You're comparing one of the biggest defensive ends in history with a DT who had a few good years and a few mediocre years, with a smallish DE/OLB.

You might as well compare Bill Bates, Herschel Walker and Roger Staubach.

David.
That's why it's hard! If it was easy then "Joe Fan" could do it. I know they are very different and alot the same. It's up to you to say who will leave the biggest impact? Or does it stand on it's own merit and era?

After it's all said and done , who will be remembered as the best "D" player for the Cowboys?

I hope you mean out of those three as I can think of other Cowboys I would put above them.

Too Tall is in my top 5 all time of favorites. Lett will never get there. So Ware has a ton of work and at least 10 more years..."AS A COWBOY"...To even come close.

I couldn't have said it better.

Lett... people think he was the 2nd coming of Bob Lilly. Not even close. I think Lett's high in sacks were 5. He was a very good player for a couple years but that's about it.

Out of just those three choices? Might as well cut it down to Too Tall and Ware, cuz Lett isn't on Too Tall's level (and it's too early to tell with Ware).

Comparing a DE, DT, and LB makes no sense to me though.

The best defensive player in cowboys history is either Randy White or Bob Lilly.

I agree. Sad part is had Lett been able to stay clean I think he could have been a very special player. I think the guy had one of the quickest 1st steps off the ball and gave O-linemen hell. Evidently the game was not that important to Lett.

This really isn't even debateable for those who have been Cowboy fans as long as I have. Randy White, Cliff Harris, LeRoy Jordan and others have been outstanding, but no one measures up to Bob Lilly.

I believe he went to something like 11 pro-bowls (maybe 11 times All-pro) and was named to the NFL's all time team. Aside from that, those of us who are old enough to remember watching him know ......

I didn't mean the best in history, just the best for this group.:star:

Well in that case it would be Ed "Too Tall" Jones by a landslide. Lett had a lot of potential but he was nowhere near the force that Jones was.

As for Ware, let's let him play a few more years before trying to conjecture how good his career might be. Right now he has a long ways to go to come up to Ed Jones.

As for the all-time best defensive player for the Cowboys it was Bob Lilly without a doubt. He is still considered the greatest DT to ever play the game. As great as Randy White was he was still a full notch below Lilly.

Shoot most teams wouldn't even consider running to the right when Too-Tall was there. They often didn't even want to pass to that side because as often as not the pass would be knocked down at the line of scrimmage. Too bad they didn't keep those stats.

Well said. That pretty much sums up the "Leon Lett" story.

If Randy White is one of the top 15 DT's every to play the game then Bob Lilly is the top DT to ever play the game.
