The Invasion (Nicole Kidman)

I had actually forgotten that I had already seen this film some years ago. It's a retake on the Body Snatchers book / film. And I don't like how they re-imagined the "threat" and what it was and the ending was just horrible. They took a great horror story (the original) and dumbed it down to something that does no justice to the original. Only Nicole Kidman kept me watching the second time through.

Under The Skin 6/10

This is a Sci-Fi art film where Scarlett Johansson plays a alien seductress who seems to have a mission to seduce single men and collect their insides, but learns about humanity in the process. This is an art film. There is very little dialog in this film and it relies heavily upon imagery. The plot and resolution is not explained and must be inferred. The film has generally positive reviews from critics, but I don't believe the average movie goer would enjoy it because it is very different--in terms of story telling--from the average films format. That said, Scarlett goes fully nude in this film, so there's that...

It was an interesting experience. It was cinema verite for the most part, very loose and unstructured. The score was great. It was kinda cool seeing her trying to assimilate....
but i agree the average movie goer may be turned off....... but scarjo's body may fix that.....:D
7-10....

i'm a HUGE apes fan and went to the $20 dine in recliner seat theater with my bro and nephew to watch it. i have to admit, i was more than let down at the result. when it was *finally* over, my first thought was "they could have cut out 20 minutes and not lost a thing in the plot itself.

they also stole plenty of guns from the armory, but man alive, how come all guns were fully automatic and had more bullets than hershell had shotgun shells? POTENTIAL SPOILER BUT ONLY TALKING A FEW SCENES: where he has a fully automatic in each hand and going "apecaca" was over the top too much to me. and when ceasar and koba were fighting, the whole rope swinging thing made the theater stink of cliche at it's finest. and when they chose to attack the humans, why did they leave the dam alone so the humans still had power?

overall, i'll give it a 6.5 out of 10. i got tired of the subtitles *and* ceaser talking like tonto. you can already tell they're prepping for the next movie and i can only hope they do a better job of tying in all the past together than they did here.

Koba on the horse with two guns was Arnie/Slyesque, I loved it

The Heat (Sandra Bullock)

Comedy / action flick about an FBI agent and a Boston lady detective teaming up. Not bad. Not great.

Begin Again.
Solid NYC movie, with some good nods to the troubled/changing music industry. One of Mark Ruffalo's better performances, and surprisingly Keira Knightly has pretty good voice. A movie for the underdog, where everything doesn't fit into one neat puzzle, which I appreciate in movies... 6.5/10, 3.5/5

Smart. Visually stunning. With just the right amount of suspense. Luc Besson uses a good deal of associative imagery when Lucy is first taken. I hope that does turn off some of the film's audience. The pace is a little slow in the first 15 - 20 minutes. The Richard scene is mainly responsible for that. I'm not sure why the roommate scene was necessary, but I was okay with it. The movie trailers do not do the rest of the movie justice. This one is going into my personal blu-ray collection.

Time for a new avatar. :)

Happy you liked it, since you were anticipating it. I will see it next week. Good week for films..
Woody Allen "Magic in the Moonlight"
Lucy
Phillip Seymour Hoffman, "A Most Wanted Man"

Next Week...
"Guardians of the Galaxy", which should be up Marvel's alley.

Lucy

Oh my. What a complete train wreck of a film. I expected so much more from this but what was the point of this film? Soooooo many plot holes, so much BS, so much of just putting some oooh & aaaah special effects on the screen to no. Apparent. Reason. Whatsoever. SOOO much bad acting, bad plot, bad storyline. Just. UGH.

One of the worst films I've seen in quite some time at the theater. KNEW I should've opted for Hercules...

I had exactly the opposite reaction. I thought the trailers made it look interesting, but the movie itself was terrible, and maybe the dumbest film I've seen all year. Much of the audience actually laughed at it when it was over. 4/10 for me.

lol! Well, no one laughed in my theater. Then again, I didn't catch any groans either.

Not a movie but a series.

Hemlock grove which is a netflix series I had never heard of and someone told me to check.

Lucky for me they just completed a second season so I had two seasons worth to watch.

The overall genre is overplayed any more and I would not say it was the best however I did like it because although it was an overplayed genre, at least they made some things a little original and off beat.

Saw some cool things for a werewolf changing that was different.

At the same time there were some...oh you got to be kidding me moments that just made you groan but I would imagine that comes with a limited budget.

Oh and Famke Janssen is still a hottie.

The Wolverine - meh. Maybe I need to watch it again as when I first watched I kept getting interrupted so it took some time to watch it all. But overall it seemed kind of lame.

I agree--kinda boring IMO. Although, my version was missing the subs so I missed some of the dialog.

I saw Lucy with the wife on Saturday. I'm thinking I will throw out a 6.5 out of 10. Certainly not what I was expecting. The first ten minutes were even mildly annoying (when you watch it you will probably get what I am talking about), but they finally went beyond that and it had some good moments from that point on. I am not big on complaining about plot holes in a Sci-Fi flick (seems hypocritical considering the material), but there were a couple of times where I really thought common sense would prevail only to find Lucy must have lost it when she evolved.

I would recommend it on Blu Ray.
