Intagibles 2,Served as an summer intern on congressional staff this is a heady player who will be hungry to be a student of the game-very important for a DB.4. Workout warrior is not a curse its a testament to the players commitment to building his body into NFL size and shape,it's indicative of a work ethic to build your legs to a 44 in. vertical and world record broad jump strength.I liked the pick a lot and hoped he would get through PITT as he's a Troy Polamalu starter kit at FS if they move him there.CB was a position of great need and CB is one of the required premium positions on the field.

Its everybody's right to have their own opinion on the pick good or bad. And quite frankly, not one poster here can claim they know anything for certain about Jones or whether he will be a stud or a bust. From my own opinion, and the comments of some that don't prefer the pick, it has more to do with who they didnt take then who they did take.

The more I read about Jones, the more I like him. But the first things that people talk about are his work out numbers, the long jump, and his versatility. I know personally, I would rather them talk about his ability to cover as a sure fire shut down corner. But its not what year hear.

Im also a guy that believes the line is more important then the secondary. Passing on a DE and a DT that were both ranked higher, I have an issue with. In my mind, this draft is deeper in corner then the other two positions. And from where we are drafting and should be for the next few years, Dlineman that have impact potential rarely fall to the back of the first round.

That list was a mess. A former Cowboys coach connection means nothing to what kind of player he is. He's durable except for the time he was injured. He was an intern for a Congressional staff and we all know how important that is to NFL success and his workout performance has to do with his work ethic over other players and not just God-given.

Lol - professional complainers. Nice descriptive. Think I'll use it as I know some at work that fit the bill.

I would have been fine with either Brown or Jones but to play devils advocate. Every year we hear about these great DT's (Floyd, Easley, Jernigan, Brown, Goldman) and they seem to always be drafted at the end of the 1st or 2nd round. It's not only the Cowboys that pass on them. The only DE is Gregory and no one can say for sure he is on the Cowboys board.
