After it's all said and done , who will be remembered as the best "D" player for the Cowboys?

The hair on the back of my neck just stood up as I read those names and pictured them all on the field together.

Too Tall is in my top 5 all time of favorites. Lett will never get there. So Ware has a ton of work and at least 10 more years..."AS A COWBOY"...To even come close.

I would love Ware becoming one of the Dallas greats when all is said and done but it is too early to know that. As for Jones and Lett I liked them both (drug free lett that is) but I don't consider them even in the top 10 all time great defensive players in franchise history.

You don't see Too Tall in the top Ten ??

He redefined the position.

I think Too Tall was an excellent player but I also think we have had many excellent players on the Dallas defense. Not making my top 10 is not a knock on Too Tall it is more of a compliment to a great franchise that has had some great defensive players in our history.

I couldn't just now off the top of my head pick 10 before I got to him.

Through 2000, he was still #3 in tackles, #3 in sacks, #1 in fumbles and #1 in games played.

He was a force.

Too Tall is in my top 5 and I didn't even know those facts. I wonder what he is in knocked down pass's.

As I said I'm not knocking Jones I loved watching him and think of him highly as a player but I also feel the same about many others who have worn the star. My top 10 may not be like everyone elses but it is my top 10

You're comparing one of the biggest defensive ends in history with a DT who had a few good years and a few mediocre years, with a smallish DE/OLB.

You might as well compare Bill Bates, Herschel Walker and Roger Staubach.

Of the three, Ware will probably will get the most publicity. He is a tremendous athlete and he just may turn out to be Dallas' greatest defensive player when it is all said and done. Right now though, it is too early.

Leon Lett had the chance to be a Hall of Famer. Unfortunately, he let other activities get in his way.

Ed "Too Tall" Jones, of these three, gets my vote. For fourteen seasons, not only did he blind the view of quarterbacks on his side of the field, but he also played the run better than no other defensive lineman in Cowboys history. Yes, that includes Bob Lilly and Randy White.

1. Bob Lilly

2. Randy White

3. Ed Jones

4. Mel Renfro

5. Harvey Martin

Howley, Haley, Harris, Woodson, Pugh, Jordan, Waters, Henderson, Sanders, Walls, and Jeffcoat are all worthy of consideration.

Too Tall Jones was a beast, an absolute menace on the field. If he had played in another defense besidest the Flex he might have set the all time sack record. As it stands, none of his sacks made before 1982 are counted in the record books which is a complete farce.

His height was also a factor-- how many picks did he cause by jumping with outstretched arms? BTW, he was also a great run stuffer. We were blessed to have that guy on the team; Lett and Haley don't compare and Ware is looking at an extremely steep climb.
