Realistic contract for Shultz

just like everything else, the salaries keep going up. right now the elite group like Kelce, Kittle, Andrews, all are in the 15M+ range. the next group below that are good, not elite gets somewhere in the 11-14M range. keep in mind just like Dak's contract, initially will be high, but as more contracts get redone, the numbers go up. the Cap is about to go up by 20-25% and as a result almost all salaries go up by about as much over the next several years.
Yep salary cap inflation , just like the real world.

Sure, but I'd like to know how many of those 90 catches McKeon couldn't make....nevermind at 1/20th of the cost. Maybe we could have added a better pass rusher or MLB for the difference.

Most of them are dump offs, not Schultz' unique ability to find his way open.

He also better hope DCs don't pay him more mind now that Cooper is gone.

My overall problem is that if you really want to fix your run game, Schultz ain't your guy, let alone at a premium price.

Wait....want to still be a passing team? Then find a way to keep Cooper.

Those two moves didn't work in conjunction for my taste, as it begs the question.....what exactly IS the plan?

Then it leads to that awkward moment in your head when you need to reconcile that there isn't one.
probably right now most of them. McKeon hasn't done anything to garner any accolades. just like Schultz 4 years ago. now after 4 years we know schultz...we have no idea if McKeon is any better than Jarwin.

and if Schultz is catching dump offs, then he is getting open or making contested catches. he is averaging over 10YPC.

we have to fix the run game and that comes from OC, LG positions being upgraded as the OL works as a unit as opposed to an individual winning his battle. one OL man failure and the whole thing fails. a TE is not going to fix the run game. a blocking TE is good luxuary for the running game

I need him to get better at run blocking or I don't want him at any salary. I'll give him and his five pounds the benefit of the doubt, and I'm certainly rooting for it to work out.

If they don't fix this run game with this QB, then this is a very moot discussion.

Schultz may be nice for fantasy points, but the Cowboys aren't going to check down their way to the Super Bowl.

As far as Schultz' ability to get open, be careful that it wasn't more about everyone else that needed attention, the best of which is no longer here.
the run game fix is not a blocking TE. we need to have OC, LG fixed. otherwise even the best blocking TE ain't going to fix the run game.

So if you agree that he is really only a pass catching TE -- then do you agree that he is really the 4th WR option?
They have 3 WR they want on the field or at least did last year -- Coop, CD, Gallup and this year CD, Gallup, Washington.

They usually use a back, Zeke, in to pick up blitz and release to flat.

Is there a better 4th WR out there if you see him as a WR? One with better moves and better RAC -- if he is just a pass catcher?

And what should a 4th WR be paid -- more or less than a #3 slot WR?
right now he is the 3rd recieving option......I doubt if Washington is a better reciever. he maybe faster, but less valuable.

But it's certainly part of things, and we are paying 11m to a guy who is a liability in that regard while being cheap elsewhere.

I don't want a block first TE. I want a guy who is catch first but isn't bad in the run game. He himself knows he was bad and is trying to do something about it. I'm rooting for him.

I believe he was 2nd on this team in reception with 78 catches and showed very good hands with few drops.

It’s going to come down to what his asking price is. If it’s team friendly it could happen. There’s still plenty of time we’ll just have to see what happens.
Team friendly can be about structure or dollars. He’s not taking substantially less money than he could get on the market but he could easily accept a structure that is friendly to the team
Just my opinion but few players take less money than the market bears

its part, not top priority...you fix the OL, the main part of the OL is to run block, pass block. if 2/5 of the line can't do that, then we are screwed. a TE can help in runs to the outside, but you don't solely run to the outside. and if guards and center were any good, they can pull and block on the outside too. having a good blocking TE is a plus to the OL, but is not the fix.

one thing about the kid. every year he has improved. so maybe this year he is working on his blocking technique and adding some size and strength.

He's good in that regard, but he does nothing exceptionally well. He doesn't deserve to be paid among the better paid TEs in the league, but I fully understand why they tagged him and am fine with it based on the reasoning that it's better than a long term deal for a little cheaper AAV.

I just want the run game to be better, and he isnt a good way to begin....so yeah I'm hoping for two new backs and a new TE for 2023.

I think we can win with Prescott if we have a solid running game, and very little shot by trying to feature him as a pure passer 40-50 times a game.

I'm pretty sure you agree there.

I wouldnt pay him top money either. Cowboys needs to figure out if they are a run first team or pass first team and build the offense accordingly. The TE position should be a reflection of that.

of course, but I am sure he wants a much larger contract than Cooper. and we have CD coming up and already paying Gallup. he would be a luxuary

Of course he’d be a HUGE luxury, and I hope they don’t do it, but doesn’t that sound Jerry-ish?

My wish is Jordan Davis at 24, followed by OL, DE, WR, LB, TE, RB, OL, WR, then a couple of FA’s.
