"Too Tall", Lett or Ware?

Interesting question. Out of these 3, of course Too Tall is the best , and really meant the most to the organization. He changed the position.

Lett, I know there is alot of ill will towards him, but he had the quickest 1st step you would ever see from a DT. There is a reason they called him the Big Cat. He had a twitch at his size that few in the game have ever had. Only if.......oh well, I still loved to see him play.

Ware, well, he is the one that doesn't belong, honestly. Heck, this is his second year, he has a long way to go before he can be considered among the greats in Cowboy history. We have had some great players through here, and to say a second year guy with 9 lifetime sacks belongs in the sentence with these others is a little off.

Let's hope Ware can finish in the Ring of Honor, but right now, all we can do is hope.

Fair point, but I think you know what I meant.

The trouble is that you're the only member ever that has mentioned Lett as being a "strong" MVP candidate in '96 prior to the suspension.

Lilly, nough said

I thought Lilly and White.

Either one of those two would be better IMO.

Shoot most teams wouldn't even consider running to the right when Too-Tall was there. They often didn't even want to pass to that side because as often as not the pass would be knocked down at the line of scrimmage. Too bad they didn't keep those stats.

I think that comes under passes defended. I don't know what year they started keeping that stat.

I place Harvey Martin in that pool as well. HE didn't get into the HoF or the ring of Honor like Lilly and White but he was about as dominate at DE as anyone when he was in his prime. Playing next to White might have helped his game but I think it also cost him some of the credit he deserved. Much like playing next to Lilly cost Jethro Pugh.

For all of you young guys that didn't get to see Hollywood Henderson play, let me shed some light on him for you.

He was a great, All-Pro OLB, and wore #56. He was fast, quick, agile, and very athletic.

Got all of that? He was a great LB.

Are you ready for this, ... he returned kickoffs.

That's right, that is what kind of speed he had and the kind of an athlete he was.

Think about that.

How many LB'ers do you know that return kicks ?

His downfall was a destructive lifestyle of drugs, alcohol, and women.

I agree. Henderson worst enemy was himself. Had he been able to get his head on right he could have gone down as one of the best LB to play the game

I can understand the drugs and alcohol being destructive, but not the women. :D

Hollywood is the guy who played on drugs during Superbowl XIII against the Steelers. He was amazing, but had such a short career of only 5 years in Dallas. Could have been an all time great NFL player? At least he changed his life in some ways, won the lottery and used some of those winnings to help others.

He went to jail for having sex with an underage girl. He didn't know she was underage, but that's still against the law.

He has been sober for over 20 yrs, props to him for that.

An underage girl is not a woman, but again I was joking before. Problems are problems and Thomas had a few. He is lucky to be alive and free.

He hit rock bottom here in Houston playing with the Oilers. His drug problem had gotten out of control and was picked up by HPD sitting in the Astrodome parking lot after a game totally out of it and in possession of a weapon and later talked about using it against a teammate in Houston that he was at odds with.

I thought Henderson was decent but not an All-Pro type.

He was drafted in the first round.(1b) He made All-Pro in 1977.

He was way better than "decent".

That's not just my opinion.

I think Too Tall is getting waaay too much love in this thread. Was a good run stuffer and a terror knocking down passes, but I don't think he has any business keeping the company you guys are lumping him in with. Overall a very good player. Not a special player like a lot of the others being named.

George Andrie was probably a better DE.

I still think the guy was more "splash" than a consistent performer.

Quite frankly behind Martin, White, Pugh, Jones even someone like you could have been an All-Pro.

HOW DARE YOU MENTION WARE IN THE SAME SENTENCE AS THOSE TWO!

you ought to be slapped!

Well, he was speculating if Ware could have a career that was as impactful as either Jones or Lett. Sure he is nowhere near their class right now, but if he lives up to some hopeul expectations, he can be a great one.

I think Jones was great. He may not be one of the top ten defensive guys and that is because Dallas has had so many great players on that side of the ball. He ranks higher than Lett, in my opinion. Lett just did not do enough. He was a back up early and then also had the off the field problems. He was in Dallas for 10 years, but I don't think his impact was that great. He had some bright moments that teased at how good he could be, but he just was not a consistent, dominant force in Dallas.
