One hell of a cap hit to release him and makes a statement about overpaying running backs these days.

According to Schefter, the team spent weeks trying to trade him and cut the running back before they would’ve had to pay him $10.5 million at 4 p.m. EST today. Gurley signed a 4 year, $60 million contract extension with the Rams on July 24, 2018.

By releasing Gurley before June 1, the Rams would have $20.15 million in dead money, according to overthecap.com. But the Rams would save about $10 million over the next two years if he was not on the roster.

Zeke looks pretty smart now!!! Lol!! Teams don't give a crap about players. Get your money Dak?

This is so flawed though. Those running backs weren’t elite except Gurley.
What's flawed about it? None of those RB's production warranted their salary. Regardless of talent level.

That's nonsense, Gurley has bad knees and was never going to live up to his outrageous contract. Zeke is as healthy as a horse and he has the power of one. I know many folks don't like his price tag either but the legalese in his contract is really Cowboys friendly. Zeke is worth his contract and I believe Mike McCarthy will see to it that he is used correctly. Apples and oranges, IMO.
I never said why. It could be many factors. At some point though, the Cowboys are going to have to dump this guy and his contract.

Rams are proving to us THEY MADE MASSIVE MISTAKES THE LAST 3 YEARS. Goff in my opinion, will be proven to be another one in a year from now. He;s Ty Detmer with a slightly better arm. Last year proved my point.

Exactly, this is a lot more about paying Goff 36 Million this year and guys like Brandin Cooks 17 Million.

Zeke's contract is ten times more team-friendly than Gurley's, its funny how many fans never figured that out.

You don't have to. Saying it at all is bad enough. Anyway, the Cowboys aren't going to have to dump him after year 1 unless he suffers a serious injury where he can't be effective anymore. You don't know what you are talking about.

NOPE, they won't give Zeke the Emmitt Smith treatment by watching him finish his career wearing another team's jersey. He is a life long Cowboy.

You. Never. Pay. RBs.

Say it with me..

If it was up to some on this board they wouldn’t pay any of our best players. Fans didn’t want to pay Zeke. They don’t want to pay Amari and they don’t want to pay Dak. Every time we lock up one of our best players they complain we got screwed.

Zeke hasn't even proven to be good. Just healthy and able to carry massive load...for now.

The guy isn't efficient.
I disliked signing Zeke as much as anyone, but he's extremely efficient and I don't see how anyone could think otherwise. Looking at Football Outsiders, he was easily the top RB in the league last year by DYAR and even with that load, he was the 4th-most efficient RB in the league by DVOA and in success rate. The guys ahead of him in efficiency had 100+ fewer carries than he had. He was actually pretty efficient as a receiver this past season as well: 18th most efficient in the league, which doesn't sound great, but a bunch of the guys in front of him are specialists.

Where did we make a mistake? Zeke had over 1300 yards last season with 12 TD’s. Gurley got hurt after he signed his extension and was never the same.

But that doesn’t support the whole “Cowboys are stupid” slant!
