Nebraska...7.5/10
way better than i thought it would be.
Homefront...5/10
like coming up on a car wreck...can't stop looking.
Saw Dawn of the Planet of the Apes today, really enjoyed it. The story, visual effects and action were all done really well. One of the best movies I've seen in a while.
8.5 out of 10
i'm a HUGE apes fan and went to the $20 dine in recliner seat theater with my bro and nephew to watch it. i have to admit, i was more than let down at the result. when it was *finally* over, my first thought was "they could have cut out 20 minutes and not lost a thing in the plot itself.
they also stole plenty of guns from the armory, but man alive, how come all guns were fully automatic and had more bullets than hershell had shotgun shells? POTENTIAL SPOILER BUT ONLY TALKING A FEW SCENES: where he has a fully automatic in each hand and going "apecaca" was over the top too much to me. and when ceasar and koba were fighting, the whole rope swinging thing made the theater stink of cliche at it's finest. and when they chose to attack the humans, why did they leave the dam alone so the humans still had power?
overall, i'll give it a 6.5 out of 10. i got tired of the subtitles *and* ceaser talking like tonto. you can already tell they're prepping for the next movie and i can only hope they do a better job of tying in all the past together than they did here.
Funny, their were no subs at the theater I was in......Saw it in Toronto at some fi-fi, alcohol serving theater......Maybe they speak Ape?
Wild. When the apes grunted we had sub's.

We had subtitles too (in VA) at the everyday Regal theater I went to, showing in 3D. Didn't bother me whatsoever. But then I like to watch foreign films in their native languages and am used to subtitles. MUCH prefer them to overdubs.
I didn't think it was too long, personally. Want too long? See Transformers. THAT is too long. I had no problem with the rope swinging. I thought it was kind of cool, actually. Wow! Apes being apes. Who would have ever thought?
I think the apes left the dam alone because they wanted to live in the city after defeating the humans. That's why Koba "sent" for the females and children to come join them.
And the guns / ammo thing? That is so pervasive in films / TV that I don't even really pay attention to it any longer.
unlimited ammo is a party foul.
Animal Kingdom...8.5
Marcus Dupree ... The best that never was...10
SnowPiercer.........An Amazing Allegory..... Smart, Fascinating, Well Orchestrated...
Big Action, with an even Bigger Story. 4/5 8/10
Raid 2
if you've seen the first one, the second is a must. Less than a third the budget than most hollywood blockbusters, yet much more exciting and thought out.
4/5, 7.5/10
Life of Pi
Some pretty visually stunning sequences. Loved the plankton / blue whale stuff. And then that carnivorous island with all the meerkats? That was great...did you notice the profile shot of the island...when the meerkats were all scattering away and the tiger rushed back to the boat, to get off the island...it was a profile of a body. As of a body in a state of rest for burial. Wow. Great acting by the guy playing Pi; he had to carry the film just as any survivor / castaway movie pretty much relies on. He did great.
