It's a sad day when Jerry freakin' Jones is making any calls. Romo is here as long as Bill is here. Henson is a clipboard holder as long as Bill his here. Jerry should be getting a face lift or something, not making decisions.

I bet that's how Bill sees it too. Romo leaving at this point would be a bad bad mistake. Why can't people just give Romo his props? The guy went out and earned it.

Umm... that 'sad day' began in March 1994 after Jones and Jimmy Johnson parted company. He certainly defers a lot to Parcells, but he's still Jerry Jones. Always has been. Always will be.

Why is it so hard for people to believe that the team is not divided on QB?

I'm sorry but I just do not believe Jerry hates Romo any more than I think Bill hates Henson. I think they are excited about both prospects and have high hopes for them.

One has to be rated ahead of the other. That's the way the game is played. It could change all season. I'm not joking. I think it could change more than once.

The bottom line is until otherwise pried from his cold dead hands Drew Bledsoe is the QB. For better or for worse, for richer or for poorer, and all that jazz.

Who cares which one is the backup? I really mean that and I have a horse in this race. I don't care if Henson is #2 or #3 as long as the team believes he is making progress and everything I've read suggests they believe that about both of them. It's a win/win situation.

It's fine to have a favorite player for a position but there's too much grassy knoll and hate for the other guy going on here. Root for both of them, but be realistic. Bledsoe's the guy barring something really strange happening.

This is a post meant to stir the pot......

Read the posts..........not just on this thread. The good majority of the posters are giving Romo, "his props".

This will always baffle me. Just root for the players on the team. Hope that they all will pan out.....hope that they all will succeed.

What's wrong with that?

Good post. Wish it was that way, but too many agendas and chest thumping going on just so they can say in the end, "Told ya so!".

Pretty sad actually.

Probably so. I don't intend to join it. I never said a word about Q or Hutch when they were released and if my horse happens to come in first I will quietly go on posting about the team. If he stinks I'll be able to say it without being a hypocrite.

Not a thing Bizwah. They'll only be happy when those who disagreed with them genuflect.

In other words they won't be happy.

Hey Mike..

Like your signature. One of the greatest team players and saddest stories in the history of the team.

parcellswaterboy

Thanks.

I like making sigs that highlight the guys that did the dirty work but never got the credit. After I make my Mark Stepnowski sig, the 90s line will be finished.

No it's not. But how many times have people got on my case for noticing things about Bill's body language etc ...

This is the same thing, but it's the owner ... not the coach.

Trust me, if I wanted to "stir the pot" I could do it a lot better by bumping an old thread(s) and pointing out some things that were promised to me ....

How is saying that if Jerry is making calls it's a sad day "stirring the pot"?

I think most would agree that Parcells is leaps and bounds ahead of Jones as far as football knowledge.

The interesting thing is, I don't think Tuna's definition of a "bus driver" QB is what everyone thinks. Remember he told Madden 2 years ago, when asked how long it would take to turn the Cowboys around, he said, "it depends on how long it takes me to find a QB."

I thought that was an interesting "top of the list" item for a "bus driver" coach.

Cap'n, that bus driver quote has been used to attack Bill for so long it's absurd.

As tho he said it to thumb his nose at a fanbase long accustomed to quality QBs.

When in reality, he said it in a year in which his hands were tied as to quarterbacks..........it was the year he was beholden to evaluate Q and H.

I felt when he said it it was to hold out HOPE to us, not to crush it. In other words, in today's NFL, it is difficult to find an elite QB, and expensive if you do, but you CAN win without a "celebrity QB" if you build a bus good enough for him to drive to the ring with. He said this to a fanbase reeling thru post-Aikman years, convinced it was find the one gold needle in the haystack of Wrights, Stoerners, and Banks and all will be well.

Bill certainly was holding out more hope than THAT possibility.

He was also saying WITHOUT the bus, don't expect even a MANNING to make it. And that it may be easier to build a bus, then find a Manning.

If he had only known with what disdain the concept would have been received, I doubt he would have said it..but he was looking around the league at the REALITY of post salary cap, free agency NFL, not the past.

Then, look at his bus drivers over the years, a HOF bound if not 'celebrity' Simms, an elite, franchise-quality college QB in Bledsoe, a former Heismann in Vinny who was just ready to peak....no Marinos nor Farves, but no Dilfers either.

He was stuck with Q and H in Year One, had his hand forced in year two by Q and having to start his back up, but STILL brought in Henson as the possible franchise QB of the future and this year signed the best free agent QB available on the market.

"You just can't dial up 1-800 quarterback" is the bettr quote.

The ONE QB mistake I thought he made was not the low balling of the bus driver Delhomme (who wouldn't have developed as nicely here as with Henning, imo) but not forcing Jerry's hand over Leftwich.

Surely Bill 'owed' Jerry the year of evaluation on both his boys, and th rostr bneeds wer enormous, but a coach who flat out said you can't win til you get a QB should have made a more aggressive case with that pick, imo.

It wasn't like he didn't want to develop a young one (another lie repeated over and over)..he sure had to 'develop' something if he was dealing with Q and H.

Now Bill's made his bed with a 33 year old former elite star.

He's still the best thing available til Henson clicks.

But the 'bus driver' promise that a good team will get you there even if you lack a top QB fell on deaf ears. And ironically, has come to be viewed as some kid of arrogant taunt. Look at this egomaniac dismissing the Staubachs and Aikmans.

So dial one up! Can't we at least see with Henson how HARD it is to develop a
good QB?

No, Drew's journey , with its fits and starts, is teaching us nothing but that, uhh, "Bill hates him".

It's unfair Tuna is getting rapped..all because he was handcuffed with Q and H when he could have had Lefty.

Since that fatal error, he's done nothing but take the best he can get.

Nice post, but people who have this hindsight about Leftwich forget one thing, the butterfly effect it would cause.

We take Leftwich we have a glaring need at CB, we most likely need to draft a CB instead of trading down with Buffalo, so we might not get Jones at our pick and say goodbye to Spears.

We also have a lot more cap space tied up with our franchise QB, so which FA that we signed this year don't we have because the money was not there?

Add Letfwich and we lose Newman, Jones, Spears and one of Ferguson, Rivera or Henry.

Leftwich or no RB?

Leftwich or no 3-4?

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.:D

"Excuses?"

Oooookay.

An observer of Jerry Jones' history of making 'questionable' player decisions as an owner or general manager points out that fact and it's labeled an 'excuse'.

That's kinda funny. :)

Anyhoo, I've always been more of a realist in these issues and defer the player decisions to those who are actually involved in the decision-making process. Of course, I could try influencing Parcells or Jones with sigs of players dressed in questionable attire. ;)
