we've got a TE we'll give them for a second round pick

I would trade Phillips for a second. You're obviously referring to Bennett. And you're so wrong. We need him for the 12 package which I think is about 50% of our snaps.

I'd be more inclined to keep Phillips and trade Bennett. People would pay more for Bennett's potential than his production so you'd likely end up reducing your risk as a franchise by unloading him on another team that won't mind taking a chance on him being a dud. Plus Phillips is cheaper.

Yeah but I think Bennett has more upside and potential than Fasano.... So in a way we kinda upgraded if Bennett eventually finds a way to become more mature instead of acting like a 5 year old trapped in a pro football player's body.

Potential is nothing. Performance is everything.

I agree through. Bennett does have more upside but it hasn't produced much. At least its a moral victory to think a guy can produce but hasn't.

Fasano and Ayodele turned into Scandrick and Choice. Who wouldn't like that trade?

That along with the trade down and back up for Spencer is one of Jerry's better trades in a long time.

According to Pro Football Focus, Fasano was the second-best run blocking tight end in the NFL this season, behind Witten. But Fasano had a negative rating as a receiver and as a pass blocker. (But in their convoluted system, he finished seventh overall, ahead of Gates, Shockey, Celek, Cooley, Heath Miller, Shiancoe and Winslow and waaaaaaaay ahead of Vernon Davis.)

Bennett for a Miami's 2nd rounder would be perfect.

Phillips is just as solid as Bennett.

Spare with all this potential crap. You always try to improve your team and a extra 2nd would help this team alot.

We run the 12 package to much to have a unknown/unproven #3 TE. We are rock solid at TE now and that is the way we need to keep it. I agree an extra 2nd rounder would be great to have. But not at the expense of losing Bennett.

I think that's comical. Phillips has shown he can step up. I've seen him be just as good as blocker and just as good as reciever as Bennett.

Bennett reminds me of some friends I played with in AAU. All the talent in the world, but are lazy and don't want to put the work in to get better.

Bennett and Phillips is a wash IMO and with a 2nd rounder, you could use that for ammo for moving up or grabing some O-line.

Some folks act like they've been super patient waiting for Marty to contribute and its time to move on. Of course we all want production NOW.

But I don't think its time to give up on Bennett. The light doesn't go on for all players at the same time. I have no problem giving Marty another year.

Dolphins want a tight end 2/3/2010 7:47:02 AM

Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports that NFL people who spoke with the Dolphins at the Senior Bowl said they made clear they want to add a tight end with speed and receiving skills to beat defenses downfield. The Dolphins might keep likely restricted free agent Anthony Fasano but remain noncommittal. Fasano played 78.5 percent of Miami's offensive snaps, Joey Haynos 51.2.

What some of us have been saying for years.

People ( some ) get stuck on the " starter " label and automatically believe that it equates to " good ". Fasano is nothing more than a nice #2 TE and his ceiling is nothing more than a #2 TE. Just because Tuna overdrafted him didn't mean he was anything more.

Change the name from Bennett to Miles Austin and this is the EXACT argument heard all off-season long about wether or not to keep him.

How glad is the Cowboys' nation today that the front office didn't listen to those request about Austin then ?

If the Jets had actually tendered Austin an offer for the 2nd rounder the last offseason I'm sure the Boys would have let him go.

They released one of the best receivers of all time because they had Austin on the roster. The chance that they would give up Austin last year for a 2nd rounder is about slim to none.

Fasano has done more than Phillips, who many are enamored with.
It's all about expectations. If Phillips were drafted in the 2nd round, he'd be labeled a bust by now.
