My feeling is he will get a dose of reality and get shutdown against the boys.

Thoughts?

It's preseason and doesn't matter. If they shut him down or if he lights them up, it is not necessarily an indication of what's to come.

it does matter.i dont want anybody doing good against this defense preseason or not. We have to put in in everybodys minds that this defense is not playing games this year. National televised game domination sure wouldnt hurt. And maybe if newman gets a pick 6 he will get the same recognition he got as a rook.

McAllister is expected to start and play alot of the game to get him some real speed playing time that he has been mising since being injured last season. When Bush does come in it will probably be against our 2nd and 3rd string defenders so no biggie if he lights them up. That being said I hope he does get in a few snaps against the 1st team defense and Mr. Ware gives him a proper NFL welcome. :eek:hboy:

Bush's greatest asset is his speed. If he can turn the corner on the defense, he will enjoy some success. The defense can counter with speed outside the tackles also, so I don't think that he'll be able to bust a homerun on them. However, should he decide to run inside the tackles, I believe that he'll get stuffed by our linebackers.

Bush is nothing but a poor mans barry sanders, he relies purley on hisc utback ability and speed. If we just contain the backside, Bush will have zero success.

I would take a poor mans Barry Sanders....

Reflecting back on Barry's career in that situation...

He could bust a 20- or 30-yard run. He could even take it to the house. But if the defense contained him, and after he made 5 or 10 fakes and changes in direction, Sanders would sometimes get tackled way behind the LOS. The offense would then be faced with a punt situation on 4th-&-10 or 4th-&-15. Yet, the game announcers would praise how exciting his run and avoid discussing how he missed a golden opportunity to convert the down by simply running up the middle for a measly yard!

Just another reason why we were blessed to have a back like Smith. He would attempt to get what his offensive line made for him first and manufactured extra yards secondly. Both are Hall of Fame backs, but Smith was definitely the more practical one of the two.
