If ARod retires after the year I think the Jets will have $66 million in dead cap space from his deal in 2024.
If Rodgers decides to call it a career, and I think that's likely, he'd probably inform the Jets FO and allow them to designate him a post June 1st Cut. He can then at least allow the Jets to reduce the cap hit later and he can just retire after that. It's been done before.

QB contracts are going to head north of $50M per year and be more than 25% of the cap. Supersized cap impact when this happens.

Ok so why would Rodgers call it a career? He is going to have to rehab anyway so why not rehab with a very large goal in mind.

That sucks. He seemed rejuvenated. A lot of people HATE on him as if he did them dirty personally…..I don’t think like that….dude a hell of a player, was kind of excited to see what he did with that team…..OBVIOUSLY I would NEVER root for them or any one else against that the cowboys, but I like to see what other players do with other teams, I watch lots of different games on Sunday ticket so I kind of root for other teams to end up second to cowboys. So he didn’t want the poke, who cares, turns out most people didn’t need it anyways, no need to hate him for it.

I actually feel bad for Jets fans. Talk about a cursed franchise. Of course we are down in the dregs with them since the salary cap was put in place, but at least we have some great history.

I bet he comes back.
Jets have a mountain of dead space if he doesn't play next year. And his contract is fully guaranteed. They are going to push for him to come back one more year, especially the draft capital they gave up for him and they went all in to get all the offensive guys he wanted. And I'm sure Rodgers with the ego he has doesn't want to go out this way. I am sure he is going to play next year.

Agree….. he’s got a great team sitting there and seemed rejuvenated in NY, I want him to come back, just like I wanted Brady to come back, I respect excellence even if its outside the Cowboys.

True. But the sad thing is, their fanbase has at least witnessed 2 conference championship games in modern times. Back to back years with a guy like Mark Sanchez. We are waiting on our first since 1995. But they have been dreadful since those games and have had no real promise. At least we are competitive.

It's a lot harder to rehab a ruptured ACL over 40 than it is for a 20 something. He was already starting to show signs of decline last year, now he's going to add a year out of football on top of it.

Maybe he decides to stick it through and try it again, but do the Jets even want that? There are all kinds of question marks now and if I were the Jets FO I wouldn't be committed to sticking with an over 40 QB that lasted all of three plays.

Maybe I'm wrong but I can't see Rodgers out there again. He's got to be thinking of a nice broadcast booth and a gold jacket at this point, diva or not.

That's a good point I didn't realize they had been to 2 CCG's.

Yep yep. With Mark Sanchez at their QB. Never won the division in either run, either. A low seed wild card team. 2009 and 2010 seasons. Their defenses in those days was top notch but just never had enough offense to get over the top once they reached the AFC title game. Sanchez reminded me of an Eli Manning type except he never really played way over his head once he got to the playoffs like Eli did. Also didn't have the weapons at WR that Eli did
