Ranking the QB's

When did Sid Luckman play? 80 years ago? More? And they had squat since?

I know finding QB's isn't easy. That isn't my point. Even blind luck will get you a good QB more than once a century. Tony Romo and Dak Prescott are proof of this

You just said it’s not that hard finding a QB and now you’re pointing out Sid Luckman who’s the only good QB the Bears have had in 80 years. lol From what I’ve seen of Justin Fields he may not be the answer in Chicago either. Go tell Washington, Miami and Cleveland it’s not that hard finding a QB. Washington has burned 5 first round picks the past two decades on QBs and two of those picks were in the top 5. They mortgaged the farm to move up for RG3 and he went bust. The best QB they’ve had in years was Kirk Cousins who they got with a fourth round pick. They didn’t want to pay him so they allowed him to walk and ended up burning another first round pick on Dwayne Haskins who lasted only 2 seasons in Washington. He was such a dud he’s not even in the league anymore. Now Washington is stuck going from one castoff to another castoff. As for blind luck finding a QB the Cowboys have been very fortunate! We only suffered for 5 years until we found Romo. We caught a huge break with Dak coming along when Romo was at the end.

Look at Fouts attempts and completion %, he simply threw the hell out of the ball and who wouldn't with all those receivers. But....a lot of INT's a low comp% and passer rating.

Rivers had far more great seasons than Fouts had.

The game was different when Fouts played. I gave you my opinion.

The game was different when Fouts played but you obviously weren’t watching football back then but I was. I gave you my opinion and we disagree.

Saw Fouts play at Oregon, yep, great QB but he didn't have the arm that Rivers had. And the stats back that up.

Saw Mel Renfro in his running back days as an Oregon Duck, seen some football my man.

Go ahead talk me into it.
its the comebacks.
at home.
on the road.
his team was never out of it.
and in my opinion...he's the greatest competitor at the most important position...EVER.
5 super bowl appearances...2 world titles.
and the conductor of the greatest play of all-time.
STAUBACH.

Have you actually looked at Brady's numbers? They are right there with anyones. And he has years and years of great years, there is no way around it he is a great QB. He proved how great he is last season.

Roger Staubach vs Troy Aikman, are you familiar with Staubachs numbers or lack of them?

you brought up Don Hutsons era. I think the 70s were a different era as well compared to Aikmans 90s era. I think if Landry would have commited to Staubach early on instead of playing Craig Morton half the time, Staubach wouid have had even better numbers than he did.

I am not saying Brady is not a great QB. His numbers do support that.

You’re 72 so I guess you have. I think Dan Fouts was better. He was a first ballot Hall of Famer. Rivers numbers will likely get him in the Hall of Fame but some question if he was good enough for the Hall of Fame.

I think Sammy Baugh gets the nod over Sonny Jurgenson. Also agree with Fouts over Rivers.

I can see that and came real close to having Baugh there, but.....Jurgenson was great and in the Hall of Fame.

Another...but....if I could I would put Baugh there Sure ya know he could punt today, great great punter.

Dan Fouts was the AFC Romo.

As good as guys such as Sammy Baugh, Otto Graham, and Johnny Unitas appeared to be on film. I have a hard time assessing any NFL player from the race restricted era. My 12 year old nephew is more athletic than many of the men who played from that watered down era.

Totally agree about Stuabachs numbers, Yep, should be better if done right. Staubach was great but so was Aikman.

Your 12 year is better than....

Staubach was in four Super Bowl appearances. Not five.

Sigh. Let me try again.

Its it hard to find a QB? Yes. Should it take 80 years to find one? No

Get it?

I get all that but saw far more great NFL seasons out of Rivers than I did Fouts. Yes Fouts was great but only had three really great seasons, while Rives had at least 10ish.

Rivers did possess one of the great arms.

In my opinion, you cannot actually compare quarterbacks from different generations. The best way to do this would be to compare their impact to their generation.

For example, Which quarterback had more of an impact on their generation, Roger Staubach or Troy Aikman?

Well, which quarterback was feared more in the 4th quarter of tight games? Which quarterback was ranked higher among their peers, other quarterbacks that played in the same time period? Which quarterback contributed the most to their team's success?

I'm not going to answer that, I only want to point out that if you use that criteria it would be more fair due to the evolution of the game favoring the modern quarterbacks. Roger Staubach played in the time before "in the grasp" or "helmet rule"', etc.

Despite Rivers numbers some don’t think he was a Hall of Fame QB. Everyone has an opinion I’ve given mine and you given yours.

It shouldn’t take 80 years but the Bears have won a majority of their games with defense. They had one of the all-time great teams which was led by an average QB. However their defense was the greatest ever. Those teams probably would’ve won a lot more had they had a great QB. Even though the rules have helped QBs the position is becoming harder to play because so much is put on the shoulders of a QB. This is why they make so much money. You can’t just win with defense these days.

Well there he sits at number five al time with 421 TD passes, Fouts wy back there at number 21 with 254,
There is Rivers at number five again with over 63, 000 yards, Fouts way back there at number 18 with less thn 44,000.

Neither won a SB or could run and Fouts did have the better receivers but inferior numbers, I know......the rules.

Rivers had a Hall of Fame career if Joe Namath did.

You’re still stuck comparing the numbers of QBs 40+ years ago with todays QBs.
