The Martian (8/10) - Pretty good, although I felt it was predictable at times. At one point they were talking about how long Damon could survive and the scene ends with someone saying, "if nothing else goes wrong". When I heard this I said, "oh of course something is going to go wrong. Ya know, because being stranded by yourself on Mars just isn't bad enough". Next scene shows the front door getting blown off the little building he's camped in. Also didn't really care for the "coming up short" angle after Damon had gutted the space craft of everything. They tore 5,000 kg out of this thing and he comes up short? What the hell would have happened if it was intact and actually trying to carry 6 people into space as it was designed to do? Make it halfway and fall back to Mars? Good movie, but felt it didn't need all the extra adversity to overcome. Rescuing a man from Mars seems like it should have been enough.

Hitman: Agent 47 - Can't even try to rate it, but I will say the 8% is scored on Rotten Tomatoes is probably a fitting score. Zachary Quinto should be thankful he has another Star Trek movie movie on the way because this is the type of movie that actors rarely recover from. It's just amazing how someone who can play a major role in a blockbuster movie could be so awful at judging whether or not an idea pitched to him absolutely sucks.

Concerning Hitman....he probably just made it for the money and nothing else.

I recall hearing an interview with Timothy Olyphant (sp?) a few years ago.
How Deadwood was doing great and him and his wife just bought an expensive new house thinking that Deadwood had a few more years, at the very least, left in it. Only for the new head honchos at HBO up and cancel show with no ryhme or reason other than to save money (did the same to Rome and both were big ratings shows for the network).

He said so with the show cancelled and no big name projects in the work...that explains why I did Hitman...to pay the house off and he laughed about it. He made no bones that it was a crappy movie from the go but he only did it for the money.

He's talking about a different movie.

yes I know hitman:agent 47 is not the same move as Hitman that Olyphant was in.

I was talking about how Olyphant basically said it was only for the money because he needed it at the time and knew it was a crappy movie...to the possibility that Quinto did the same thing.

He came up short because the rescue ship was going much faster than a regular ship would have gone, because they had to slingshot around Mars. Remember, the original ship they were on was only designed for 1 round trip, it didn't have enough resources for it to get halfway back home and turn around. Because the rescue ship was going much faster than it was designed to go, the MAV had to go faster to reach the intercept point. Because of this, he had to lighten the weight to get the MAV going much faster than it was designed.

Watched the miniseries Shogun again. Basically watched it over the last few days.

I think I watch it once a year or once every other year...same with Band of Brothers.

And as always I still love them both.

I have been wanting to see this but it looked like the old Cannibal holocaust movie but just a newer version. And frankly that movie was not that great.

The Witch - 0/10. Possibly the worst movie I've seen in several years. I have nothing good to say about it except perhaps the acting of the main girl. Very very stupid. And boring.

Risen - 6/10. Better produced than most Christian themed movies, but it still suffers from some poor dialogue and overdone moments. The film is a bit disjointed as the tone of the 2nd half is much different from the first.

Bridge of Spies, 6/10

Do you ever watch a movie and then wonder if you liked it or not? I kept waiting for the thrilling part of the thriller. Hanks is always good though

Kate and Leopold: It wasn't bad, but it was still a chick-flick. The woman I'm seeing doesn't care of obnoxious stuff. heh Not sure how this is going to work out.

I felt the same way about The Revenant.

I saw Deadpool this weekend and really enjoyed it. If you know the character, you know the people involved did too. Kudos to Fox for allowing those people who know and love the character to handle it and getting it right the second time around.

Safelight - nothing unpredictable, nothing special, very low budget, never heard of it...but in the end I still kind of liked it.

The Martian was ho hum for me 6/10, predictable 'issues', forced at times

What you're saying is not correct because the ship actually sling-shotted around the earth and got supplies from the Chinese ship as it went around earth. So it wasn't going faster than expected. The problems appeared very forced and contrived to me. And I'm a huge Sci- Fi fan. I watched it on a plane, at home I would likely not have finished it.

Triple 9. 7 of 10.
Nice action and plenty of great actors.
A pure bloodbath.
Beyond a stream of consciousness viewing of ruthlessness there wasn't much else ot it.
But sometimes that's enough and this time it worked because the actors were very believable.
