Captain America: The Winter Soldier- 8.5/10
Drags in spots, but overall great. Scarlett J. makes up for it. Liked the running theme of her trying to fix Cap up.

Watched "Boyhood" & "Jersey Boys"

Clint Eastwood is a master craftsmen.. even if you don't like the subjects, he's learned from some of the best as an actor (Sergio!!!!)
Jersey Boys was no different, but it wasn't perfect... wasn't a fan of the end... 7 out of 10 or 3 1/2 stars. I've never seen the musical, but I am familiar with the Four Seasons

Boyhood as much about the process as it was about the story. A narrative that follows the scripted story of a Boy for 12 years, as he matures into an adult, and witnesses the relationships that surrounds him. Richard Linklater likes to take his audience on journeys through time ("Before" Trilogy").... but all in one movie over 12 years is unprecedented for a narrative. A bit long, but still a unique experience. 7/10 or again 3 1/2 stars...

For the Old popcorn buffs, also watched Rocky 4... Great when Rocky makes Drago bleed, and is told in his corner "He's not a machine, he's a man!"
At the same time Drago comes to a realization... as he tells his corner men.... "He's not a man.... he's like a piece of Iron"

Gotta love Rocky. (save 5 :/).. Looking forward to "Creed"..... Apollo Creed son's rise, directed & written by up and comer Ryan Coogler (Fruitvale Station)... should be coming out in 15 or 16....

Yes, hollywood is running out of ideas..

Saw Dawn of the Planet of the Apes today, really enjoyed it. The story, visual effects and action were all done really well. One of the best movies I've seen in a while.

8.5 out of 10

i'm a HUGE apes fan and went to the $20 dine in recliner seat theater with my bro and nephew to watch it. i have to admit, i was more than let down at the result. when it was *finally* over, my first thought was "they could have cut out 20 minutes and not lost a thing in the plot itself.

they also stole plenty of guns from the armory, but man alive, how come all guns were fully automatic and had more bullets than hershell had shotgun shells? POTENTIAL SPOILER BUT ONLY TALKING A FEW SCENES: where he has a fully automatic in each hand and going "apecaca" was over the top too much to me. and when ceasar and koba were fighting, the whole rope swinging thing made the theater stink of cliche at it's finest. and when they chose to attack the humans, why did they leave the dam alone so the humans still had power?

overall, i'll give it a 6.5 out of 10. i got tired of the subtitles *and* ceaser talking like tonto. you can already tell they're prepping for the next movie and i can only hope they do a better job of tying in all the past together than they did here.

Funny, their were no subs at the theater I was in......Saw it in Toronto at some fi-fi, upscale alcohol serving theater also......Maybe they speak Ape?

Transcendence. Turned it off about a half hour in. And I never turn movies off halfway through. Last movie I think I turned off in the middle was The Quest with Jean Claude Van Damme in like the mid 90's. And I'm a natural language processor so I deal with artificial intelligence and robotics so you'd think I might've appreciated the movie.

We had subtitles too (in VA) at the everyday Regal theater I went to, showing in 3D. Didn't bother me whatsoever. But then I like to watch foreign films in their native languages and am used to subtitles. MUCH prefer them to overdubs.

I didn't think it was too long, personally. Want too long? See Transformers. THAT is too long. I had no problem with the rope swinging. I thought it was kind of cool, actually. Wow! Apes being apes. Who would have ever thought?

I think the apes left the dam alone because they wanted to live in the city after defeating the humans. That's why Koba "sent" for the females and children to come join them.

And the guns / ammo thing? That is so pervasive in films / TV that I don't even really pay attention to it any longer.

Birthday Girl with Nicole Kidman.

Never heard of the movie. Kind of slow paced to start with but it was ok. Had no expectations for it as I had never heard of it.

I couldn't get through transformers. it just wasn't the same and pretty boring overall.

as for the ammo thing, I don't care it's overplayed and accepted. I find it a serious detriment to reality.

talking monkeys is fine. unlimited ammo is a party foul. :)

Raid 2
if you've seen the first one, the second is a must. Less than a third the budget than most hollywood blockbusters, yet much more exciting and thought out.

Life of Pi

Some pretty visually stunning sequences. Loved the plankton / blue whale stuff. And then that carnivorous island with all the meerkats? That was great...did you notice the profile shot of the island...when the meerkats were all scattering away and the tiger rushed back to the boat, to get off the island...it was a profile of a body. As of a body in a state of rest for burial. Wow. Great acting by the guy playing Pi; he had to carry the film just as any survivor / castaway movie pretty much relies on. He did great.
