"We didn't blitz that much"--Bill Parcells

What Ware's "Main" responsibility is is irrelevant.

Is it "Normal" for him to rush the passer?

Yes.

Therefore when he does it, it's not a blitz. It's just one of his "normal" responsibilities.

Your definition of a "blitz" is simplistic, and not entirely true. Although very close. But, as with most things, there are exceptions.

You're incorrect. Whenever one finds an exception to a definition, that definition is invalid.

I'm going to go ahead and disagree with you on this one.

My definition included the exception, therefore it is valid.

My definition is as follows:

Whenever someone rushes the passer who's job isn't normally to rush the passer, then it is a blitz.

Valid.

Darn. Thought I could have fooled you guys into thinking this thread got closed.

Shux. :p

It's valid, but also incomplete.

"I was just trying not to do anything dumb."

I wish Drew Bledsoe thought that way when he was in there.

Most "defintions" don't go into detail.

;)

If you want, I could go over what would be considered a blitz out of every defensive front ever used, but I do have a life so it might take me awhile to get around to it.

:D

How bout a bag of salted peanuts? Maybe unsalted?

I've got a "Bag" of ... well removed the "ed" from salted and add a "y" and remove the pea... you get the point.

Talk about a brain teaser :banghead: Nah I got the point. Quite creative lol.

I just got this creepy IM from a "cowboys fan" and then he signed off.

Any of you just IM me lol :p

Maybe I should remove my AIM name from my profile haha.

10 pages and still no response. Wow. Does that mean he can call someone out, but doesn't want to be called out?

Oh, Rack's definition of a blitz is pretty much right on the money. If you dropped 10 guys into coverage and rushed with a DB it would be a blitz. A stupid one, but still a blitz.

Yeah cause the DB is in a standing position :laugh2:

Eh, I disagree. It wouldn't be a blitz. A blitz is a blitz because of the excessive number of pass rushers. One pass-rusher by definition cannot be a blitz.

The word stems from blitzkrieg. A one-man pass rush cannot be a blitz. Otherwise why would it be a "blitz" in the non-football sense of the word?

I knew someone would get hung up on the number. From dictionary.com

Football. A sudden charge upon the quarterback by one or more of the linebackers or defensive backs when the ball is snapped. Also called red-dog.

Now I know Ware in technically a LB but he lines up like a d-linemen in situations (3 point stance and then fires off rushing the QB - not a blitz). BUT when his is in a 2 point stance he is more of a LB, therefore if he rushes from this position, he blitzes.

So going back to what I have been saying - Anyone in a 2 point stance who rushes the line of scrimmage is a blitzer turning our defense into a "blitz."
