6.5/10.0

The dynamic of David (Shailene Woodley/Tris) and Goliath (Kate Winslet/Jeanine) worked really well in Divergent and Insurgent. Splitting Goliath in half between Evelyn (Naomi Watts) and David (Jeff Daniels)? Not so well. Another strong suit of the first two movies, Tris' and Four's romance, gets swallowed up in this sequel too. It sets up the next movie squarely though.

How do you maintain suspense when 90% of the movie takes place in an underground bunker? 10 Cloverfield Lane pulls it off nicely. The sequel does not have the look or feel of the original but establishes another solid chapter in the off-the-wall American giant monster series.

Do I need to see Cloverfield to enjoy this movie?

No, the sequel stands on its own. I think any first-time viewer who sees the sequel first will miss out on some of the foreboding that comes from seeing the original film but that's about it.

Many know I watch a good deal of B movies so to speak. Either they are foreign films or lower budgets films and sometimes both.

Mostly they are in the horror or thriller genre although some could be action/thriller type.

I normally get these movies on one of the pay movie channels on cable (HBO and the like) or from free places on the net like Crackle or what I can find free on Youtube (sometimes before they take them off youtube ;) )

BackCountry - Lower budget film about a couple who go camping, get lost and somehow attract the attention of a big bad bear.
Not a bad movie for a lower budget one. Don't think I would buy or rent the movie but all in all for what it was I thought it was pretty good even though it could be better. Nothing ground breaking but still ok.

Lumberjack man - I only got to watch the first 20 minutes or so of this and it was pretty lame. I will probably still go back and finish watching it just to see if it is a film that is making fun of itself and doing so on purpose which is what it seems to be doing with some of the things that were so silly. Your basic premise of a slasher movie where there is a teen camp and a a slasher who for some reason is called lumber jack man but seems to have wild hair, tree bark as a mask, red glowing eyes behind the mask and also has some weird obsession with pancakes or flap jacks as in one part he pulls up to a bus to kill a few people inside but he is pulling a hand held trailer with a stack of HUGE flap jacks on it? Like I said, I might go back to catch the rest just to see if it is meant to be more of a comedy and I was just not laughing lol.

Lord of War (Nicolas Cage) - 6.5/10

Not a great movie, but it is an entertaining movie and a time burn. I saw it several years ago, but just watched it again over the weekend on Netflix.

That scene where the Skinnies come and take that jet apart within a few hours is pretty cool.

About what I would give it.

If you love DC comics and liked Man of Steel you'll really enjoy this one.

What if you don't read comics, but enjoy some DC movies, but also found Man of Steel to be below average?

Sisters - 3/10. Wow, I remember hearing that this was funny back when it came out, so I thought it would at least be fairly tolerable. I was wrong. The movie is long by comedy standards coming in at just under 2 hours, and it is painfully unfunny the entire time. Nothing creative or clever here. Nothing funny, and very little even mildly humorous. The two leads are obnoxious and unlikable. In fact, almost everyone in the movie is unlikable. Just not entertaining at all.

Hatefull 8: 7 of 10.

A good mashup in the Tarentino fashion, but closer to Death Proof ( which I enjoyed ) then his better works.
