I am sorry but the guy is 30 and has never had a quality season. His career is almost at an end and the odds of him ever producing for an entire season do not go up as the years go by. They only ever go down.
No argument there, my whole argument was around when he’s been on the field. His 2021 numbers were very good for starting 11 games. Even his 2022 numbers were good for playing less than 200 snaps. He’s not a parson, watt or bosa, but he’s an ideal #2 pass rusher for a team, and paid like one. I think the reason you don’t pay him has more to do with his inability to play a full year rather than his talent level though.

He's not ideal at all. You never know when he can play. He's the polar opposite of ideal.

I literally started my comment with "my whole argument is around when he's been on the field". I ended my comment with "the reason you don't pay him has to do with his inability to play a full year rather than his talent level"

I agree with you, but I'm talking strictly talent level. He's the perfect guy to put opposite a Micah Parsons. He's not ever going to be the Parsons/Watt/Bosa who you double or chip every play and still racks up 10+ sacks year after year.

Gregory got paid like a secondary rusher, which he is from a talent perspective. The Broncos basically gave him a two year deal as he only got $28M guaranteed. They don't owe him anything after 2023 (unless they restructure), and can save $10M against the cap by releasing him.

OK, so he's ideal w/o the drug issues and mental issues and injury issues.

Man, I'm biased because I just don't like him, I admit it!!!!!!!!

No issue with that either. The guy gave us nothing but disappointment for years, then when he does start to turn the corner in his final season with the Cowboys he basically sealed our fate with a boneheaded penalty in the playoffs. I can't exactly say I was saddened when he left for Denver.

Don't feel too bad -- I spoke well of Gregory much longer than I should have.
If it's any consolation, we had plenty of company, though. He's a dummy. ;)
The guy has tremendous talent and many defended him hoping that he would put it all together.

Same thing with David Irving

He got nothing right.

He tried to sign him for like $70 million. The only thing that saved him was that Gregory got pissy over contract language.

We got lucky, plain and simple.
Ok, but give the Cowboys credit for not removing that added contract language. No luck involved.

Can we all agree that Jerry got it right with "El Paso"...? We were going to pay the man top edge rushing dollar but only if he conformed to our rules and didn't get in trouble and he balked...
Never have i hated a Cowboys player who left as much as Gregory. Not since Ken Norton Jr.
