Ellis would be a nickel pass rusher and occasional standup linebacker. I swear, some of you believe he would be in there every down, standing up and in pass coverage on a consistent basis. How often did you see John Abraham or McGinest as a true linebacker?

How can you jump to conclusions when you haven't seen the role yet and ignore the cases where it actually has been done?

I did not say he would be an every down LB, but I think this is what concerns Ellis and I think that is why he is questioning his role with the team. You keep saying it is about Money Ellis says it is not so how do you know what Ellis is thinking?

What is the difference between money and commitment?

A few letters?

It is completely false to assume we first had the room to sign him in the first year of the cap and second, we had a running policy of not paying linebackers.

Exactly. First LB to ever get an even remotely lucrative contract from us was Coackley.

I can only go by what Ellis is saying, I'm not a mind reader so I'm not going to pretend to know what Ellis is exactly looking for on the other hand some around here read into these stories what they want to read into it. Ellis says one thing and fans or saying something else. For me the bottom line is this needs to be resolved before training camp. If that means trading him then do it if that means coming to some sort of agreement with him then fine but it needs to be resolved before they hit camp

What's it going to be then, eh?

What does Ellis' train of thought do with the supposition that you just talked about? All I can say is that I believe he either A) doesn't know enough about it or B) thinks Parcells is lying to him.

Coach Parcells has already stated he thinks Ellis could do very well in the role.

So is he lying to Ellis? Us? Himself?

That makes absolutely no logical sense.

Greg Ellis said:
"As long as they are committed to me, I will do whatever they want me to do," Ellis said. "If the level of commitment isn't there, how do you expect me to play the kind of roles you want me to play? My heart will not feel the same. It would be best for me to not be here."

"Linebacker is a huge risk," Ellis said. "I hadn't done it in the league. Last year was a risk. I never played [in the 3-4]. We know how that worked out. If this doesn't work out or I don't produce, they are not going to keep me around.

"I am taking all the risk. I would like them to share this risk with me."

"I hope it works out here," Ellis said. "Will it? I don't know. I am not trying to be a distraction. But it's hard to be committed to somebody if they are not committed to you. If we don't get anything done, it's probably best for me to be gone at their discretion, trade me or release me.

"It wouldn't be a good situation for either party."

C'mon Dooms - Benefit of the doubt is one thing - but if he's not talking about money, what does commitment mean? By all reports, he's looking for guaranteed money, not a diamond ring.

I think Blackistone is embellishing here as well. Norton was working off his rookie contract ($575,000) and got a huge contract from San Francisco. And it wasn't like Norton was our only free agent that year. We got killed and picked apart in free agency. It is completely false to assume we first had the room to sign him in the first year of the cap and second, we had a running policy of not paying linebackers.

Just another instance of this writer making up colorful stories because it is more inflammatory and plays to the angle he is attempting to push.

This is completely absurd. You would think that Ellis is being asked to stand in front of a firing squad for $5. He's being paid around $3 million to play football! The 3-4 DID NOT hurt his stats as this joke-of-an-author has erroneously reported. If anything, his decreased playing time will be EASIER on his body and prolong his career. "Committment"? What the hell did the Cowboys show when they signed him to a big contract a few years ago? If I'm not mistaken, this guy has never even posted double digit sacks. If he had a career anding injury after he signed that contract he still would have kept his fat bonus and nobody would be crying "Poor Jerry!". Owners take huge risks all the time and frequently get burned. I'm not saying we should cry for Jerry or Greg, but let's be realistic about this situation. Ellis is being paid very well for a role-player. He needs to quit whining, shut up, and play.

Sorry, looks like I'm agianst most here on this thread...Hard to keep up.

Okay, the Glenn asked for a raise, Ellis asked for guarentee salary. I personally think its foolish of Greg, if he were to get cut (which seems to be his fear) with the contract escalations we've seen this year...and probably next year too, he'll probably end up making more somewhere (with a 4-3 scheme) anyhow.

Both players said they would not hold out, but made their wants and needs public. That sounds the same to me.

Both players said they would not hold out. Greg has skipped non manditory workouts and practice sesssion, so he has not held out...So that seems the same.

The Cowboys actually gave in to Glenn's (is 1 or 2 n's...I get the two confused?) request, but not Greg's.

So those are the differences that I see.

Like to hear your thoughts on the differences ?

Blowing off the workouts, mandatory or not is IMO a major difference. And what came out from the Glenn camp in the press was pretty minimal compared to the newspaper and radio carpet bombing Ellis is doing, isn't that true? Glenn never hinted we might get less than his best effort if he wasn't given a raise. Glenn never said he would welcome a trade. And Glenn did have the 2nd highest YPC in the league last year and was well underpaid. Other than that I guess you're right they are the same.:laugh1:
