Count me as a person who loved it. I think some people had different expectations about this movie. I talked to a lot of people about this movie and they expected it to be something else and once they saw it they were surprised. Some like it, some didn't.

I imagine most movies would be pretty stupid if you just look at it like that.

Take The Dark Knight...A guy dresses up like a Clown, pisses off a few people and goes to jail. It was just stupid.

The Invention of Lying - 4/10. It's an interesting premise, but the execution is pretty bad, and the film gets boring and the schtick gets old within the first 10 minutes. And apparently not lying means saying every single thing that pops into your head.

Bruno - 0/10. Worse than Borat. Really the worst movie I've seen in quite some time. I can't recall the last movie I saw that was worse.

Braveheart was biographical, the Dark Knight saves people's lives, District 9. WHAT??

but at least the aliens looked cool and there was a gun battle with a kick *** bot controlled by a half man/half ugly *** alien

Well, one of the themes in the movie which is nothing new to Hollywood is you portray a character that is unsympathetic to a group of people and over time, either gets to know that group he/she at first disdained or in the case of District 9, completely became one.

Another theme in the movie which again is nothing new to Hollywood is how a group of people are perceived by Society at large and as the plot progresses, shows that in fact, those perceived notions are wrong.

Another theme, which was more of a Sub Plot was lost love. My memory escapes me but at some point the main character's wife start wondering what really happened to her husband and it is implied that he actually visited their house and left her a something.

So many in the audience picked up on these themes and started to root for the two aliens to rescue their people, for the main character to get revenge on those who betrayed him and for him to get his life back.

Also, it is painfully obvious that there is going to be a Sequel to District 9 or at least it should be.

Assuming that there will be a Sequel, getting mad at how the movie ended is like getting mad at the end of Lord of the Ring The Fellowship of the Ring because at the end Frodo didn't destroy the ring as there were more movies to come.

Not sure why one has to make sweeping generalizations about people just because they liked the movie and you didn't.

LOTR is barely a movie. Just some dudes walking around talking nonsense. Turned it off after 19 minutes
