You made a mistake. You should finish the movie. I don't know how anyone can ever judge and turn off a movie after 20 minutes in.Big Dakota;3260811 said:Rented District 9 last night. Turned it off 20 minutes in, terrible, just terrible

Count me as a person who loved it. I think some people had different expectations about this movie. I talked to a lot of people about this movie and they expected it to be something else and once they saw it they were surprised. Some like it, some didn't.ethiostar;3261204 said:Its one of those movies where there doesn't seem to be a middle ground for those who watched it. You either hate it or like it a lot.

2 aliens just leave and a human gets turned into an alien
it was just stupid

Take The Dark Knight...A guy dresses up like a Clown, pisses off a few people and goes to jail. It was just stupid.

I am neither one. Nice generalization there.Bob Sacamano;3261404 said:at least the Dark Knight had a great performance from Heath Ledger
The only people who liked District 13 are victims of South African apartheid or Peter Jackson fan boys

Example:Braveheart...a guy who paints his face blue and gets chopped up at the end...pretty stupid.

what was the point of that movie?
2 aliens escaped
what was the point???
weren't they supposed to save the whole lot? but only 2 escape
what was the point?
Braveheart was biographical, the Dark Knight saves people's lives, District 9. WHAT??
but at least the aliens looked cool and there was a gun battle with a kick *** bot controlled by a half man/half ugly *** alien
freakin' fan boys

Another theme in the movie which again is nothing new to Hollywood is how a group of people are perceived by Society at large and as the plot progresses, shows that in fact, those perceived notions are wrong.
Another theme, which was more of a Sub Plot was lost love. My memory escapes me but at some point the main character's wife start wondering what really happened to her husband and it is implied that he actually visited their house and left her a something.
So many in the audience picked up on these themes and started to root for the two aliens to rescue their people, for the main character to get revenge on those who betrayed him and for him to get his life back.
Also, it is painfully obvious that there is going to be a Sequel to District 9 or at least it should be.
Assuming that there will be a Sequel, getting mad at how the movie ended is like getting mad at the end of Lord of the Ring The Fellowship of the Ring because at the end Frodo didn't destroy the ring as there were more movies to come.
Not sure why one has to make sweeping generalizations about people just because they liked the movie and you didn't.
