Never knew this movie was out there.
Guy who did Dazed and Confused did this so I thought, hey I will check it out.

Well it turns out there is a reason I never knew it was out there...cause compared to Dazed and Confused this was crap.
I can watch plenty of straight to video b type movies...heck I like some of the american pie straight to video movies...but this one was just not good.

Well, 40 years ago this would have been a classical B movie with no one ever taking notice.

So incredibly ordinary and kinda cheap. Jlo can't act for the life of it.

But it's funny how taste varies. Or should I say astonishing? Same with Furiosa. If I wanted to see a Mad Max movie, I'd watch a... well Mad Max movie.
I remember reading an article the year Hustlers came out where they had an anonymous inside give their thoughts on Oscar contenders. When they were asked about Jlo in Hustlers, they had a two word response. The word was Jlo. The first word was four letters that I can't repeat here

Not sure why but that reminded me a little of Quest for Fire from many moons ago. At least that movie had Rae Dawn Chong, lol.
Quest for fire is like "Gone with the Wind" compared to this stinker.

Bodily secretions and humping are the hallmarks of this movie.

Meh. Was kind of tired and not feeling good so I did not even finish this one. Just was not working for me.
While watching it I though of that show from a few years ago where they have special effects artist compete called face off. This movie made me thing that the guy doing the movie came there and said make me four or five monsters from a tarot card deck and I will use the best. Again, maybe if I was feeling better while watching I would have liked it a tad better.

I liked this one much more than Tarot.
Not that it will win Oscars. But just a good old fashioned serial killer and detective movie with the
main detective going to Scotland to help the police there catch the killer.

Nothing new or original here. But if you like that type of movie it is ok.

I must be one of the few that just does not get the seemingly over whelming praise of Godzilla mines one.

I thought it was going to be much better than the standard old Japanese godzilla movies with silly looking rubbery suit looking Godzillas especially with modern special effects and CGI.

Now I know it is cool to see things done without CGI and if it is done, it has to be pulled off well. This one, slight upgrade from the old ones but still cheesy looking.

Loved them as a kid and they could not do much better at that time, but times have changed.

Also did not care that much for the story. The pilot irked me, the whole story line with the girl and the baby bored me.

TO BE FAIR....I think the hype for this and me wanting to watch it for so long, no way it could have lived up to the hype for me, but I still thought it would have been much better than it was. Just seemed like a modern day version of what they did years ago.

I forgot to mention for anyone interested in Dune: Part Two -
  • Christopher Walken plays The Emperor
  • Austin Butler (Elvis) plays Duke Feyd-Rautha (Sting's old role in the first movie)
  • Florence Pugh plays Princess Irulan
  • Léa Seydoux (from Spectre and No Time To Die) plays Lady Margot Fenring
All four actors and their roles did not appear in Dune: Part One.

The First Omen
Supposed to be a prequel to the original Omen movie. A girl travels to Italy and intends to become a nun and realizes something is not right and tries to uncover the mystery. It was OK, thought it was better than The Exorcist remake, but just felt flat. I was really hoping for more from it. 6/10

Split Second
This was an early 90's cheesy horror thriller B movie, but it starred Rutger Hauer and a younger Kim Cattrall. It takes place in an alt future, 2008....lol, the polar caps are melting causing worldwide flooding and a killer is roaming the London streets. It's super cheesy with the usual tropes, but dang it, if Rutger Hauer makes it all work, some funny, cheesy one-liners, some gore. I liked Kim Cattrall as his love interest and his rookie partner, Neil Duncan, who also voiced Alfred in some of the Batman animated movies. This ain't Bladerunner, but it's still fun for what it is and Rutger Hauer was great in this kinda stuff. 7/10

Dune: Part 2

Much, much better than the original movie, and better than Part 1. It seemed to skip around a bit, but that sped it up to a respectable pace, IMO.

I don't find it interesting enough to ever watch it again, but I'm glad I saw it.

7/10
I watched part II the other night. I thought it was too long. In fact the entire 2 part epic was too long (2 hours and 45 minutes). Despite how long part 2 is it seemed at times disjointed. At other times it was boring. I admit keeping my attention for over 2 hours take some doing, more than giant worms, and even Christopher Walken!

I was not a big fan of the original movie. I am not a big fan of the new one either. But I liked part 1 better than the original, but I thought the original second half was better in some ways than the new Part 2. The way Part 2 ended gave me the feeling they want to see if there is profit in making a part 3, and maybe 4. It seems a part 3 is planned already.

I am not crazy the way Paul Atreides turned into some kind of schizophrenic lunatic in part 2. I supposed this too was to set up the story for part 3.

I am like you, I am not disappointed I watched it, but I would not consider watching it a second time. There was nothing about it that captured my interest enough to go back and look it over again.

I am not as generous with the rating either. I give it a 6.5 out of 10. It just felt like it was missing something.

Godzilla Minus One

INTENSE! About as realistic a monster movie could be. You really feel the impact of the devastation. There's some political themes here and there which is understood because of the timeframe depicted, so be ready for that.

I've never felt this way after seeing the other Godzilla movies. This isn't a popcorn thrill-ride...this is horror and drama.

Sting was about the only bright spot in the original dune movie.

You ever notice that every so often two movies are made around the same time that either cover the same material or are similar in many ways.

For example.....Wyatt Earp movie and Tombstone...both covering historical pieces and both made around the same time.
Another was Robin Hood with Patrick Bergin SP? and Robin Hood Prince of Thieves with Costner both about robin hood and both out around the same time.

Well Immaculate and the First omen...both made around the same time.
Both with similar overall topics with slight differences.

Two young nuns from America go overseas to work in a convent. Both find themselves in unforseen circumstances.
Both Become Pregnant without their consent. The church wants to control both pregnancies against the girls will.

I think The first Omen had a little more scenes that tried to shock you with some disturbing things. However I think I liked the Immaculate movie a tad bit better.. I think the first omen had a better ending. Immaculate is one of those open ended endings.

I think I had higher expectations for the First Omen. Really did not know much about Immaculate going into it so had lower expectations. That might be why I liked immaculate a little better.
