This requires Marinelli to alter his philosophy with front 4 as well. You need a BIG 1 tech that's really eat up blockers and still cause disruption. If you have two S's who are more coverage guys then you better make sure you clog up the lines up front and let your LB's makes majorities of tackles as the back end S's aren't going to be very physical. If a big back breakthrough the front 7 then your back end guys are in trouble.

Ramsey and Jones are very good to great coverage guys, but I'd also trust either of them to make a tackle over Church or Wilcox. Being good at coverage doesn't mean you don't support the run or can't tackle.

I think what many may be missing is that the truly great CBs don't always blanket the receiver...that certainly wasn't Deon's style. He gave room because he knew he could get there for the int before the ball did.

I haven't seen a draft site yet or heard an article written by a gm that doesn't praise Ramsey for being the best CB in the draft and a very special athlete who studies film and takes football very seriously.

Bosa, Jack, Ramsey, Goff.....I'll be satisfied with any of these guys, Even Tunsil. But I don't want us dipping beyond these top players without a trade down.

If they draft him and play both him and Jones at Safety Ill be pissed

You cant draft two safeties in the first round back to back and expect to have a rounded team

I think those are the top 5 players in this draft. I expect the Browns will take Goff. Tunsil will probably go to Titans or SD. I think at 4 our pick will be Bosa, Jack or Ramsey. I prefer Bosa or Jack in this scenario because Ramsey is a talent but not a true CB or S.

Straight up, Ramsey grades out slightly higher than did Jones last season.

As of now my top 5 are

1. Tunsil

2. Jaylon Smith

3 Ramsey

4. Wentz

5. Spence

I know that is not the conventional list you will see but I think these 5 currently have the most upside.

Until we know more about Smith's rehab, I couldn't rank him in the Top 5. He didn't have your run of the mill ACL injury. His injury was much worse although from reports, the surgery was a complete success.

My interest in him is as a safety, not a corner.

But what I think is meaningless. I'd also like to see Dallas ditch the traditional FS/SS looks and have two guys back there - Jones and Ramsey - that can work interchangeably. But we know that won't happen under Marinelli.

Do teams do that?

I really have no idea where this draft is going. It really comes down to what our mindset is going into the draft. If we were in the mindset of building for the future and having insurance for our offensive and defensive leaders (Romo and Lee) then we could go Wentz/Goff or Jack (even Smith). I have a feeling we're in the mindset of winning now and taking on chances on Romo and Lee staying healthy. In that case, we can get a stud DB at 4 and a stud DT at 34 and fill the two biggest holes on our defense.

If you judge him solely as a corner, he is not the best corner.

The only way he scores points is if you look at him like Byron Jones.

Little of this, little of that. Hard to make an impact that way.

That is not top 5.

If the idea is to "win now", taking this player is not going to accomplish that goal.

If we go into the draft with a win now mentality, chances we wont win now. Evem the two best defensive players in the NFL, JJ Watt and Khalil Mack were no but mot spectacular as rookies. Realistic hopes for a rookie D that players production would be 7 sacks or 3 picks. Thats not pushing us to the top. And by the time they hit stride, it will likely be too late

Could you link some articles calling him the best corner in the draft? I have read proclamations he might be the best DB, but most of what I read has projected him back to safety.

Its not just him, its any defensive player. People expect the outliers like Donald, Miller or Aldon Smith. That production is uncommon even for a top 5 pick. Even in the top you can only really expect a decent rookie starter or even a rotational player. It takes more time for players to grow into a role then people are assuming. When you pick in the draft to win now, you do assuming the player is an instant pro bowler. Odds are heavily against you

That is it. You nailed it.

Pretty much any defender in this draft is going to have a learning curve.

If someone says the idea is the "win now" and then suggest drafting Ramsey or Jack, it tells me they really don't get it.

If the idea is to "win now", those people should be suggesting Bosa or Elliott, two of the safer players that could be productive right away.

I think this is who they like as well.
I think all of us who are championing a QB or Championing Jack will be sitting there when they call the name Ramsey and the chat room and board goes crazy.

I want jack but if we take Ramsey that is fine. Guys are getting caught up taking a certain position when we can use help at every level. If Ramsey is rated the highest take him. I'm fine with that, we need talent and at 4 we will get one

I think the only player in this draft that translates into more 2016 wins if we had him VS didnt have him is Elliott. I would put a paycheck on him running for 1,400 yards as a rookie. But are you dropping the #4 on Elliott

Plenty of rookies contribute right away. Jones had a great season. Sure the is a learning curve but jack can come in day one and cover. Lee will have him in the right spots. Ramsey can come in and cover but there isn't a player in the draft that you can say will be all pro day one.

Elliot or a running back yes but would you trust blitz pickup?

If the idea is to "win now", you roll the dice.

I don't think this team is built to win now, or in the immediate future. I am looking to build the foundation for losing Romo, but since that might not happen and you are asking me to go the microwave approach, I take Elliott.

I think Bosa is the most capable of making an impact as a defender, but then again, the fit. But if that is the intent, you go that route.

Again, if the idea is to "win now", did Jones do much that made us any closer to winning games? No. He played well and is looking to be a great pick.

Ramsey would give you Jones plus, at best.

As for Elliott, he is getting praise as one of the best PB prospects in years, so yes.
