I always thought Dan Marino had the quickest release I EVER seen, HOWEVER,

I believe ROMO's release is a little bit faster!

Thoughts? Am I missing the boat on this?

All I know is that both had really quick releases which obviously a big help to their offense--particularly their OL--and in our case our OL needs all the help it can get. Frankly I don't care who had the quickest release cause Marino is already retired and we don't have to face him. All I care is that Romo has maybe the quickest current release or darn near the quickest in today's NFL game. Now if our OL can stop committing penalties and eliminating the loss of yardage we gain from Romo's quick releases, we have good chance to beat the Colts--assuming our defense also (w/o Ellis) can play well enough to stop Manning from putting up 40+ points on us--cause I believe we can match Manning in a shootout--if Romo doesn't play Favre impersonator.

Either way they are close but the difference to me is Romo's mobility and his ability to know when he needs to run to get yardage instead of sitting back and getting sacked or throwing it away. Marino wasn't all that mobile, especially at the end of his career.

I still think Marino is the quickest ever and that no one has ever been close. Not Warner, not Romo.

I think it's arguable. But there is no way to really know. I could careless about who has the quicker release. I just want Romo to continue to get better and establish himself as a legititmate QB in this league.

So far all the signs are looking good.

I can't remember if it was FOX or ESPN, but a few years ago they tried to use tapes of games to measure the release. I didn't put too much stock in it because it just seems like it is too hard to measure, but they determined that Bulger had a quicker release than Warner and Warner was quicker than Marino. I think Marino had the quickest release from watching all three play.

Romo's decision making is quick and that to me is more impressive than his actual release. It really looks quick compared to the guy he replaced.

Watch an old film of Joe Namath in his prime!

I remember Joe and he too had a snap release that was mind blowing. I still think Marino was the quickest. He could have the ball at his waist on a draw and released in a blink. That to me is what was fast. From shoulder to gone is debatable who was faster because it all happens to fast it is in microseconds.

I think Marino was a bit faster but what does it matter, Romo release is very quick as well. As long as he is making the correct reads, getting the ball out quick and accurately that is all that matters.

The thing I notice is remember the three or 2.5 second clock we had in tc, I mean you can just count to yourself and the ball goes out eveytime, how come Bledsoe never got it. Anyway I was a Bledsoe guy, I was wrong, don't hate me Romo is better. Also as a comment the 3-4 wears down linebackers, people thought we were stocked but by the end of the season we'll have some more hurt besides Ellis, they just flat get hammered by lineman on every play and it gets them hust over time...

Marino then Namath. Romo gets rid of the ball quickly, but Marino could throw a deep ball while being hit hard. I remember one play where Jack Lambert in his last game blitzed hard and fast and nailed Marino to the ground. Marino had the ball when Lambert hit him, by the time they hit the ground an instant later the ball was twenty yards downfield and caught by Mark Duper.

Lambert just shook his head in disbelief; it was like a new era had arrived in that moment.

Another thing I remember was the QB competition one year where there was a timed obstacle course and at the end of it you had to throw the ball at a bullseye. Marino was razzing Randall Cunningham before the start, jokingly claiming he would own the very fast and mobile Cunningham and beat his time on the drill. Cunningham was of course an amazingly athlete and when he ran the course he nailed the bullseye at the end of it and was leading the competition by a mile. Then Marino went, and was predictably slow and ponderous running the obstacles, but at the finish line the ball rocketed out of his hands and nailed the bullseye. It was like lightning, the instant Marino's foot hit the finish line the ball was out of his hands. Marino won the drill. Everyone was shocked, except Marino who knew what he was talking about.

If the best thing about Romo is his quick decision making, the second best thing is that the pressure doesn't seem to affect his progressions.

I have never been so impressed as I was when Romo avoided Robert Griffith's blitz (taking his eyes from downfield), stepped up in the pocket after avoiding the tackle, and hit Crayton in stride for a first down.

Very few QB's could have avoided the blitz, and those that could probably wouldn't have had the presence to stay with the play and complete a pass for a first down.

I think it's about even, but Marino had a gun for an arm, but on the other hand, Romo can escape pressure like Elway.

Hmmm, while Romo has a quick release, Dan Marino's release was faster.

Marino was pretty slick moving in the pocket avoiding the rush at the last second. He didn't get sacked too often early in his career.

Romo's throwing motion is so quick it is amazing! He makes his reads very fast and he holds the ball high to begin with so when he decides to throw it is a very quick motion to get the ball out. To me it looks quicker than Marino's, at least from a mechanics/technique aspect.

Some of it may also be the routes the receivers are running. Duper & Clayton were deep threats and didn't run a lot of short routes while Owens is more of a short route runner. That said, I believe his motion is quicker than Marino's was. I think Marino had a stronger arm and was a bit more accurate.

Are we talking Mini-Marino or the full size version? I think the full sized Marino would probably beat all comers like 100 times faster then the fastest going. Maybe the Mini-Marino could be half again as fast.

.........

I really miss the old SNL.

:D
