Really bad story on Gregory

Haley said that it's no longer just about getting Gregory on the right path, it's about getting him to want to be on that path.

"You know what, you messed up once, OK," Haley said. "You mess up twice, you know you've got a problem. When you do it three and four times, man, how can you help him? He's got to want it himself."

He was also critical of the way he claims Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and the team's front office is addressing the issue.

"Jerry and them baby him by putting somebody in that house with him," Haley said. "They never made him be responsible for himself. Maybe the best thing for him is to be free. Because you know what? At the end of the day, at the end of the year, you know Jerry and them ain't going to keep him around, so I don't understand."

"How do you throw that kind of money away? There's got to be some deep-rooted problem with the kid," Haley said.

Agree with every word.

This. Just shows how much the fanbase was invested in him, despite the clouded and veiled insults. All the responses are thinly veiled criticisms hidden behind great disappointment and expectations.

Everyone had hope for him and he let a lot of folks down -- on an antiquated, out-of-date marijuana policy. It is what it is, he should have known that good ol' boys run the league, and therefor abstained from the weed. He let weed, perhaps, ruin his promising career. Sad that some damn weed can do this to a player of his potential in the 21st century. Shades of 20th century prohibition and the WCTU.

And you folks that knee-jerk reply to me, read my post carefully so that I don't have to repeat the same thing over and over again.

My issue is he is unable to control his own actions. Does not matter if weed is legal or not fact is he has an addition problem. Alcohol may be legal but does not change the fact that those who are addicted face many problems because of the addition. Making something legal does not change the problem

Dude, read my damn post. I even bolded it, bro. Stahp.

They babied Dez and had a full-time "guardian" for him. It worked for him.

But I think the difference is that Dez truly loves football and wanted to be successful and accepted.

Gregory obviously doesn't. You have a guy offering to let you stay at his house (a HOF pass rusher, no less), and you still choose to smoke weed.

Mental issues or not, you only get so many chances.

even i had the outside hope that he was getting it together but this last suspension is the last straw. he wont play a down for us or anyone. only way i see is if somehow in the next couple years NFL makes smoking weed ok.

I did too. Even posted a thread looking forward to him returning, that very day that it was reported he had failed again for now a year suspension . I do feel for the guy but Cowboys must do what is best for the team not for any 1 individual. I would hope Jones would assist Gregory in getting the help he needs but at the end of the day it falls to Gregory to handle his problem.

Charles Haley isn't one to judge.

That guy is one of the sickest people that ever walked Valley Ranch. Those stories about Haley.........sheesh.
And he was later diagnosed with Bipolar disorder.

Yup. Gregory is just immature. He's done hope he can maintain a 9-5.. oh wait most of those jobs drug test now.. darn it
Haley was the guy whipping out his junk in people's faces and during meetings so... it's not about maturity, it's about the desire to play the game or not.

Gregory doesn't seem to want to play

Just one question. So your blaming weed and the rules?

Well the rules seem kind of silly considering some of the punishment handed out for beating women.
I think we all agree pot smoking is at least 100X more acceptable than beating women.

If Jerry wants to sign me for DE I will play for $100,000 and I don't need a babysitter.

Gregory's issues are with severe anxiety. Not sure what a bipolar nutcase like Haley can help him with. Haley is still off kilter.

This, Dooms. Well said, my man.

I get it. Where I'm going is that the post seems to rule out any personal responsibility. Seems is the key word. Not putting words in his mouth.
Do you blame the gun itself for someone being shot?
You blame the stop sign, the cop or the car for getting the ticket?
