so your of the mindset that he is garretts babysitter?

if that is the case, who is babysitting the head coach? Is reeves doing that too?
Yeah, that's my opinion. It's been reported that the organization believes the offense suffered when Wade had to fully take over the defense. I don't think Wade needs anyone babysitting him.

Fair point, but I think the change from Jerry is coming in terms of thing likes the circus during practices. That's one thing that reeaallly irked me this season.

I hope Jerry plans on changing much more than that

but that and Reeves is a start

Jerry isn't a fool, he's a stubborn mule, but he's no fool, and he certainly must recognize that he's losing alot of money, and has been for quite some time now, 13 years to be exact

Thanks, precisely my point. I think he makes so much money elsewhere that he is willing to lose some from the Cowboys investment so he can stay in charge. He will never admit that is was Jimmy Johnson and a few players that were the reason for the superbowls.

why would that change? They just built the little area for jerry to entertain his corporate stooges. I cant imagine jerry changing at all personally.

If anything he will probably do more of his own thing. That is his m.o. when it goes bad, jerry makes irrational decisions and forces issues.

Wade phillips was walking around the practice field the week after the cincy game with his hat on backwards, his shorts pulled down and strolling like a pimp, the look on the players faces said it all.

the circus isnt going anywhere, they are just rearranging the lineup of the circus currently.

Hopefully reeves could clean some of this up, but if like you said he is here to babysit garrett, that will just add more to it. Nobody wants a consultant hanging over his head. Garrett would prefer to be fired I would imagine before having a babysit to run things by.

I don't have a problem with Jerry marketing the team. I just don't like it during practice.

And I certainly don't care if the head coach has a sense of humor, even if I find his humor stupid.

Jerry cares about the Dallas Cowboys, he also cares about his reputation

which is probably why he's getting Reeves to be his consultant/de facto/secret GM, so that he can still get the credit, I think Reeves just wants to get back into the game, no matter what role, and this is the highest-paying/profile one available

When it goes bad Jerry shows that he is willing to do whatver he thinks will help to make it better.

Hiring Parcells shows that.

The cessation of their contribution to the current media circus shows that

The potential hiring of Reeves shows that.

Lets get one thing clear. There is no love lost between Jones and Reeves. Reeves loathed Jerry when he canned Landry.

You sure put a lot of stock into crap like putting your hat on backwards.

putting you hat on backwards? What. I am one of the only romo supporters left.

I really dont know how to respond to you to be honest. You make little sense and you pull generic things out of thin air and apply them to people they dont go with.

I mean, I really dont know how to respond to you after reading most of your posts today.

like I said before, maybe as you said you are just smarter than everyone and I cant keep up.

do you know if Reeves still loathes Jerry? because Landry ended up forgiving Jerry for that, and Reeves is just as strong a Christian that Landry was (not trying to get religico, so cool it mods)

I never sadi I was smarting than you so please quit saying that.

you said:

So I responded with things Jerry has done when things are bad that are neither irrational nor forced.

So I said you put a lot of stock in that.

Does that help?

Hmm that would be a nice addition, however Jerry Jones doesn't understand real football operations so it probably won't work.

I have honestly do not know. I hope the press can take some time from their bashing and fearmongering to look into that. Thats a story.

I just know it was common knowledge that Reeves kept Elway in the preseason game because he didn't want to let the cowboys win after Landry being canned.

it's a reasonable hope for the National media

but :lmao2: forget about the Dallas media

I guess we can scrap the Shanahan talk then. No way he would come here if Reeves was here.

It also doesn’t mean that owner Jerry Jones will listen to anything that Reeves has to say,

I wish I had enough money to hire someone to give me advise that I would just ignore.

Whatever the role is, I think its a positive move.

It will be interesting to see what plays out with this though.

I agree. I'm not too keen on a 66-year-old who has been away from the game being a coordinator -- like the 49ers were seemingly interested in -- but I do think he can provide some tremendous and tutelage as a consultant.

But like you, my question concerns what his true role will be. How much clout will his opinions be given? If he wants T.O. gone, will it happen? Or will Jerry, as Florio suggests, just do as Reeves said when it mirrors his own beliefs?

Solid move, I just hope we give him the power to actually be influential on some level.

REEVES TO DALLAS LOOKS TO BE A DONE DEAL

Posted by Mike Florio on January 28, 2009, 5:45 p.m.

One of the great things about Radio Row is that the room attracts plenty of people who have access to plenty of NFL rumors.

And though this one isn’t much of a shock, we’ve heard enough to conclude that Dan Reeves will very soon be joining the Dallas Cowboys as a Bill Parcells or Floyd Reese-style consultant.

Chris Mortensen of ESPN first reported the possible move earlier this week.
It doesn’t mean that the Cowboys will fire coach Wade Phillips, especially since Phillips and Reeves have worked together extensively in the past.
It also doesn’t mean that owner Jerry Jones will listen to anything that Reeves has to say, if it conflicts in any way with that which Jones already wants to hear.
"Consultant" ? So another person throwing in his 2 cents... I dunno

IMO it could just mean another cook in an already crowded and messy kitchen. Might as well bring in Gordan Ramsey

Reeves won't stick around long if he doesn't have any influence.

I'll be interested to hear what his role is from Jerry. Right now everybody is just projecting his role to be whatever they think is wrong with this franchise.

Out of all the roles mentioned, the one I would be most skeptical of is him being some sort of disciplinarian consultant. You don't need a consultant to tell you how to discipline a football team - you just need someone with the stones to do it. And if a consultant is the one doing that...well that just would just be incredibly weird.

:)

But I don't think Jerry is going to bring in Reeves and then not listen to him.

Since the end of the season Jerry has looked like a guy who knows that he needs to do *something*, but doesn't know what to do.

Reeves will help Jerry with the what and the how.

That's a good thing.
