I watched a couple of old movies yesterday.

It was my first viewing of My Cousin Vinny, which I thought was hilarious.

8.5/10

Then I re-watched Gangs of New York and just came away unimpressed. It's the same feeling that I had after watching The Departed and Raging Bull, decent but could have been done better. I think that Scorcesse is a little overrated.

6.5/10

I agree with that, though, The Departed was certainly better than most of his work. Gangs of New York I thought was really stupid actually, especially the ending. I'd give it a 3/10, whereas The Departed I'd probably give a 7.5/10 and give it props for the way things went at the end.

I saw Inglorious Basterds with the lady last night. I'd rate it a 5 of 5 stars. It has to be on my top 10 list of movies all time. It's that great--a must see. Quentin Terrantino is finally back on top of his game. I'd say this is his best flick ever.

I'm anxious to see that. Been too busy to hit the theater though.

I like it a lot, but it wasn't as good as Kill Bill 2 so I wouldn't say hes "back" -- I'd say he never left.

The Final Destination 3d - 4/10

The 3D part was cool but it had to be THE worst acting in I've ever seen. Some of the deaths were pretty sweet though.

If he's back, it's from the intentional detour to Campyville with "Death Proof", which was a disappointment to me.

I enjoyed Basterds, but not nearly as much as many others. I could have used 10x more of Pitt's character.

My QT ranking:

1) Reservoir Dogs
2) Pulp Fiction
3) Kill Bill 1
4) Kill Bill 2
5) Basterds
6) Jackie Brown
7) Four Rooms story
8) Death Proof

Observe and Report - 8/10 - I like dark comedies

Terminator: Salvation - 4/10 - WTH...McG...you've yet to make a good movie. PLEASE QUIT! You should team up with Uwe Bowl and Michael Bay and make the suckiest movie ever to be filmed in which would have a $700mil budget and gross $1.25mil at the box office. This would ONLY lead to the studio hiring hit men to take you three out, in turn, saving humanity.

The Day The Earth Stood Still (2009) - 6/10 - I didn't like the changes from the original. Just something missing from this....maybe Klaatu not talking to the world about the situation.

BOOK REVIEW - Soon to be movie

The Road - 10/10 - This book is being made into a movie. You can see the trailer online. The writer did No Country for Old men. This book kicked me in the balls, poked me in the eyes and slept with my mother. Can't remember ever being this moved by a book.

I wouldn't take your kids to see it. But it's really a good one, DW. Maybe you and the lady should make a date of it.

Jackie Brown over Four Rooms? I don't think so. I'd put Reservoir Dogs up there on my top 10 list, but Jackie Brown was a flop, in my opinion.

She loves going to the movies. I've seen more average movies in the past two or three years than I can count.

I'm the type that will say, "I want to go see that movie."

And she's the type that will say, "I want to go to a movie. Let's see what's showing."

I'm not complaining though. She watches the Cowboys (and many other football games) with me. It's a trade-off I guess.

TS was good (not great), easily the 2nd best in the series. And what do you mean he's yet to make a good movie? We are Marshall was pretty good. Please don't put McG and especially Bay in the same class as Boll, even Charlie's Angels wasn't THAT bad.

On a Michael Bay side note, I just finished my personal edit of the first Transformers movie. Just about 20 minutes shorter and an all around much better movie. Less than 2 months until I start chopping away at Revenge of the Fallen.

I saw Inglourious right after it opened. I give it a 9.5 out of 10. Brilliant film, I would pay to see it again.

The last movie i saw at the local multiplex was 'Marley and Me' during the holidays last year - went with the anchor and the kid. If you've ever been coerced to sit thru 'Marley and Me' - I feel ya. 'Bout the only time I roused after finishing off the popcorn was when the soundtrack played, in a bit of irony, 'Lucky Man' by the Verve.

Otherwise I pretty much sat there thinking 'Great, eighty-seven exits in this joint - but no way out.' In fact, I'm just now snapping out of the malaise that movie induces.

Oh, BTW... a belated 'happy holidays' to all.

Had a busy day today..

Gamer - 6/10. Nothing new here, and it's predictable, but not bad. Mildly entertaining. Some decent action. Bit of a warning though, don't see this if you're extremely disturbed by a half naked, sweaty, and severely obese man for a few minutes.

Inglorious Basterds - 7/10. This could have been much higher. In fact, the first 2 chapters I would give 10/10. However, after opening so terrific the movie bogs down quite a bit. The ending picks back up a little, but not a lot. Also there are 2 story lines here that intertwine, but at the end I felt that one or the other wasn't really necessary.

The Final Destination (3D) - 5/10. Easily the worst of the series. The deaths weren't too terribly creative and they really didn't add anything new to the series. No new twists or theories at all. The 3D was ok, but by no means great. Most of the deaths didn't involve it too much which sort of defeats the purpose for this movie IMO. Basically just a little extra depth for the most part.

Extract - 2/10. Wow, was this bad. I almost fell asleep, and the friend I was with did fall asleep. It's hard to imagine this was made by the same guy who did Office Space. At least Idiocricy, which wasn't very good either, had a good premise. There really is nothing interesting going on in this movie except for the occassional scene with Mila Kunis.
