Cowboys (10-3) unlikely to move ahead of the Eagles (12-1).

Cowboys nearing a lock to make the playoffs.

  • Other wildcard teams:
    • NYG 7-5-1
    • Commodes 7-5-1
    • Seattle 7-6

NYG plays the Commodes which means only 1 can possibly win the next 4 games.
I’m not sure that’s good to know?

There have been so many seasons where a division front runner seems to have a lock on the #1 seed only to lose focus and the last game to an inferior team which resulted in losing the division championship.

In 1970 the Cowboys were in third place with five games remaining. They were two games behind the 1st place team and a game behind the 2nd place team.

Five weeks later they are the division champion.

The Cowboys can still win the division, but they must defeat the Eagles. If that is impossible, then why bother having playoffs at all.

This is wishful thinking. Other than us, they play the Bears who are terrible, the Giants again who they just embarrassed on the road and the Saints.

Of that group, only the Bears can pull an upset and that's only if Fields plays the game of his life. If he doesn't, they'll get blown out. Or maybe a blizzard will hit during the game.

Frankly, after yesterday, I am not sure we can even beat Philly in our own building. The defense looks stagnant, Parsons looks beat up, Prescott has been mediocre and the offense looks disjointed the last couple weeks other than that 4th Q against the Colts.

I really think Jax wins this week.

Troubling trend - down against Giants scrubs, Indy by 2 before they collapse and almost lost to a one win team at home. One and done.

We'll be the 5th seed on the road in SF.

No, we'd play the worst divisional winner in the first round - Tampa. If we finish as the 5th Seed, unless the 49ers fall apart, we likely wouldn't see them until the NFC Champ game.

Right now it's:

Philly - BYE
#2 Minnesota - #7 seed
#3 San Fran - #6 seed
#4 Tampa - #5 seed (Dallas)

There would have to be an upset for us to not end up in Philly in Rd 2. The #1 seed gets the lowest remaining team. So either San Fran or Minnesota would have to get upset for us to end up not in Philly.

Although with the way we are playing, we easily could lose a bunch here over the last few and find ourselves in that 6 spot which would likely mean we have to go to San Fran.

Ugh.....Eagles were playing some bad football around that time too. Could've and should've lost that Colts game. Screwing up against Rodgers hurts but I Think we all knew that at the time it would probably come back to bite us.

On another note....Pam Grier so damn fine.......sometimes I forget....

Yes, yes, yes and YES!

I found my special purpose in life watching her movies. If you've seen the movie "The Jerk" then you'll get that. Lol She even looked good when she came out on Fresh Prince for that one episode. By then she had to be on her 50's.

Why are some saying the last few games probably won't matter? I think we are a pretty good road team but would we rather play the Vikings or the 49ers at home if we have to play them in the playoffs?

I can see a possibility of a bunch of folks being rested if we have no chance of moving past the Eagles, which usually means we lay an egg on the playoffs.

We wouldn't face either if things shake out like we see now. We'd face Tampa in Rd 1 and then have to go to Philly in Rd 2.

Right now the Viking's are the number 2 seed and as such would play the worst Wild Card Team I think. God knows who that is going to be. Still a lot of football to be played. Jacksonville gonna be tough next week. They have a real offense and a hot QB.

None of the regular season matters. Unless the calendar reads JANUARY across the top these games are meaningless.
This mindset is terrible.

We literally agonize all offseason waiting for these games and now we are told the only games that matter are in January.

Nah...i enjoy every game/win.

We're tied with the Vikings for 2nd best record in the NFC but since we beat them we'd be #2, but because the #1 happens to be in our division we won't even get a home game in the playoffs. Sucks.
It happens every year. A better team has to travel the road for a playoff game. I really wish the NFL would just seed the top 7 teams, give #1 the bye and award better records with home games.

Every team has a bad game and that was their bad game. They struggled the following week against Indy, but have been lights out ever since. It wasn’t just the turnovers today that caused the Cowboys to struggle. After a great start their offense sputtered out. Our defense didn’t play that well and didn’t have a sack the entire game. This is starting to look very similar to the team we had last season at this time but Dak wasn’t turning the football over as much as he has been this season. There are some red flags with this team right now.
You’ve made my point about the Eagles. They are capable of having a bad game just like every other contender. If they do, it’s likely they lose. That gives the Cowboys a shot at the Division if that lone bad game isn’t against the Cowboys. The Cowboys need the Eagles to have that bad game and lose 1 of their other 3 games AND play flawless in the Christmas Eve rematch.

Dak is not playing well. He’s turning the ball over, but the most alarming thing is the tendency to do it late in the halves. It’s not all on Dak, but unfortunately he’s the one with the ball in his hand and is the one making the decision and throw. And he was horribly inaccurate yesterday.

But yesterday’s game turned on Turpin’s fumble. I was at the game and saw the body language of the Texans players after their 1st drive was completely stuffed. You do not give an inferior team any reason to have hope because there is not that as much difference between NFL teams as there is in college. We’ll never know, but I believe that would’ve been a comfortable win were it not for Turpin’s fumble.

Philly is capable of a bad game but the point is they’ve only had one bad game all season. Hard for any team to play 13 solid games. Even the 85 Bears had one bad game. The Turpin fumble definitely changed the game yesterday. I also think the Cowboys relaxed after they scored so easily on their first drive thinking the Texans were going to fold. The injuries we suffered yesterday aren’t going to help our chances. We’ve lost Terrence Steele for the season and Hankins has a strained peck muscle and could be out for a while. Hopefully we play a solid game next week against Jacksonville to get us prepared for Philly the following week.

The problem with seeding based purely on record is that teams/divisions don’t play the same schedule. An 11-6 record may actually be better than 12-5 or 13-4 if the 11 win team is in a strong division, that division plays another strong division, and the 11 win Division winner played a 1st place schedule versus what the 12 or 13 game winners do.

They played below their level in the Indy game with penalties and a critical turnover and should’ve lost that game. And would’ve were it not for Matt Ryan’s ineptness and lack of mobility. And Hurts’ legs. They ran that designed QB draw 4 or 5 times for critical converts, including twice on the game winning drive. Indy had zero clue how to defend or even considered defending it.

They play that same game against Chicago and they stand a good chance at losing because Fields ain’t no Ryan.

This week’s Jaguars game is going to be telling. I’ve had that one penciled in as the most likely to lose of the 3 games leading up to the rematch against the Eagles. And it’ll be an L if the Cowboys play like they did yesterday in which case it won’t matter what the Eagles do from here on out.
