Projected Starting Lineup on Defense

They have 3 choices. Leave the starters alone and elevate Jasper Brinkley or move either Hitchens/Lee to the middle. If Lee then they move Hitchens to WLB. FYI, Brinkley has 33 starts.

Yes because of injuries to other players and everything I have read about him he is only a marginal two down player. I just think way to much pressure is being put into this upcoming draft.

Jasper played 16 games and started 11 last year. Not saying he would be a replacement for Ro but maybe between him and a draft pick/FA we would be ok.

Hitchen at MLB if RoMc does not return.

The SLB is only on the field in the base which is less than 50% of the time. If Lee/HItchens are WLB/MLB any number of guys can play SLB. Keith Rivers, Dekoda Watson, Wilber, draft pick, etc..

Interesting thx.

How so? They don't have to get a starter at any position from what I see.

Still needing a starting A caliber DL, LB, and some mid round DB help. Not to mention RB. Look at the butchers draft recap the first two picks have been great, for the most part. After that other than Murray pretty much nothing. So this team needs to hit gold with those first three picks. Easier said than done IMO.

Since we weren't going to sign Murray, I was expecting at least one or two FAs picked up on Defense;

It didn't happen.....yet. And I don't think it will. They will rotate rookies in that list xwalker put together and pick up some tier 2 tier 3 guys and see if they can make the rotation too.

We really do have a no-name Defense....:) We need are own nickname for them though....

You could argue RB is needed as a starter but a starting caliber back (to split time with McFadden) will be available in the first or second round. I think the top picks will go to a RB, a DE to develop who gets some snaps on passing downs, a CB and a backup Will.

Beyond that there aren't any real holes to fill and you take the best available - and even then the pick won't be guaranteed a roster spot because he will be fighting with young returning players like Bishop, Weems, Patmon, etc.

We really need to add a stud DE and add 1 more 3 tech to the rotation. That would do wonders for our defense.

A few things:

1) if you're throwing in RoMc, might as well throw in Hardy too. Doesn't work that way.

2) ok, so maybe the defense at the moment is slightly better or at least as good as last year's at the end of the season. You're comparing a roster before actual game play and injuries to a roster that lost a lot of players. Hypothetically, we had the best LBers in the NFL last year. They never played in the field at the same time and had a combined 28 missed games including playoffs.

3) our run game and ability to control the clock made the defense appear better than it actually was. Even a horrible defense will have better stats if the opposing team has 20 fewer snaps a game. We don't know if we'll have the same to type of running, so that hurts the defense significantly.

4) despite all these things, our defense was still bad last year and played a big part in us not winning a Super Bowl. You can't trot out a defense of the same caliber and expect to compete for a championship.

Pretty sure the defensive starters will be not be rounded out by what is on the current roster.

And the offensive line didn't need any starters 3-4 years ago. Costa was coming off having played a full season. Livings was a career starter in Cincy. Bernadeau was a backup who started and showed potential.

The best defense we had last year was on the sidelines while the offense was on the field. Hope that changes at least some this season.

Seriously, Sean Lee deserves so much better than to be surrounded by these clowns (Tyronne Crawford and Orlando Scandrick excluded)

The LDE position and the 1tech need a major talent influx. Winning in the trenches means having more talent than the other side. It worked on the offensive side of the ball and will on the defensive side as well. Bargain basement guys as depth are fine but not as starters.

Who the heck do you want on the field on 3rd down out of Lee, Hitchens, and Brinkley? or Ro for that matter? One of the LBs has to go.

Sean Lee needs to complete a full season before he starts demanding roster changes. He's a good player, but 32 starts in 5 seasons ain't cutting the mustard.

X, I like your shot at the defense. I think that the just signed journeymen linebackers holds that positional group together. I am very looking forward to a group of Lee, McClain, and Hitchens.

I think that Anthony Spencer means more to this defense and a rotational strength, than meets the eye to a lot fans.

Me, I think that two defensive linemen and a running back are paramount in the draft.
