Indy Film starring up and comer Brie Lawson as a councilor at a youth treatment facility with her own demons to muffle.
Small budget, but holds up well. Those with a heart will sympathize, those with similar heartaches with empathize. Pretty well done, with the typical handheld/ close up ratio you tend to get with indy's these days.

Oh, I love Danny McBride and E Bound and Down (own the dvds). I worded that wrong in that Pineapple Express was a different movie compared to the Interview(Franco is a beta-stoner) and was saying McBride and the hitman were also funnier than I gave them credit for. I loved McBride in the "The Worlds End" flick too with Jonah Hill, and the group, etc. Maybe I will give it another try, I remember up to the point of the movie where they actually get to NK and were meeting the ambassador they both were crushing on.

Daniel McBride is the man... funny as He11 in "Your Highness", &" Tropical Thunder".... Eastbound & Down is brilliant!

Selma - 7.5/10 An excellent movie that was well framed. I've heard questions about the authenticity of LBJ's portrayal, but it was before my birth, so I don't know about that.

Whiplash - 8/10 I'm not sure I rooted for anyone in this film. JK Simmons' character induced more hatred from me than his role in Oz, which is difficult to do. Very intense film.

Birdman - 8.5/10 Wow, the continuous shot of the movie kept me glued to the screen. Michael Keaton showed up to deliver a gem of a performance.

Predestination - 6/10 I'm not an Ethan Hawke fan, but I'm a sucker for time travel films. It was a fun watch.

pretty much.

Unbroken -8/10 The movie was a bit too heavy-handed at times but I guess it's to be expected in a movie like this. Louis Zamperini led a remarkable life.

Angelina Jolie directed, and the Cohen Brothers contributed to the screenplay. I haven't seen it yet, and I'm sure its sap heavy, but I'm curious to see this dynamic.....

A Walk Among the Tombstones
6/10
Surprisingly Liam Neeson isn't "Snapping Necks, and Cashing Large Checks" at every turn in this film. More of a Noir film following a private investigator with demons as he attempts to solve several crimes involving small time hustlers who prey on big money makers for ransom. Decent entertainment... No Liam Neeson movie these days go without having cheese, and this film had its share. Good performance by child actor Kid Astro as TJ. Interesting photography, some picturesque wide shots popped up at times I didn't expect them....

I paid. They still killed her.
Bring them to me. EXCITING!!!!

2 minutes later ....zzzzzzzzzzzz

4 of 10 for me

RonSprings gave American Sniper a 6.5 and Tammy a 5.5.
Hmmmm...that is like giving Goodfellas a 7 and Mafia! a 6.
That movie compass may be a little off.

My buddy had free screening tickets for this one. It was one of the worst flicks I've seen in quite some time. The two points are for special effects and Mila Kunis.

Such a myriad of things wrong with this one. I don't know where to begin. All I can say is...save your money and let your friend rent it for you. You might want to watch it on their TV as well so you don't waste your electricity, however I hope they live next to you so you don't waste your gas going to their house to watch it.

Triangle - kind of a low budget movie...maybe aussie made. Was not too bad as I had no expectations going in. There were certain aspects/scenes that I thought were really kind of cool and different. Other parts of it were meh.

I'm not sure Jupiter Ascending is the sequel or the prequel to Battlefield Earth.
If they drop those movies on ISIS half of them will set themselves on fire and the other half will surrender.

Coherence - 7.5/10 A passing comet causes crazy situations to occur at a dinner party. A mind-bending sci-fi thriller. If you liked Primer, give this a look.

I'm glad not to realize what American Sniper was based on until mid-way in the movie. Since it covered the dilemma picking friend from foe and PTSD ,I did not consider it promoting war, nor did it even mention foreign policy or anyone in Washington. Seth Rogen's remark comparing the protagonist to the fictitious sniper in Inglorious B*stards is just stupid as this is a different kind of warfare - the protagonist DID put himself in harm's way.

I recently saw American Sniper... and it's NOT what most will preconceive it to be. But it's still quite good - 7 of 10. Also saw Birdman... Michael Keaton and Edward Norton were very good - I never was sure whether it was psychological or fantasy even to the end... also 7 of 10. But the best movie I've seen this year? Nightcrawler with Jake Gyllenhaal... just awesome. Amoral journalism meets irrational fear and capitalism for the news/entertainment trifecta. Dead on (9 of 10). Gyllenhaal absolutely kills it - I can't believe he's not up for a 'Best Actor' Oscar this year.

A Most Violent Year
6.5/10
A young business man, in the fuel supplying business find out how difficult a year 1981 is in NYC.
More of a slow paced crime mystery than anything that the title may suggest. Very strong acting performances in a film that is essentially a series of conversations that leads you into the underworld of the oil & fuel business. The cinematography by Bradford Young ("Selma", "Ain't Dem Bodies Saints") is excellent, and may be the strongest part of this sometimes tedious film The next to last scene has a strong symbolic shot that everyone should be on the look out for.

For me, I repeat, only for me. This is forum. So it's bit like we cane breakdown our reviews with detailed categorized criteria, it's a simple best of 10 rating,

That therein lies the problem.

You have the story. Just the story and nothing but the story. Not HOW it is told. NOT about the director and his adapting it to the screen, NOT how it was cut ain the editing floor.

Just he mans story. THAT should be a rating just by itself.

I think kyle's story is a great one. The story is 9 of 10 if not 10 of 10 again, for me.
How could you give that story anything less. He was an american protecting his fellow Americans in war.
Plain and simple.

Anyway... Jmo.

I see no problem. I don't think the story was told well from a cinematic stand point. gave my opinion. It felt like a TV movie. When I go to the theaters to watch a film, and pay 20 bucks IMAX...... I want more than what I would watch NBC......I want an experience..... What tone the director sets is very important in effecting the viewer... however the viewer experience varies, just like how you feel about the subject may vary....... So you can give it a 10 out of 10, and I won't bat an eye... I'm okay with that... So it should be no water off of anyone's back when I don't think the film was well made, especially from the standard of film that i'm used to from that director.... If that's not the way you would judge a film... just move right past my post.....

But that's JMO....
