Rate the last movie you saw

I watched "The Road" last night. Dear Lord that was one depressing movie.

The book makes the movie look like a Pixar film.

Knight and Day - 2/5

I thought the movie was getting a bad rap because Tom Cruise is in it, but it's actually seriously a bad movie. When the characters can't even stay awake for the film, the audience has no chance. Seriously, the main characters get drugged like 10 times in the movie. It becomes this running gag that ends up making it seem like they did it just to save budget and justify changing locations.

The A Team - 3.5/5

Pretty good, fun, action movie. I understand they wanted it to almost be like an Ocean's 11, but it wasn't quite there. There were some genuinely funny moments and the characters are likeable. Liam Neeson totally gives the the thing credibility, without him it would have been tough.

The Last Airbender 6/10.

Every since I saw the first preview six months ago, I was worried that M Night Shyamalan could not pull it off. He has one classic under his belt in The Sixth Sense, but every movie that he has made since has been steady worst than the previous one.

I just don't get it. His sense of movie making was perfect for R rated genre, but he totally missed on The Happening. I should have known better after seeing that farce.

Avatar: The Last Airbender is one of the best American-made anime ever. 61 episodes which flowed smoothly from start-to-finish. It has a great, GREAT storyline, with richly interwoven characters.

That show doesn't deserve this... mess... imitating it. The young man playing Aang was decently cast, but the young woman playing Katara? Miss. Sokka? Okay, but that's it. Grandma? Weak. The insertion of the Earth kingdom prison storyline? Blah.

Shyamalan mishandles Aang's ventures into the Spirit realm. Why he had to "tweak" firebending is beyond me. The actor playing the Firelord seems as if he stepped off the set of Live Free Or Die Hard right into this role. None of Aang's youth shines in this picture. Shyamalan keeps his character in a depressing light.

Obviously, he was working against time constraints. The movie was less than two hours long. The Book Of Water is 20 episodes long. It deserved at least 2 - 2 1/2 hours.

Still, the special effects were very good and it had it's moments. The Blue Spirit insertion was adequate and The Siege Of The North storyline was integrated well enough. Shyamalan felt like tweaking that as well. Why? I do not know. He seemed like such a great storyteller years ago. It doesn't make much sense.

******! He tweaks stuff WAY too much! "Ung"? Who the hell is "Ung"? For years, the main character's name was pronounced "Āng". It doesn't make any sense to change it for the big screen. Stupid.

Oh well. Maybe he can improve on the next two sequels. Big--> :crossed:

I don't know anything about the series, so I really couldn't care less about sticking to the the source material. Is it a good movie other than that?

Understood. But it seems hard to believe your viewpoint isn't tainted by your disappointment with the treatment of the source material -- after all, you did write a couple hundred word post on the issue.

True. My opinion is tainted by how I felt Shyamalan interpreted the story; but I will stand by my rating of it being also considered 100% accurate by most who will eventually watch the movie for themselves and don't have a single clue about the series itself.

Went and saw this tonight. I liked it. I never watched the TV Show so I couldn't compare it to that though. Didn't even know it was going to be a 3 part movie until it said "Book 1" at the beginning.

There were some really bad acting parts in it but it was an enjoyable movie.

My big question is why they would ever use hand to hand combat and not just use their water/fire/earth/air powers all the time? :laugh2:

Based on DallasEast's rating it was a 7 :)

1. Everyone isn't born with bending abilities.
2. Bending in-and-of itself involves precise body movements to initiate, which can be kinda hard to do sometimes when someone is right up in your face trying to KILL ya. ;)
