Gregory's issues are with severe anxiety. Not sure what a bipolar nutcase like Haley can help him with. Haley is still off kilter.
If I'm not mistaken, Gregory is also bipolar so he could learn a lot from a man who has learned how to live with his demons, plays the same position, wore the same number for the same team. It's totally logical for Haley to want to help him. He probably sees himself in the troubled young man.

Which I said in my OP and further posts.
I did not read that in your original post (the way it was written). Seemed more at the fault of the NFL and weed itself however if not you intention, we agree then. Thanks

I really hope this wasn't directed at me, Syd. You're far too intelligent to post a knee-jerk reaction to the thought-out posts that I posted. I only say this, cuz some of these dudes don't seem to read my whole take, or process them as intended. But again, you have a great mind, so I hope I'm not lumped in your post.

There's been a very small minority that is outright excusing him. Most are admonishing him, dude.

It wasn't directed specifically at anyone. It was a general comment.

People are falling over themselves to excuse Gregory and try to shift blame to a faulty policy in the NFL or laws in this country.

It's simple. The NFL has a rule. Other players follow it, even those that still find ways to smoke pot. If Gregory can't follow a simple policy, if he's that addicted to pot that he can't figure out how to beat the system like hundreds of other players do, then the problem is all him. Not the Cowboys, not the NFL, not the league rules, not the NFLPA, not the CBA, not the laws in Texas, not the laws in most states.

It's Gregory. If the Cowboys want to work with him and try to help him, that's great. But at this point, if he did indeed fail another test, he should not be considered a member of this roster going forward.

Agreed wholeheartedly, Syd.

Sun, it's a little more nuanced than that at this time due to the fact the marijuana is still federally illegal, and your analogy involved a reversal in federal legislation (it's getting there, but not quite yet).

So right now, because the good ol' boys are in the pocket of Big Pharma and Big Alcohol, Gregory must abstain if he wants to play. In this day and age, everyone is being outed, they don't mess around. Gregory must realize that weed isn't worth his career if he wants to play. He has to pick one over the other, and sadly (for us Dallas fans), weed is just too important for him. It's looking bleak.

This discussion requires critical thinking and nuance, and a certain level of intelligence. Not knee-jerk drive-by postings.

But I agree with the essence of your post, Sun :)
understood, was really trying to break it down to the simplest of terms. I see pot being banned as the most arbitrary as a rule could be. It upsets me in Gregory's case because it's preventing this young man from realizing his potential. I get it, it's a rule and it's his fault he cannot abstain, however, with a flick of a switch, pot will be ok. Terrible substance today, medicinal one tomorrow.

What fight? Haley vs Gregory?

Randy White KO'd Haley at his (White's) restaurant, so Gregory might surprise you. Gregory is a quick-twitch beast. Would probably destroy an older Haley. To bad he loves the reefer inspite of himself. Sadly.
Randy White is like 3X bigger than Gregory.

Gregory is out of control and an idiot.
NFL policy does not reflect proper balance between smoking pot and beating women.
Policy not likely to change due to league being run by out of touch rich old guys
Gregory is still an idiot.
We need to bring in DE by FA and/or draft.

I get the weed rule is silly vs. other rules (like beating women) which should be severely punish IF found guilty. But that is a separate issue. You join the NFL (knowing the rules) and it's your responsibility to abide or then quit and find another job that lets you smoke week or whatever. I think were on the same page there and certainly the weed rule is nothing compared to women beating.

Randy White is like 3X bigger than Gregory.

White playing size 6'4 258

Haley playing size 6'6 255

Randy Gregory 6'6 240

If you want an argument for why Haley was flattened, size isn't your arguement, Haley was **** faced.

Gregory is quicker than both and would have both of their hands full in a fight during their primes. A sober Haley goes berserk and rips them both to shreds, imo.

LOL at all the excuse making for Gregory.

It's all pointless ramblings. You can't smoke weed in the NFL. That's the rule. If you cant abide by the rules the problem is YOU not the league or the rules or the laws in the country. There are probably hundreds of NFL players that do smoke weed but are smart enough to not get caught and can control their use of the weed. Gregory clearly can't.

So as it stands right now, Randy Gregory should be a non factor for this team going forward. You can't roster build with the expectation that he's eventually going to be there.

Frankly, I also wonder about his commitment to be a great player and be a good teammate when he can't put the pipe down long enough to pass a drug test.
Yep.

Very well said.

Management has a responsibility to it's players and fans to build the best team it can to win. To do that, they need players to contribute to that winning cause. Gregory has turned his back on his teammates, willingly or not. The team needs to move on.

If Jerry wants to pay for his continued treatments, fine. But as for being a player on the team, forget it.
