Reeves to Dallas appears to be a done deal

My favorite part of this thread is that Florio says he has just heard rumors because he's down in radio row at the Super Bowl and all the usual suspects who have it out for the media went in head over heels on talking about this as if the Cowboys have come to your house and told you personally that it's a done deal.

Why is that?

Because it's something you want to hear, lol.

And it's not everyone in this thread. Let me make sure I say that.

But you know who you are usual suspects.

According to Nate Newton & Bradie Tinker, Bruce Read couldn't beg enough guys to play STs in training camp.
Interesting. I read that Roy (SS) specifically asked to play ST. It was on special teams where he broke his arm...both times.

As for Reeves, like everyone else, I'm curious about his role.

Until the real problems on this team are addressed, I just can't get too excited.

Especially given the fact that Dan Reeves will be a "Consultant" and Jerry Jones is still the General Manager.

Now if he were coming in like Bill Parcells did, with authority and as Head Coach, then we would be talking.

Agreed.

Jerry's still in charge and Wade's still the HC. And, I doubt Jerry is bringing Reeves here to help consult on how to do his job. No doubt Jerry and Wade need all the help they can get, but I don't see what real authority Reeves will have.

But it will help Jerry with one goal, appeasing the fans making them think he's somehow addressing the problems when it's all just window dressing.

Doubtful. He's just a consultant.

I'm sure it's a dig at the power Jimmy and Parcells had. Of course, they weren't just consultants.

It's simple.

He has two roles.

He's the offensive 'mentor' people say Jason Garrett needs. He's going to help him with game planning like Sparano did.

He's also the backup plan at head coach.

If Reeves proves to Jerry that the game hasn't passed him by then he can insert him at head coach should Wade come out and go 0-3 and Garrett is still having trouble running the offense.

I'm surprised more people aren't looking at it from this angle. A few days ago, I was saying we needed some "old run coach" to come in and help Garrett, so this was my first thought as soon as I heard that we were interested in Reeves.

I could be totally wrong, but I don't think this will have anything to do with Owens.

I think you're definitely right. I see this as Wade can't oversee Garrett's every move when he's having to run the defense. So he brings in someone he's very close with that also has ties to the organization to help the golden boy along the learning curve.

I hope this isn't why Dan Reeves is being brought here.

I hope he is being brought here because Jerry Jones really wants the opinion of somone he respects regarding Free Agency, the Draft and how to field a "team".

If he is here to spy on and/or babysit Jason Garrett while Wade Phillips is running the defense, not only will I pass, but this will just add to the weird Circus-type Atmosphere.

I wonder if this is just another guy the players have to start choosing sides with? Wade Phillips is the Head Coach but most felt Jason Garrett was the Head Coach in Waiting but alot of his luster wore off this past season. Wade Phillips is heading into the last year of his contract, with no hint of an extension and now Dan Reeves arrives at Valley Ranch. Some player may think he could be the Head Coach in 2010 and this could undermine the authority of guys like Wade Phillips and Jason Garrett.

that's what a consultant usually does

unless he's coming here as an offensive consultant

we'll have to wait to see what his exact role is, but I think your idea is closer to the truth

the fact that it opposes theo's idea makes it that much sweeter

Right, because drafting talent and acquiring it through free agency has been the real problem with this team, not the underperformance of the offense.

we haven't won a playoff game in 13 years

I must say, ardent Jerry defenders (not you per se) are going to look pretty foolish when the direction of how Jerry runs this team continues to change

We haven't won one either. Maybe it's just me, but don't think bringing in talent is the biggest problem with this team.

Bill Parcells left the cupboard full with cornerstones such as Tony Romo and Demarcus Ware. Once you have pieces like that in place, it makes it eaiser to go from there.

Do you really want Jerry Jones in charge of Free Agency and the Draft from here on out?

Like Rick Gosselin stated, Jerry Jones is back to trying to collect the "22" best players and not field the best "team".

Again, hopefully Dan Reeves is here for his knowledge of Free Agency, the Draft and how to field a "team" and not "22" guys.

I dont' disagree, but our team's struggles have far more to do with talent

then again, maybe they don't (TO, Tank, PacMan, all talented, all dead-weight)
