Rant About Refs

The replacement refs have done much better than I expected.

Clay Matthews definitely hit the QB late. Good call.

Jason Hatcher definitely got his hands into the QBs face. Good call. I don't really like the rule, but it was a good call based on the rule.

I like that the replacement refs don't appear to have a bias.

In the Cowboys/Giants game, the replacement refs allowed a lot of holding by both OLines. I'm ok with this, because in the past, the refs would allow blatant holding on D.Ware but call holding on the Dallas OLine for minor issues.

The new officials don't know the rules and otherwise are awful. The old officials know the rules but are still awful. Until the NFL moves the bulk of officiating up to the booth where they can see what TV viewers see, it will continue to be awful. There is absolutely no reason that millions of people should see something clearly happen on the field while the officials stand there looking dumb, either making no call or the wrong call.

I don't think they should move the 'bulk' of the officials up top, but I do think it would be useful to have one (perhaps the replay official) who could relay information down to the field when he sees an obvious officiating mistake. The communication is certainly available to do so. I can see a few issues that might arise, and the head referee would still need to be on the field and in charge of final decisions. But, it should be at least looked into.

these guys have actually been doing better than i expected. each week they will get better as well.

yeah. There is reason to hope they will get better

There was no hope for that with the regular refs

My favorite was the one Sunday Night where the ref called out a "before the snap, false start" penalty and then said the defense declined it.

I really love the fact that NFL Football is back because it's the best sport/league in America, but these replacement refs are a freaking joke. They are a disgrace to the game of football. They are so incompetent it's amazing. They have single handily ruined the game of football and made it far less enjoyable.

They sucked in the first game of the season on Wednesday night and somehow someway they have defied the odds and gotten even worse. The roughing the passer on Hatcher was a flat out terrible call on Wednesday Night, but the one called in today's Green Bay/San Francisco game may have even be worse. I'm absolute sick of quarterbacks being babied. This is football. How can you tell a guy he can't play physical? Most of these guys know no other way than going all out and hitting the crap out of their opponent? I really hope this lockout ends between the NFL and the real refs because we really need them. These clowns reffing the games are high school level officials maybe even worse.

/rant.

I thought they refs were horrible in the Cowboys Giants game, but that is because I am a Cowboy Homer and my team had 13 penalties. I saw a couple of blown calls on Sunday, but nothing to out of the norm. What games did you watch?

Reading through this thread it appears that you are the only person with the opinion the refs are bad, so you are obviously spot on.

The 49ers-Packers game is the 1st game of this NFL season where I felt the replacement refs completely and utterly sucked. I saw missed/blown calls here an there in other games including the Cowboys-Giants game but there were too many errors to even count in the Niners game.

The only positive, if there is any, is the ref errors seems to have been fairly evenly distributed against both teams.

Still, it was ugly.

The green bay/san fran game was full of blown calls. The "taking off the helmet" penalty and the roughing on clay were very bad to name a few.
Anyone catch the "timeout" scandal in arizona-seattle game? That is just embarrassing...

The NFL needs to get its **** together and bring back the pros.

Don Corleone;4719043 said:
The problem is that they are making fundamental errors. Most fans know that an injury inside of 2 minutes would result in a timeout for Seattle. The refs have been abysmal.

Major screw up in the Washington/NO game where pass interference was called where there was NONE giving Washington the ball on the 1 yard line in what should've been a punting situation.

So many uncalled holds in our game in NY that it defies explanation.

The gift TD on the punt return where the obvious block in the back against the San Fran defender was picked up.

An extra time out was given in the Seattle/Arizona game.

Officiating has been worse than usual.

I caught parts of most of the games but didn't see anything outragous except for maybe the 4th timeout thing in the SEA/ARI game and the no-call block in the back in the SF/GB game.

Just remember: the regular officials make mistakes, sometimes BIG mistakes, too. I'm sure Chargers fans will agree

I got some cherry's that need to be picked and you would be perfect for it.

You forgot it was a false start penalty that the refs didn't blow their whistles loud enough or run in to wave the play off for and rothlisberger got lit up on a corner blitz because the player never heard the whistle or knew there was a dead ball foul.

Not just him. I share Cowboys & Lakers Fan's opinion as well.

Only if you pay me. ;)

Lol, well lets just see how they do next week.....if the improve then there should be no problem. If they decline or continue like they are then you have a problem.

As it stand the improved tremendously since pre-season IMO.....so lets give them so time before we get pitchforks and call for there head
