You never know from 1 year to the next.

That's why it was super important for us to take advantage of what we had this past Sunday.

Homefield against a banged up team that didn't match up very well with us. We blew it.

We don't play in the AFC East. We play in a division that is hard to be consistent in.

If we didn't make the playoffs next year I would not be shocked and it would really just be par for the course.

We just watched the 2 teams that played in the Superbowl a year ago not even make the playoffs... This league changes every year.

It's hard to say. If our D doesn't get noticeably improved, I can see it. It's a tough schedule, and I don't know if we can go another season with our offense being our defense.

People laughed at the one expert who picked the Dallas Stars to miss the playoffs entirely this season. And as of now, they have a good chance to do so. You never know what next year holds. They now will have a 1st place schedule. That's 1/8th of your season of 1st place teams instead of last like we had this year. We skated through the whole season with no huge injuries. Dez was out about a month but that's about it. The whole OL stayed healthy. Dak and Zeke.

Would you have laughed if someone said Carolina would not even make the playoffs this year? It happens. It's not far fetched.

A 13-3 season doesn't guarantee a successful 2017 season, refer to the 2014 and 2015 seasons. Go back to 07 and what happened to us in 08. Go back to 09 and look what happened to us in 2010. Usually when we enter seasons with high expectations the team disappoints. Look at Carolina and Denver, neither made the playoffs after reaching the SB last season. We first have to get over this loss and not have the disappointment carry over to next season. Then you have to worry about injuries, if Dak or Zeke goes down that changes everything because those two players are the main reason we had a great regular season this year.

You can never take anything for granted but good luck trying to convince FANS of that. Most already have their SB plans booked for next season. When you blow a great opportunity you may suffer a hangover the following season. You don't know from one year to the next how things will play out. We're going to have a very difficult time duplicating the regular season we had this season and I said the same thing after the 2014 season. Doesn't mean we can't but it won't be easy and unless we fix the defense, we'll end up getting knocked off again in the playoffs.

I'm in the camp that would say that I just don't see 8-8.
But you make a good argument.
Never say never, in other words

Dallas does face a more difficult scheduled on paper. The NFC East and AFC West were easily the best two divisions in football this season. Plus GB, Seattle and Atlanta. The Cowboys could be a better team and still miss the playoffs in 2017.

Homefield advantage and relative good health, the Cowboys had a tremendous opportunity this season and did not seize it. Hopefully they build on this season and continue ascending, but there are no guarantees.

A Jason Garrett led-team is not capable of making the playoffs 2 years in a row. We will be 9-7, and barely miss the postseason. The chances of that happening are greater than us making the playoffs

Garrett only makes the playoffs if the stars align. Which is hardly any injuries at all, an easier schedule and a QB/RB combination who have MVP caliber years. 2014 and 2016 are his only playoff appearances. Both seasons had the same recipe I described. Him and his staff are not going to help us out any. The players are going to be the ones carrying them. Him and Marinelli have no idea how to adjust during the games. We win in spite of Garrett, not because of him. This was evident last year when one player goes down and the entire franchise falls apart.

All I will say is I bet Carolina didn't think with that defense and Newton, coming off a SB appearance, that they'd do as poorly as they did in 2016.

I would bet on it being closer to 8-8 than 13-3 again. A lot of things have to go right to have another season like this. Tougher schedule, game film on our offense, defense still a question mark, coaching and injuries.

Yep.. I expect disappointment.

For a brief brief moment this past Sunday when they showed Emmitt getting the crowd into the game and just the energy coming from the fans at the stadium it was like we were back. That was so awesome. Then it vanished and our normal Dallas Cowboy reality came right back and the disappointment of the past 20 years extended for another season.

I will also say the writer's (and the fans' commenting below) don't really understand the cap and how it applies to the Cowboys.

Barring an injury or injuries to the star players, my wager is that Dallas is a contending team...young Offense that should improve and a Defense I think will be addressed for the better...reading all the naysayers here confuses me... Who cares about a schedule, you play the games....If you never know how Dallas will play, how do you how another team may end up...
