Rate Jerry as Owner/GM on a scale of 1 to 10

That is a tough one, he isn't a Daniel Snyder but he has also created a culture that is not all about winning football games that can't be overlooked.

He does well in the early rounds of the draft and is willing to bring in quality players but at the same time, he has no clue how to build a winning roster.

I would probably say a 6.

Guess you don't consider round 2 early rounds?

At the end of the day is it that important how rich the team is to you compared to actually winning? Does topping the Forbes list every year really mean anything to anyone who isn't in the Jones family? The Buccaneers & Chiefs aren't worth in half of what the Cowboys are but have won Super Bowls within the last 3 years. The Bengals are the 2nd least valuable team but have come far closer to winning a Super Bowl this century and are far more closer to winning one before us again.

And I've said it once and I'll say it again, Jerry hardly made the Cowboys as big as they are. They were known as "America's Team" well before Jerry came and are the only team in the 4th biggest city in the country, The Cowboys would still be loaded even if Jerry never brought us.

I had to check the name on this post because I thought that I posted it. Lol. Been saying it for years also, the Cowboys were the team that every network wanted on primetime even back in the 70s and 80s before JJ bought the team. As the league has grown so has the Cowboys brand, that would have happened with or without JJ.

Jerry as an owner would get a 10, except for 1 decision an owner has to make. He should have fired himself as a GM. Instead he hired his son to help him screw up the team. So for that alone he gets a 5. Then there is his performance as a GM. I give him credit for improving the drafting process. If you think about where they were in the Quincy Carter days compared to recent draft it is a remarkable improvement. But they haven't even sniffed another Super Bowl in 26 years so there must be something wrong with the operation. I think it is there stubbornness on free agency. For that I have to drop his grade from 5 to 2.5.

So my overall grade for Jerry is a 2.5.

Let's bring some actual truth into the discussion here. The Cowboys weren't just way layed by the Jerry/Jimmy break up, they were stalked by the San Francisco 49'ers.

San Francisco spent cash for Deion Sanders and Ken Norton, Jr. to build their defense up to challenge the Dallas offense.

In the 1994 NFC Championship Game, early defensive turn-overs put the Cowboys at a very strong disadvantage that was not quite overcome.

No, this wasn't the fault the bumbling of Switzer or a stupidity of Jerry.

Match a defense aimed at Dallas with a very game Steve Young, who's sites were upon earning his own respect.

Dallas adjusted as well, the following season...1995, and came back.

No, it wasn't Jerry bumbling along without Jimmy...

Not stubbornness, worse than that, much worse. Utter and complete ineptitude.

Think about this:

1. Huge salary for a #2 CB in Carr
2. Signed a 3-4 DE and stuck him at NT and were shocked when he stunk there. Cedric Thornton.
3. Signed two guys for DT who were terrible there the previous year in McCoy and Poe.
4. Signed a CB who couldn't guard a sloth. What was that dude's name? Was terrible in coverage w his entire career.


And that's not all. Head cases, druggies, injury prone, stiff hips, too slow, you name it Jerry has tried the stupidest things. It's because he does not comprehend NFL football, which he has made abundantly clear w/ the slightest bit of research.

Players Jerry let walk right after he and Jimmy parted ways: Casillas, Jimmie Jones, Norton, Gogan, Gesek, and Cornish. It was Jerry.

The team played uninspired and quite stupid vs the 49ers. Switzer.

Awfully naive to think it wasn't.

The biggest problem with Jerry as GM is he doesn’t do it full time. He depends on a team of personnel to collectively be the GM . That approach has not worked in 26 years and he refuses to change it.

The only thing us fans should judge owners by is championships because that’s the only thing that matters to us. Since the jimmy era he’s been a total failure, the worst in the NFL in that period and maybe the worst in the history of this league.
