Progress Report: Jabril Cox

What? That's completely untrue IMO. You are stating that as compared to the average LB Cox lacks lateral agility? I'd say the opposite and he has very good lateral agility and is more fluid than your average LB and I don't think it is particularly close.
I'm not saying anything. The experts are.

Where did you get your info?

At this stage he’s probably pencilled in to be LB #3 behind LVE and Clarke but that’s probably more than he’s earns considering how little he’s played/shown. I think we draft a guy to compete with him and maybe even bring a vet in post draft like we did with Barr.

American Buffalo in the 1890's
NFL Linebackers in the 2020's

Once both roamed the green tundra in abundance... near extinction.

Only two or three LBs worth drafting in this class.

True story: One time while driving to Alaska in Canadien BC I slept in my car's driver's seat. Woke up and there was a big *** buffalo not even 3 feet away from my head, one eye staring at me. Shoulda drafted him in the second round.

The Cowboys may be justifiably reluctant to give Jabril Cox a job as a starter if he's unable to play injury-free for a substantial amount of time. That hasn't happened as yet. Hopefully, that pattern might be overcome in 2023 with better luck. If not, the draft may come into play by putting an end to that scenario. Availability is always a crucial factor in being retained. We'll see if that situation changes in 2023. I wish him well.

He played a lot in the preseason games and I didn't thnk he was limited in practice right before the PS games started, so I don't buy his injury from mid-way through the prior year was a big part of the problem. For whatever reason the Cowboys refuse to really put him on the field. I can't see how he would be worse in the nickel than what we have at times ran out there. For instance, watching Clark try to play the middle of the field in a zone was painful at times and showed he needed a little more seasoning, which is expected considering how little practice time he really had. Maybe I'm wrong about Cox, maybe they are wrong, but regardless I just don't think this team is interested in giving him many snaps on defense
Im wondering if some of that had to do with Barr? Before he got hurt he looked like a steal. Hopefully, he makes the next step.

My eyes. I Don't form an opinion based on other people's opinions. I'd say any expert who says that didn't watch him in College and hasn't watched him in the NFL or doesn't know he is a LB. Your use of Heath as a comparable for Cox is way off base. Care to share some of those specific expert opinions?

Crazy to me how attached some of the fanbase is to this player. It's pretty obvious the coaching staff has seen nothing from him to validate giving him playing time.

Bryan Broaddus talked about him in the last The Break show. Talked about how he has heard that he "takes 1 step forward and 2 steps back" and it seems he "just isn't getting right now and not getting that lightbulb moment". Not saying Broaddus is the holy preacher of football, but he does have a closer ear to the walls around the Cowboys campus than most of us do.

I already did. Put them in quotation marks.

Mostly, people who claim the eye test as their evaluation process don't get things right a ton.

Possibly. They sure do sound like the same player.

Cox = Reggie Robinson.

There, that better?

maybe he needs a new coordinator, I heard that when a player sucks he just needs a new coordinator and he will be the best ever. Or just trade him and watch him become better. shrugs

No. Comparing Cox to either Heath or Robinson is off base IMO.

And cox is pretty much known as a LB who has good lateral ability as compared to other LBs, so I still don’t get that comment

Jabril Cox gets another TC to prove himself in the weeks ahead -- here's hoping he makes the best of it. Evidently, he needs to. Let's wish him luck.

When it's all said and done regarding Cox, I'm betting that he has some upside that he hasn't shown.
He has shown that he can play the box and hit, but kid got injured, does that curtail is natural physical nature?
Cox is LVE depth at this point until he can prove otherwise.

I thought Cox played well at times during his limited snaps before injury. And now it's like he can't get on the field. Hopefully he regains his game and can produce for this team.

I don’t understand how he didn’t get on the field more. LVE was average on his best day. Cox should’ve gotten more looks.

From where are you getting this lateral agility comment?
