We'll according to the baltimore sun the ravens are close to a deal with Bart scott. The owner of the ravens isn't to pleased with ray's comments. If scott inks that deal before friday the ravens would be in great position and would be able to sign ray at their price.

sweet! hopefully with Bart getting signed they will be forced to lower the price on Ray and we could get him for a decent contract. But than again I heard they're prepaired to pay him "a boatload of money".

Since he received the franchise tag, you have to take Suggs out of that equation. Almost without question, the Ravens will re-sign Scott. The only uncertainty is whether Baltimore can do the same with Lewis. Ozzie Newsome is confident that he can bring him back, but fully understands that the amount of money thrown at Lewis will ultimately be the deciding factor.

The franchise isn't hampered so much by enticing Lewis to return because of contract negotiations with Scott as it does with re-signing center Jason Brown. Brown's contract, not Scott's, will play a major part in whether Lewis will hit the open market.

LOL

Whoops, I thought there was still hess family running the team, I must be getting alzheimers.

this reminds me of the scene in major league when the owner and the front office are discussing the players being invited to camp. The general manager says this guy here is dead! and the owner remarked, cross him off then!

God I love that movie.

stay tuned then.

fearing the unkown is part of the problem with this organization. Signing players in their mid 30s to big contracts is plain dumb.

its the complete opposite of what youre saying.

i feel to seee how this helps them retain ray. it was believed wide spread heading into free agency baltimore would not be able to retain all 3

That spot is the critical spot along with safety right now during the free agency period.

I dont see why they cant find a mid level free agent or a draft pick to play that spot.

I am still not convinced they wont make an 11th hour move and sign burnett or convince thomas to come back, although thomas is way too smart to come back here.

BURNING BRIDGES IN BALTIMORE?

Posted by Mike Florio on February 24, 2009, 9:01 p.m. EST
There’s an interesting item in the Baltimore Sun regarding the Ravens’ chances of re-signing linebacker Bart Scott.
Scott, as it turns out, could slide inside and replace Ray Lewis if the 13-year veteran vamooses.
And it’s looking more like “when” than “if” regarding the departure of Lewis. Per the Sun, Lewis “apparently irritated” owner Steve Bisciotti with remarks at the Pro Bowl suggesting that Lewis could play for the Jets or the Cowboys.
So while Bisciotti has said that the Ravens will outbid other teams for Lewis’ services, maybe Bisciotti is having a change of heart.
And maybe Lewis will indeed be playing elsewhere.

I dont wanna rely on brnett hes hurt too much,Zach thomas blows and is a midget.Ray is old but is a great LB still and controls the middle of the field like maybe only a handful can to this day.Free Safety is gonna be Henry u watch.

Bunting, at the NFP, questions if Lewis is still a 3 down player. He questions giving him a long-term deal, and says Lewis needs to be in a system that knows his limitations.

http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/2009/02/notes-from-lombardi-free-agent-linebackers/

Bunting thinks Bart Scott will get big money.

I say draft one or two ILBs. The Cowboys need safety help, not a $25 million dollar aging, baby sitter, imo. It's a desperate move, imo.
Those dollars could be used on other players.

If the owner is having signals sent out it's very possible they're posturing back at Ray and his agent. Ray having interest elsewhere raises his salary and them saying he'll be odd man out lowers it esp if there are genuine suitors out there.
