What did you think of the last Star Trek movie?

I enjoyed it, but I never bought that kid as James Kirk. And Abrams deliberately ****ing with the timeline was just one big middle finger to the fanbase.

Really? Who thought that? It's probably the most clever way to reboot a series. It actually leaves the entire timeline in place.

:rolleyes:Just point me to one redeeming quality to come out of that movie. Besides the CGI.
the fact that it de-throned TITANIC as the highest grossing movie ever... wish dark knight would have done it but they didnt leave it in theaters long enough

Um, Trekkies? That's all I heard them wail about.

Actually, it was arrogance personified. ****ing with the "canon" freed him from the restraints and traditions laid down by Roddenberry, Bennett, and others. Then there's the "butterfly effect" of elder Spock conversing with Kirk and his younger self. Those memorable showdowns with Khan? Never happened ... if Abrams says so.

I don't know any, but from what I've read I thought they were pretty pleased with how it was handled.

I hardly think it's "arrogant." It leaves the canon in place and allows you to re-imagine their lives from the beginning. It's the right balance of deference to the original and giving yourself creative license. Arrogant would have been doing a complete re-boot without a nod to the original.

It's like saying, you've lived a long, fulfilling life, now let's make you 20 years old again.

Penny Dreadful 6/10

A fair horror movie (existing in a generation full of average horror movies) which should've gotten a 5/10 rating, but Mimi Rogers seriously acted "dead performance" during the second half of the film was just too damn funny to only leave it rated half way. :lmao:

I was known to watch some Star Trek when I was a young-un and the reboot was pretty top notch in my book. Maybe BB was talking about those type of folks that hit the conventions and learn to speak Kling-on.

High Fidelity 7/10

Does this qualify as a rom-com? Probably too sullen for that. As usual, Black steals every scene he's in.

Black didn't steal anything in the Cable Guy.

Punisher -- War Zone -- 7/10

It's not higher only because I've caught the last 30 minutes of it. But it's pretty good from the little that I've seen. Great action and the dialogue isn't terrible at all.

i loved watching the old star trek re-runs when i was a kid, but i never learned to speak klingon or vulcan, which is a shame. ;)

the new star trek rocked BTW.:D

Toy Story 3 - 9/10

I never saw anyone of the prison movies that they were playing off but still......

I think they could have used the original cast a little more than they did though

I liked it too and I even found the young Kirk to be somewhat believable. I'm actually pretty excited about Star Trek reboot since they seem to have done a good job with it. I would definitely like to see more movies with that cast.

I used to stay up late as a kid to watch the reruns original series and considered myself a trekkie, but never to the point that I would learn any of the languages or even dress up like them. Never went to a convention either, though I did want to visit "Star Trek The Experience" when I was in Las Vegas the last time, but never made it there.

I watched "The Road" last night. Dear Lord that was one depressing movie.

I liked the animation/special effects in Avatar and the idea of thought transferrence from human to the avatar was cool, but the plot was absolutely totally predictable. No new twists whatsoever in the plot.
