I am sorry that I don't have the splits for the entire NCAA per quarter but that doesn't mean that its a bad benchmark.

All I am saying is that 4 YPC is not a good bench mark for college runners. its not even a good bench mark in the pros anymore seeing that 4.5 YPC would have ranked you 20th in the NFL.

In the NCAA Div 1, 5 YPC would rank you 90th in the nation. I don't see that as being a bad mendoza line.

I don't think its out of line to say that he was below average in the second quarter and bad in the fourth. 3.6 YPC is bad any way you want to look at it.

As for McFadden, if you mean by gimmick that every team was loading up to stop him with an SEC defense and he had no QB or passing game then you have a point.

Ray Rice had a 3000 yard passer and 2 1000 yard receivers helping him.

That being said he showed up in big games. Putting up 120+ yards against UWV, USF, Louisville and Ball State for his bowl game.
The numbers you posted show that he has a 5.8 YPC in the 2nd half of games. But you're crowing about his 4th quarter production being 3.9 YPC? And you have the gall to tell Sarge to "bring something worthwhile" to the conversation? Eventually if you break any players numbers down into a specific situation, you'll find a below average situation, unless he actually took each and every for 5 yards. That's just the nature of averages.

For example, Marion Barber had a 3.3 YPC against our division opponents. That's abysmal. Must me he sucks, right? He had a 3.9 YPC on 2nd downs. How on earth did he make it to the Pro Bowl only running 3.9 YPC on 2nd downs?

Great points. Have no idea what Fuzzy's problem is with me.....perhaps those little brown balls he ate this morning weren't chocolate after all. ;)

I like Ray Rice very much.
ESPN did a story about him during one of thier college gameday shows and I just remembered that if we could get a rb like this it would be like getting a player with the same character of a Emmitt Smith.
I'm talking about the quality of the person that he is.
I also have seen him play several times and he is a rb that can carry the full load for a game.
After the top 3 of Mcfadden,Mendenhall and Stewart I have Rice,C. Johnson and Jamaal Charles as my next best 3 rb's.
I have Felix Jones behind all of those guys for a couple of reason's.
1. Felix Jones has not shown he can carry the full load as a rb for a full season.
2.The Mcfadden factor-I think Jones benefitted from Mcfadden getting so much attention from opposing defenses. If it wasn't Mcfadden in the spread formation as a the qb..it was the opposing defenses letting down when Mcfadden left the game.

Rice is a workhorse, reminds me of D. Staley. Saw a lot of the kid in college. He's solid. That's the best way I can put it. He looks like he is moving at a snails pace, the next thing you know, the snails pace is outrunning everyone to the endzone.

I would be VERY happy to have him in the 2nd round.

I hope this post was informative, otherwise Fuzzy has threatened to ban me and call me bad names.

:)

I'm not going to get in an argument over what YPC is acceptable in college vs the pros, but you have to admit you are skewing the numbers just a little to help make your point.

I mean it's fine if you don't like the kid, but you can't break down his play carry by carry, find a weak spot and say that is what defines him.

If that's what you want to do, you could find "fatal" in everyone.

Oh, and happy Easter all. ;)

So ray rice has

Lateral agility
vision

name some more traits guys

Why don't you just read the scouting reports if you're looking for adjectives?

What exactly are you looking for?

Strengths:
Patient runner with excellent vision and instincts...Very strong and tough...Terrific balance and agility...Will pick up yards after contact...Has soft hands...Has a burst and hits the hole hard...Is more quick than fast...Durable...Hard worker with good intangibles...Also offers some value as a return specialist...Exceptional production.

Weaknesses:
Does not have great size..Doesn't really play to his timed speed and he isn't a big play threat...Has a lot of mileage on his tires...Is not real elusive and doesn't have much wiggle...Will never be more than an average blocker..Upside may be limited.

Is this what you're interested in?

If you play it safe your going to end up sorry.

He does have the qualities but i am still very skeptical on him there's just something there about him that doesn't add up. I'm not sure what it is but i'm not sold on this guy

Yeah, I can't really blame you for not having a clue as to why you don't like him.

If anyone follows Big East football they know Rice is a good RB. Seriously.

I have a feeling that many that bash him are guys that have only seen a game or two of his.

If they seen him play enough they would be happy to have him on this team splitting time with marion or taking the starting nod if marion has to sit out.

Guy is a good back.

Too many people have only seen a game or two, if that many, and want all flash with some other players where Rice is a productive back on a team where he was the primary threat that the defenses had to account for game after game...yet he still produced.

As opposed to when you risk it all, and always win?

Luckily, no ones football franchise is resting on your being sold or not but if you don't know why you dislike him, and have no desire to be moved from that stance, why do you keep starting threads like this?
