Things sure went south in a hurry with the situation in TB. At least the headline didn't say 'former Dallas Cowboy' like I expected.

Randy Gregory Expected To Retire
by Adam La Rose
August 22nd, 2024

Entering the NFL as a Cowboys second-rounder, Gregory’s most productive season came with Dallas in 2018 (six sacks). The early portion of his career was marred by suspensions, though, and four substance abuse bans left him sidelined for the 2017 and ’19 campaigns. A deal seemed to be in place to remain with the Cowboys in 2022, but that agreement was soon replaced the Broncos one which included the same terms.

If Gregory, 31, does indeed hang up his cleats he will depart the league with 78 combined regular and postseason games to his name. His career earnings check in at roughly $33MM. It would come as a surprise if teams showed interest in him as a free agent given the nature of his Buccaneers exit.

Watched him since his Nebraska days and this dude had all the tools to be one of the great ones, but couldn't get out of his own way and never worked the way he should have.

I hope he finds some sort of peace/meaning for his life in retirement. He's had pretty well documented struggles with mental health.

A lot of these dudes would be better off if the bulk of their earnings were deferred in a trust until they were like 35. Even if they ruined their career, got injured, whatever, maybe they would have matured a little by that time so they might be financially secure.

Jerry got lucky when Gregory threw a fit and took his talents elsewhere . Jerry was ready to back up the brinks truck .
Might be the saddest story of a player....who had all world talent....glimpses of brilliance...yet couldn't ever put it all together. What a waste of Lord given ability..

Wasted potential
Sad when you have a guy like Sean Lee whose body just would not cooperate gets pushed out but a guy like Gregory stays mostly healthy and isn't as into the job but keeps getting more opportunities

Not really. Most were tired of his act.
he was coming off his best season of his career and plenty are eager to (understandably btw) bash every jerry move.
i argued incessantly with people about it.
you can use the search feature here and on google to find the various posts/tweets.

but yes this board and twitter are not real life and many people were over his antics and just didn't discuss him at all.

amari was obviously on another level. fans and media hated that move.

There's a long list of those types in the NFL right now it happens dudes waste their career we've seen a few come through here like purple drank man... Imagine if Greg Hardy just could have got over his addictions and played a little longer the man was a beast and wasted his career
