What if someone moved up to 5? Then you lose out on both players you wanted. I am not a fan of taking a RB in that spot so I would have liked the trade down but if you targeted a guy, no sense putting him at risk.

The Jaguars (based on pre-draft speculation and scenarios) wanted either Bosa, Ramsay or Jack if available. Jack's injury eliminated him. Ramsay would have been taken by the Ravens. And Bosa was already gone. So there was really no one for Jacksonville to pick once the top players were gone. Jacksonville could have bailed, dropped to the Dolphins or Bears and then no Zeke to the Cowboys.

I was at the stadium and I was with one of the executives for sales. He told me way before about Ravens trying to trade with us. He said Jerry wasn't trading the pick at all. Didn't wanna take the chance of losing out on zeke

Only Mickey would believe that nonsense. No one was trading up for Zeke.

maybe not, but maybe Jacksonvillle surprises us and takes Elliott at #5. Unlikely since they took Yeldon last year, but anything is possible.

yea, that would have sucked. wonder who we pick in that scenario...Buckner?

Yeah, I'm assuming that Buckner would have been the pick.

Or possibly would have talked with other teams about trading further down for teams that wanted their OT

Conventional wisdom says no to an RB at 4, but we're the one team that utilized a running game effectively in the past few years. That was our formula for success after trying to emulate what other teams have done. I'm not mad that Jerry decided to get the guy who he believed would take us back to that successful formula. You also want a guy there to help protect Romo. I'm glad we didn't get cute and try to pick up extra picks and just went out and got Elliott if that's who everyone wanted.

So I'm guessing they were worried about someone trading with the Jags at 5 to steal Zeke form us? Can't blame them I guess. Zeke was their guy and they didn't want to risk losing him. Curious about what the offer was though..

Bingo and that team was Miami. They were being very aggressive on the phones and the Cowboys got spooked by it.

Jerry just said Baltimore wanted Elliot.....and the trade was dependent on the Ravens telling them who they were picking..

JJ just said that we had an offer from another team and were considering moving down. But, Dallas didn't want to risk losing Zeke. Turned out the team wanting our pick wanted to draft Zeke. Whoo, close call.

The curse of the moss still haunting the Cowboys. Chances are he still would have been there at 6 but the Cowboys weren't willing to risk it.

If Bosa wasn't picked by the Chargers then you have 3 guys you want and dropping down would have still given you at worst Bosa.... When Bosa went I think that killed any chance of us moving down.
