It's hard to explain but I'm a little worried that if the PS4 really outdoes the XBOX that it might change the type of games back to the way it was before, when there was a much bigger divide between PC games and console games.
It seems like most of the good RPGs, strategy games and shooters etc that I always liked were only on PC and most of the popular American game developers only did PC. Then when the Xbox became basically a computer hooked to your tv and the internet most of these made their way to Xbox and now both consoles. Before when PS1 and PS2 were dominant the type of games on consoles were never the kind of stuff I liked, it was more action button mashers and Japanese influenced game animation, Final Fantasy RPG type stuff.
I don't think games like Skyrim and Call of Duty would be on consoles if xbox didn't sort of bridge the gap during that time.
Your worries are my dream.
I MISS those days and I want them back. The new systems have slowly started to ruin PC games. Most PC games that come out now are released on consoles as well, which means everything gets dumbed down to console level, instead of taking advantage of what computers can do. ESPECIALLY when it comes to controls. Even MMORPG controls are starting to get super dumbed down to limited number of buttons so they can be more console friendly. Gameplay and content gets severely dumbed down as well, as there is a much larger market for children when it comes to consoles.
Now I certainly like the improvements to console games, but it's been at the expense of PC gaming unfortunately.
Elder Scroll games took a huge dive starting with Oblivion as they started to focus more on making them good console games, instead of good PC games. Can you do a lot in Oblivion and Skyrim? Yeah, and they are visually impressive, but pale in comparison to former titles like Morrowind, which was a PC game that got released on consoles, instead of a console game for PC's.
I donno, I just miss the days when game companies took advantage of everything a PC and a full keyboard could do for a game. Now they just dumb everything down for a simple controller scheme and whatever the consoles can handle, then port em to PC to expand their market.
