I thought Randle looked better this week but that's not saying much. If folks want some evidence of what the team feels about our RBBC, look no further than 1st and goal at the 1 after the Escobar catch and run (which was a TD). Most teams would pound the ball into the end zone and it's what we did last season. After a first down run, we go pass happy. Same on 3rd and short in the game. We need to get better running the ball and better fast now that Romo is out.

I'm not PRO Randle in any way, but he was met in the backfield on several occasions & made something out of nothing with some good hard runs. I thought he ran the ball well, even if the stats say otherwise. The line had a rough game

Thanks for the post. While JRan is not everyone's DC model citizen, he was definitely the best rb on the field in the linc. He's no ECampbell but he's protecting our field position, the ball and taking what the D is giving.

Plus he's not coughing it up.... Lucky one with Giants, but nice work yesterday

Last week he looked tentative to me.
This week he continually made something out of nothing. I don't care about his stats. He was very good today. Murray would not have done better.

some of his best plays were turning what could have potentially been a negative run to 3 yards.

If we can get 80-90 per game by committe I am right with that. We just half to keep up the pretense of a running game -- now mores than evers -- while tony is healing.
Get well soon Tonny.

do you have an agenda that precludes you from recognizing how bad the OL is playng compared to last year?

You consider giving honest opinions as having an agenda? One thing I've learned with the Cowboys if you pump the team up or anything about the team it ends up disappointing. FANS and even Jerry seemed convinced that just about any back could run behind the OL that some here were comparing to the Great Wall of Dallas. So far they've been wrong not only have the backs not produced but our OL helped get Romo knocked out for maybe 7 games or more. Murray who ran great last season helped make the OL look good and vise versa. There was a cohesiveness between the OL and Murray and we haven't had that this season with our current group of backs.

Our OL was healthy last preseason and went into week 1 as a cohesive unit, and Romo came in rusty. this year Romo came in sharp, but the OL missed a bunch of time in preseason and it shows.

Our running game woes are due to OL playing badly, not the backs running badly. I think it requires eiother an agenda, or ignorance about the game itself to claim anything else

I agree. But I still think the Cowboys need to get C-Mike out there. I'm about done with watching DMac get tackled by his shoe strings.

I thought Joe did great. I think our run game will be fine. Would be nice to be able to run in the 4th Q like we did last year after 3 Q of beating up the Defense. So far, we have been behind in the score or behind the chains due to penalties. Once we get the kinks worked out and can get back to being able to run in the 3rd and 4th Q, his numbers will greatly improve.

I think DMC and Dunbar could be used in the passing game more as flankers and out of the backfield maybe a 3 RB set with 1 or 2 split out wide

The OL didn't play much last preseason none of the starters play much in preseason. Martin was a rookie last season and had an All Pro year and looked awful yesterday. What's changed between last season and this season is the RB situation. The current backs the Cowboys have are average and aren't very good in tight spaces running between the tackles. There simply hasn't been any cohesiveness with the backs and our OL. I also think all the hype the OL has received since last season has gone to their heads. As soon as Collins was signed he said this OL will be the greatest OL ever. The OL entered the season full of itself with the team banking on their talent rather than the talent of the backs and it helped cost us Romo. He was having to do too much due to the lack of running game and it put his health more at risk. With 10 minutes to go in the 3rd quarter he was in the process of attempting his 28th pass. He was on pace to put the ball up over 40 times in back to back weeks while averaging only 29 attempts last season.

My gripe with the group of runners we have is there's no short-yardage guy. That keeps us from giving a run look in 3rd & 2 or 3 situations. With Romo, we were going empty and it worked out. I'm not so sure that'll work now. We may have to activate CMike just to help that, but there's not space for a 4th RB on gameday. Heck, half the people on the board are cutting him to bring up our new QB.

There's a fundamental flaw in our coaching the still exists too. Our offensive brain trust refuses to run in anything over 3rd and 1. For all of the praise they deserve, they're still too pass happy and way too quick to go back to throwing it too much.

We need the running game to get better. I mean, Weeden is no Romo and I don't think you want to count on him throwing the ball especially since our run game will need to gain that respect or the next 8 weeks will be a long one for the qb we put back there. This is the main reason why I don't believe you can stick just anyone behind a good line. When you put a mediocre qb and a mediocore rb back there, who do you count on? Yes some teams have rbs (like Randle) that can get you close to 4 ypc but our team seems to be missing something. The whole QB RB OL cohesiveness seems out of wack this year.

We cannot be stopped in the red zone and now more than ever count on our backup qb to throw the ball and abandon the run game because our RBs havent shown the ability to get to the endzone. We need to use the clock, win hard fought yards, and also more long runs. That is the best way we can help our offense these next 8 weeks.

So now it's our OL that is the problem. I don't know what it will take for people to admit how average Randle and McFadden are.

They are plain Jane, cookie cutter, free in a box Cracker Jacks RBs. Randle is getting credit for making some defenders miss like that isn't the job of every RB in the world.

So if the OL can open huge holes we will see how great Randle is. Got it.

When you don't have a solid runner it can expose your OL to a certain degree because backs can make an OL look good at times. Once a back breaks the line of scrimmage it's all on the back from there. Even behind the line of scrimmage they have to recognize things and use their vision and instincts to make plays.

That's the thing. It was only his second start.

Look at Adrian Peterson last week.

It's different from week to week.

Look at Demarco vs Randle lol

Peterson missed almost an entire season and I said months ago when many wanted to trade for him that I wasn't so sure he wasn't already showing signs of decline. His last couple of games with the Vikings before he was suspended didn't look very good. At 31 and a year away from the game may be catching up with him. Had Jerry gave up the farm for him there would be a lot of concern right now. As for Murray in Philly their offense is screwed up he's going to have a tough time producing for them. They took him away from the Cowboys that's the only way it's appears he'll benefit them. No excuse for Randle not looking good he hasn't been away from the game and isn't playing on a different team he's just not a feature back.

That's great. Thanks.

But my point was... Any given week a RB can be shut down.
