So I watched an old game from 2003. Monday Night game vs NYG in NY. Wild finish as Dallas gets a miracle 35-32 win.

Now the thing is that Quincy played a pretty good game other than a pick 6. I got to thinking about Quincy's short career, and it strikes me as a tragedy. They guy wasn't the greatest QB, but he wasn't the worst either. Of the multitude of spare QBs that have come through here between Aikman & Romo, Quincy was the best of the rest.

He even managed a 10-6 playoff appearance under Parcells.

I saw a few Qcar games live at Texas Stadium back then.

Then it all came crashing down for the guy. I never got the full story on the dope situation. All I can remember is that it was weed or maybe coke. I also believe Quincy did not get the same chance to atone for his transgression the way other players have been when they have done equal or worse.

I can't help but feel sorry for the guy. From starter for Dallas to never seen in the NFL again. Did he ever even get a look from another team in a training camp?

without the pipe he may have had a pretty decent career. O well.. the pipe got him.

I have no sympathy for guys who make millions that can't wait until their short NFL careers are over and their money is made before smoking all the ganja they want.

Make the money...

Smoke your ganja in the comfort of your mansion behind closed doors...

Sems pretty simple to me. I am in no way, shape, or form, condoning it. But if you're going to do it save that crap until you have managed to finish what you started in the NFL. Ricky Williams is another one... 10 cent head. He should get down on his knees and thank the higher power every night for allowing the NFL to give him yet another chance.

Quincy Carter only has himself to blame.

Not only did the Cowboys reach when they grabbed him in the second round, they also knew about his drug problems and he entered the league under the Substance Abuse Program to offer him some help and guidance.

The guy was just too paranoid and mentally weak to handle the massive responsibilities of an NFL Quarterback.

However, if Quincy Carter would have worked on his drug problem and mental toughness, he would have been an average to good player in the NFL, under the right system and proper coaching.

He could have definately carved a niche for himself as a respectable backup.

Great thread.

Can we have one for Chad Hutchinson and Drew Henson too? That would be super.

What else do we have to talk about? Season's over. You should know by now that we will get off the wall threads talking about anything and everything.

Wonderful. Be prepared for my thread about the unfortunate career of Reggie Collier next.

He started a few games for the Jets after he was released from the Cowboys. And Parcells brought him in for a tryout just this past summer in Miami.

First the Stealers win another Super Bowl and now a Quincy Carter thread.

What a week I'm having and it's only Tuesday.

Who's Quincy Carter? :eek:For years now Ive successfully wiped my memory of that unfortunate episode In Dallas Cowboys lore. UNTIL THIS THREAD CAME ALONG! :) Ohhhhhhhhhhhh no, its all coming back to me now. The low completion percentages. The 5 yard passes thrown at the feet of running backs. The interceptions without the touchdowns. The goofy way he would twiddle his little finger right before the snap to give the defense the jump on the snap count. THANX ALOT MAN!.....

I am never going to get the fascination with this guy. He was a mediocre talent at best. He's been gone 5 years now and hasn't been anywhere for about 4 years and people still wistfully wonder "what might have been?" For him it was real simple math.

Drugs > Football

And that is the truth.

He had moments, he was not a HOF type of player by any stretch.

I believe the real root of his problem was that he had no real confidence in himself or his ability. Oh, he had FALSE BRAVADO, lots of it too. But, false bravado is exactly what it says,...FALSE. Doesnt mean anything. It wasnt the dope that caused him to lack confidence, nope, other way around. He used the dope as a crutch to cope with his lack of confidence. Therefor he never got any better in life or as a football player.

I must say that I am proud of the fact I never took part in the great Hutch/ Carter debate. HATED them both as football players. All I saw them as were guys that were taking up time and GETTING IN THE WAY of us finding a REAL QB. Thats all they were. Was Quincy better than Hutch? Sure he was. SO WHAT. That doesnt mean anything. Not to me anyway. One bum may be a little better than another bum but in the end he's still a bum...:laugh2:
