Alot of us seem to forget that Peyton, has a quick release as well and Troy's wasn't too shabby either, and Carr too has a very quick release.

Fouts also had a very fast release.
What does it really matter a quick release doesn't always result in a pass completion.

I grew up in Florida and have seen many Dolphin games and I havent seen anyone duplicate the release of Marino.
He was truely a great player on a less than great team!
I always wondered how much better Marino would be thought of if he played for Dallas teams of the 90's.
I dont think Aikman was near the skill level of Dan the man!
IMO
Who has the SB rings just checking I don't care how great Dan's skill level was he never won a championship.

I do remember a certain QB, who couldn't match Dan's skill level in a SB, and beat him that was Montana.

Would Dan, won a SB, with the Cowboys as QB, with his pedigree yes since you want to bring up that subject again the 90s Cowboys offense had Beuerlein, Wilson, Kosar, Garrett, and Peete do you think any of them would've led them to any SBs as the starting QB that will be no.

You might even say Kosar, won an NFC Championship, in place of Aikman, one year but the same can be said about the Patriots, when Bledsoe, led them past the Steelers in the AFC Championship in the place of an injured Brady.

It doesn't really matter because Marino, wasn't the QB of the 90s Cowboys Aikman, was and was as intergral as any QB, in leading his team to 3 SBs whether some like it or not.

Great sonnyboy! I am excited to read several of you Zoners see it also......ROMO has such a quick release it is SILLY!

No, I have not seen the utube you referred to but, I have examined ROMO release over and over and remember Marino's release--I just thought maybe I was way off base with this observation but obviously not after reading all these great inputs.

Thanks :)

I almost forgot. First time I viewed that utube video, I missed a release. Thought there was a problem with the video. There wasn't, I just missed it while I blinked. His release is as quick as a blink!:laugh2:

Between drop back, set up and release....Namath...Hands down.

As far as release only, Marino and Namath would be about even in my mind...I think Namath had the better arm though.

Romo doesn't have the release like Marino had or the arm strength, although he does have a pretty good arm. Philip Rivers is a guy with a quick release that resembles Dan Marino..

No way Broadway Joe had a better arm than Marino....

If the best thing about Romo is his quick decision making, the second best thing is that the pressure doesn't seem to affect his progressions.

I have never been so impressed as I was when Romo avoided Robert Griffith's blitz (taking his eyes from downfield), stepped up in the pocket after avoiding the tackle, and hit Crayton in stride for a first down.

Very few QB's could have avoided the blitz, and those that could probably wouldn't have had the presence to stay with the play and complete a pass for a first down.

The combination of Romo's quick decision making and release makes the football get to a receiver in a split second it seems on the short and intermediate passes.

Yea, of the successful QBs, Namath then Marino is probably correct.

People tend to look at quick releases and only compare the "name" QBs though. There's been quite a few QBs over the last 40 years who rivaled the two in the "quick release" category but had scattershot arms or pop-gun arms or made poor decisions.

Getting rid of the ball quickly is only good if it's accurate to the correct target with sufficient velocity.

First of all I am a Dallas Cowboys fan, however ask yourself if Aikman, Montana, Elway, whoever was placed on the same Dolphin teams would the results been as good as Marino produced?

Aikman had a greatness around him and he was a great leader and very accurate, but he was not in the class Marino.

Think about the defenses/running backs/O-Lines Aikman, Montana, Elway had around them to carry the burden in big games.

This is what wins championships no matter how great your quarterback is.
The argument one player is not worthy of greatness above another because of the team result is not logical.
It is the greatest team game and players of greatness should not be penalized because of their teammates short comings.IMO

Troy Aikman played WITHIN our system and stats did not mean anything to Troy except the "W" column.

If Troy would have played in a system that ask for the QB to post BIG numbers, then there is ABSOLUTELY not doubt in my mind the Mr. HOFer and most accurate passer in NFL history would have posted big stats....but, the biggest stat Mr. Aikman owns (3 SB's) may not be that high.

So which would you perfer? Stats or Championships?

With all due respect, you weren't even born when Namath was playing.

I've seen both live and in person. Namath, IMO, had the better arm.

ZONERS:

I always thought Dan Marino had the quickest release I EVER seen, HOWEVER,

I believe ROMO's release is a little bit faster!

Thoughts? Am I missing the boat on this?

Dan's is the quickest ever. No one comes close. However, Romo's quick release combined with his incredible pocket awareness and mobility make me forget all about a Dan Marino. :D

where are you people getting this stuff from?

we were up 28-7 at the half...Aikman was nearly perfect that half (literally) and was knocked out on the first series of the 2nd half

Kosar had nothing to do with winning the game for us, other than QB'ing the 2nd half of a blowout win

sure he was...but Marino was somewhat of a selfish player who cared alot about his stats, and Aikman wasnt like that

Jimmy Johnson, Norv Turner, Bill Walsh and Mike Holmgren are just of the authorities on great passers who all agree Aikman could have shattered alot of passing records had Dallas played a little different style
